Manual DDNS
Location: Connection → Dynamic DNS
If your ISP doesn't give you a static IP, Dynamic DNS keeps a domain name (e.g. myhome.dynu.com) pointed at your current address automatically, so you can reach your router (or something behind it, like an OpenVPN or WireGuard server) by name instead of tracking down whatever IP you've been assigned today.
Click Add DDNS Service and fill in:
- Service Provider — chosen from a built-in list of supported providers. If a provider needs an extra package that isn't installed, you'll see "You need to install an additional package to use this provider!"
- Provider-specific fields appear once you pick a provider — typically some combination of Domain Name, User Name, Password, E-mail, Key, API Key, Token, Host, or Test Domain, depending on what that specific service requires.
- Check Interval (minutes) — how often the router checks whether your current IP still matches what's on file, without contacting the DDNS provider itself (so this can be frequent — a network check, not an update). 10–20 minutes is a reasonable default.
- Force Update Interval (days) — how often the router connects to the provider and updates the record even if nothing changed, since some providers close accounts that never update. 3–7 days is the suggested range — providers may ban you for updating too often, and may close your account if you go over a month without any update at all.
- IP Source — normally "Internet" (your actual public IP), but can instead be pinned to a specific WAN or LAN interface's address if you're doing something more advanced.
Each configured service shows in a table with its domain, provider, and last-update time, plus a Force Update button per row. If you've edited a service but haven't saved yet, Force Update will ask you to save first.
Once you have a domain configured here, it becomes selectable as a "Client Connects To" option in both the OpenVPN and WireGuard allowed-clients modals — so a road-warrior or site-to-site peer can find your router by its DDNS name instead of you hardcoding a raw IP that might change.
