Question
I’m purchasing a workstation through my institution to use Isaac Lab/Sim for training reinforcement learning policies for legged robot locomotion.
I’d like help comparing GPU performance for this use case.
I originally posted this question on the Isaac Sim forum, and a moderator recommended I submit it here.
The Isaac Sim v4.5.0 benchmarks include the RTX 3070, 4080, and 6000 Ada, but I’m considering GPUs like the RTX 5080/5090, A6000, 6000 Ada, and 6000 Blackwell. I’m also unsure which performance metrics best reflect RL training speed. I initially thought “Physics steps per second” would be a good indicator, but the values are quite similar across different GPUs in your benchmarks.
I noticed the GitHub repo lists the 4080 as minimum, 5080 recommended, and 6000 Blackwell as best.
That said, are there any recent or internal benchmarks comparing these GPUs specifically for RL training (e.g., physics simulation performance)?
Thanks!
