Highlights

Reliable uploads of huge exports. Tens of thousands of files and many gigabytes now go up in small batches, one after the other, instead of one giant request.

  • The chat itself is uploaded and read first. An export you already imported is recognized before any media is sent, and an invalid folder or a disk without enough space is reported up front.
  • A batch that breaks off is retried. One that keeps failing is split until the file that causes it is found: a media file is skipped and named, a broken chat file stops the import with its name.
  • Upload errors name the file and the cause, including how many bytes the server received.

Media library for big chats. Sort by most, least, recently or earliest used. Hide items used fewer than 2–25 times. A new Described tab. Describe with AI works through the shown items top to bottom, with progress, rate and time left, and can be stopped at any time and continued later.

Improvements

  • Offline mode: the Offline badge no longer pushes Settings out of the sidebar header.
  • Settings: values from .env are listed, with which ones are in use or overridden. Test shows a clear result card: connected or not, why, endpoint, model and time.
  • LLM input: shows the prompt size and the history budget, and links to it in Settings. The history is limited by characters, not messages.
  • Photos and videos with a caption span the whole bubble, Telegram-style. Narrow ones are centered.
  • The home and tutorial drawings no longer pop up a tooltip on hover.
  • Docs: a new home page, and guides for large exports and the media library.

API

New owner endpoints: POST /api/uploads, POST /api/uploads/{id}/files, POST /api/uploads/{id}/check, POST /api/uploads/{id}/import, DELETE /api/uploads/{id}. POST /api/exports (one request) still works. See HTTP API.

Install

Desktop: brew install --cask irooftop/tap/irooftop, or the installers below. Server: brew install irooftop/tap/rooftop, cargo install rooftop, or docker pull ghcr.io/irooftop/rooftop:0.5.0.

Share links now work beyond your own computer, without a server of your own.

What's new

  • Wi‑Fi and local network. In the Share dialog, turn on Wi‑Fi and phones on the same network open your links at http://<your computer>:8737/s/<name>. Only the visitor pages are served there. Your settings, chats and API stay on 127.0.0.1.
  • Internet at <name>.iroof.top. Turn on Internet and pick a name: links work anywhere while the app runs. The app keeps one outgoing connection to iroof.top, so nothing on your computer listens on the internet. Your exports, model key and the AI stay on your computer, but visitors' messages pass through iroof.top.
  • QR codes. Every link has a QR button, with a code for each address that works (Internet, Wi‑Fi, this computer).
  • Telegram in Settings. Off, Shared bot or Own bot:
    • Shared bot: no setup. Press Add to a group and pick the group in Telegram. A one-time code links that group to your app only.
    • Own bot: paste a token from @Botfather. Messages then go straight between your app and Telegram.
    • Visitor messages arrive in the group with Reply and AI reply buttons, as before.
  • Run your own relay. A server can host the relay for its own domain (ROOFTOP_RELAY_DOMAIN, with an optional shared bot via ROOFTOP_RELAY_BOT_TOKEN). See Run a relay hub.
  • The desktop app opens links to other sites (such as t.me) in your browser.

First release of iRoof.top: export a Telegram or WhatsApp chat, and an LLM continues it in the style of one participant. Share the conversation by link, and answer visitors yourself from a Telegram group or let the AI answer.
