Plinth v0.2.0-alpha.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Jul 21:56

First public build of the catalog era. Everything below has, until now, only run on development machines — hence alpha. Expect rough edges, and please report anything that breaks.

What's in it

  • Disk-scale catalog — point Plinth at your library folders (local or NAS); browse by designer, release, group, and pose. Your curation survives every rescan.
  • Blender render engine — batch studio previews of your minis, rendered true-to-scale, straight onto the catalog cards. Plinth can fetch its own portable Blender on first run.
  • Reclaim disk space — merge byte-identical duplicates across variants with hardlinks (stored once, present everywhere), and pack rarely-touched models into compressed archives. Printing, previews, and rendering keep working on packed models.
  • The .3pk release format — creators pack models into a checksum-verified, deduplicated release; recipients import with one drag-and-drop and get the curation, not just the files. Opening a newer version of a release you already have offers only the components that changed, and your locally edited files are never overwritten. Your licence file rides along in every release.

Install

Downloads are below. Builds are unsigned, so Windows and macOS will warn on first run — this is expected for a free beta, not a sign anything is wrong. Step-by-step instructions per platform (including the exact clicks to get past SmartScreen and Gatekeeper) are in the installation guide.

Platform File
Windows Plinth_0.2.0-alpha.1_x64-setup.exe
macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel) Plinth_0.2.0-alpha.1_universal.dmg
Linux .AppImage, .deb, or .rpm

Known limitations

  • This is an alpha — the catalog, render, packing, and .3pk features are lightly tested outside dev machines.
  • Windows ships the NSIS .exe installer only (the .msi can't encode a pre-release version; it may return for stable releases).
  • Updates are manual: download and run the newer installer over the old one. Your catalog and settings are preserved.
