Release list
Minerva 0.9.0
MapleCompass is now Minerva, and its Search finds maps and items as well as mobs, showing the way to any map you pick.
Minerva isn't made, endorsed or supported by NEXON. Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk.
Changes
- MapleCompass is now Minerva. It has a new name, and an owl for its icon in the notification area, on the panel's bar and on the collapsed panel. The site has moved to itechify.github.io/minerva. Minerva installs as a new app, so read Coming from MapleCompass below before you install it.
- Search: mobs, maps and items. Ctrl+Shift+F, or the magnifier at the top of the panel, opens Search. Type part of a name and the mobs, maps and items that have it show in a section each, with their pictures. Names that start with what you typed come first. A mob lists the maps it spawns on, as before. A map becomes your Destination. An item opens its Item Card beside the panel, with no need to have it in hand. Esc and the back arrow now go back one step: from a mob's maps to what you typed, then to the panel. More on the site
- Destinations. Pick a map in Search and Navigation shows the way there: the map with its Map Mark, its street, how far it is and the route, worked out again as you move, until You're here. You have either a Destination or a Hunting Target, whichever you picked last. More on the site
- Market Lines on the Item Card. You can keep more than one price for each item. Click the + by Market and name the line (Typical, say, or Lowest ask): every card lists it from then on, with its own price for each item. Click a line's name to rename it, or to remove it with the bin. Before removing a line, the card asks, saying how many items' prices go with it. The prices you kept in 0.8.0 are on your first line, Your price. More on the site
- The Item Card heads with the item's picture beside its name.
- Fixed: the Grind Tracker could say "You switched character" when you hadn't, after misreading a still EXP bar the same way a few times in a row. A bar it can't read for sure is now skipped, never read as a wrong number.
Coming from MapleCompass? Minerva installs beside MapleCompass, not over it, and keeps its settings in a new folder. To keep your settings, hotkeys, Personal Bests and market prices, do this before you install Minerva:
- Quit MapleCompass (its compass in the notification area: Quit MapleCompass).
- Type
%APPDATA%in File Explorer's address bar, make a folder namedcom.itechify.minerva, and copy everything incom.itechify.maplecompassinto it. (If you've already started Minerva, quit it first, then copy them over its files.) - Install and start Minerva, then uninstall MapleCompass in Settings › Apps.
Minerva fetches its map and item data again by itself. From now on, later versions of Minerva install over this one, keeping everything.

MapleCompass 0.8.0
See what an item is worth from its tooltip, tell every map apart by its Map Mark, and look back over each map's visits.
MapleCompass isn't made, endorsed or supported by NEXON. Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk.
Changes
- The Item Card. Hover an item until its tooltip shows and press Ctrl+Shift+I: a card opens at the pointer with what the tooltip doesn't say. More on the site
- Shop pays: what an NPC shop pays for one.
- Market: the price you keep for the item. Click it, type it as players write it (450,000, 450k or 1.2m) and press Enter. The button beside it opens MesoWatch to see what players pay.
- Click the item's name to open its MeowDB page. Drag the card by its bar to move it; its × or Ctrl+Shift+I again closes it.
- Item Lookup is now Ctrl+Shift+U. It works as before, opening the hovered item's MeowDB page. The key you pressed for it (Ctrl+Shift+I, or your own) now opens the Item Card. If another of your hotkeys already uses Ctrl+Shift+U, Item Lookup starts turned off: give it a key with Change hotkeys in Help & Setup. More on the site
- Map Marks. Each map's name has its Map Mark beside it, the emblem the minimap shows for its area: Henesys's shield, Kerning City's stone, Sleepywood's skull. Smaller ones mark a Hidden Portal's destination, your route, the maps a mob spawns on and your Personal Bests. More on the site
- Personal Bests in a window over the game. The Grind Tracker's star opens your Personal Bests over the game instead of in your browser. A map's visit count ("3 visits") lists its 10 best visits. To remove one that came from a misreading, click its ×, then Remove? to confirm. More on the site
- Every mob on the map. The Mobs section lists them all, by level, with no "+N more" line. Collapse the section to put a long list away. More on the site
- Bug Reports. Something wrong? Choose Bug Report in the menu of MapleCompass's compass in the notification area. It saves what MapleCompass read and made of it, and opens a form to report the bug on GitHub. More on the site
- The MapleCompass site, itechify.github.io/maplecompass, explains each feature and how to use it, and says what to do when something doesn't work. About & Credits in Help & Setup links to it.
- Fixed: one misread of the EXP bar near the end of a level could count as a level-up, shooting the rate up, or say "You switched character" when you hadn't.
Your settings, hotkeys and Personal Bests carry over from 0.7.0. The Item Card fetches two more files from OSMS Data Explorer, about 1.2 MB together, and keeps them for offline use.

MapleCompass 0.7.0
See every portal on the map you're on, follow your route to a Hunting Target portal by portal, and search the whole world from the first launch.
MapleCompass isn't made, endorsed or supported by NEXON. Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk.
Changes
-
A picture of the whole map. The Hidden Portals section is now Map, with a picture of the map you're on and every portal ringed where it is:
- blue to another map;
- green, with a dashed arrow to where it lands, for a teleport within the map;
- grey to a map MapleCompass doesn't know.
Hidden Portals and Quest Portals are dashed. Rest the pointer on a ring to see where it leads, or on a Hidden Portal's row to light its ring. This replaces the rough positions like "far right, lower".
-
Navigation. Your Hunting Target has its own section, between Map and Mobs, while you have one: the mob, moving, beside its name, then the route and "You're here" when you arrive. On the map, the next portal on your route wears a magenta ring. It collapses like the other sections, and stays collapsed if you leave it so.
-
The whole world from the first launch. Map and mob data now come from OSMS Data Explorer: the whole game in one small download. Mob search and Distance know every map at once, so "Mapping the world" is gone.
- It works offline after the first launch, and refreshes once a day.
- The data follows the game as it is now, so Orbis, El Nath and Forgotten Hollow aren't in it while they're closed.
-
Mob Cards at once, and moving. A listed mob's card is ready as soon as the map shows, with the mob animated. The line about how it moves is gone.
-
A tidier panel.
- The credit is now a small info icon at the bottom; rest the pointer on it to read it.
- "Not sure" says why when you rest the pointer on it, instead of a note under the title.
- The Map section disappears when it has nothing to show.
-
About & Credits in Help & Setup credits the data, the recognition model and the typeface.
-
Fixed: the panel could flicker after you resized it narrow.
-
Links still open NiaMeowDB's pages: a mob's name, the map's title (Ctrl+Shift+M) and Item Lookup.
MapleCompass's source is now public on GitHub. Your settings, hotkeys and Personal Bests carry over from 0.6.0. The first launch downloads the map data, under 1 MB, so it needs a connection once.

MapleCompass 0.6.0
Change any hotkey from the panel, or turn it off, and see your Personal Best on every map side by side.
Personal use only. MapleCompass reads map and item data live from NiaMeowDB (meowdb.com) under a personal-use arrangement; it must not be shared publicly until MeowDB gives written permission (ADR 0003, ADR 0007). Mob pictures come from maplestory.io, a fan site serving Nexon's own art, under the same terms (ADR 0006). Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk.
Changes
- Change your hotkeys. The new gear at the top of the panel opens Settings: every hotkey with its keys. Click Change and press the new keys; they work at once and are saved, no restart. Ctrl+Shift with a key is safest, since MapleStory attacks with Ctrl and jumps with Alt. If the keys belong to another MapleCompass hotkey, Swap trades the two. Restore defaults puts them all back, and Undo brings yours back. A hotkey Windows or another app has is marked Taken in its row. From the keyboard, Change hotkeys in Help & Setup's guide opens Settings too.
- Turn a hotkey off. While a hotkey waits for its keys, Turn off (or Backspace) stops it taking those keys from the game at all. Its button at the top of the panel still works. Item Lookup has no button, so it can't be used while it's off.
- Your Personal Bests, side by side. The ★ on the Grind Tracker's bar (or its Best) opens a page in your browser with every map's best EXP per hour, highest first: each with its mob levels and how close it came to the map's solo EXP/h on MeowDB, so you can see where you levelled fastest. The ★ shows once some map has a best.
- Help & Setup and the placement names (Docked Right, Docked Left) are written as names now.
Your settings, hotkeys and Personal Bests carry over from 0.5.0.

MapleCompass 0.5.0
The Grind Tracker remembers your best EXP per hour on every map and stars the moment you beat it, Ctrl+Shift+I opens the MeowDB page of the item under your pointer, and MapleCompass's windows now stay on top of the game and out of the way of everything else.
Changes
- Your best on every map. Hunt 5 minutes on a map with mobs and the Grind Tracker remembers your best EXP per hour there. When you come back, a Best row under Last 5 min shows it, and a ★ lights up beside Last 5 min while you're beating it. A best that came from a misread or a stretch you can't repeat? The × on the Best row removes it from that map's history, and your next-best visit takes over. Each map keeps its 10 best visits, across all your characters, in
personal-bests.jsonbeside your settings. - Item Lookup (Ctrl+Shift+I). Hover an item so its tooltip shows (inventory, equipment, shops, storage) and press Ctrl+Shift+I: its MeowDB page opens in your browser. An alert at the top of the game window says what came of it, and when several items share the name it lists them for you to pick.
- Always on top, only with the game. The panel, the Grind Tracker and the Item Lookup alert now sit on top of everything while MapleStory (or one of MapleCompass's windows) is in front, and hide when you switch to another app, a detached panel on another monitor included. Opening a MeowDB page in your browser hides them until you come back to the game.
- The Grind Tracker shows the EXP bar it reads, as the game's own gauge at its foot, so you can see it working. If something covers the bar, it says so (instead of claiming you're on a break) and holds your figures, and EXP gained while it couldn't see doesn't land as one big burst.
- Resetting the Session can be undone. The reset button moved beside Time to Level, away from the window's ×, and Undo brings the old Session back until your next EXP gain.
- Clearer figures. Rates are written out in full ("61,200 EXP/h"), the Session row says how long it has run, "% of this map's solo EXP/h" counts only your play on the map you're on (it starts over on every map now, even beside one with the same figure), the waiting note just says "Waiting for EXP", and warming up has no tag.
- The Grind Tracker stays put beside the panel as it grows and shrinks from map to map.
Your Personal Bests start empty: your first 5 minutes on each map record its first best, and the Best row shows it from your next visit there.

MapleCompass 0.4.0
The Grind Tracker gets a window of its own and stops starting over by itself, "Mapping the world" no longer slows the app, and every window speaks in MapleStory's own typeface.
Personal use only. MapleCompass reads map data live from NiaMeowDB (meowdb.com) under a personal-use arrangement; it must not be shared publicly until MeowDB gives written permission (ADR 0003). Mob pictures come from maplestory.io, a fan site serving Nexon's own art, under the same terms (ADR 0006). Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk.
Changes
- The Grind Tracker has its own window. It opens just below the panel once you track your EXP, and you can drag it anywhere, even outside the game window; it keeps that spot relative to the game. It shows Time to Level, your EXP per hour over the last 5 minutes and the whole Session, and deaths. Its circular arrow resets the Session and its × closes it; the Session carries on while it's closed. A new button on the panel (or Ctrl+Shift+G) shows it again, and closed stays closed until you do.
- No more "warming up" out of nowhere. A single misread of the EXP bar early in a level could make the Grind Tracker think you'd switched character minutes later, and wipe your Session. It now recognises that it's still your level and carries on. When you really do switch character, it starts afresh and says so. Once warmed up, a Session no longer warms up again after a break.
- Ctrl+Shift+R no longer resets the Session. Ctrl attacks in MapleStory, so Shift+R mid-fight could clear it without asking. Reset from the Grind Tracker's window instead.
- "Mapping the world" no longer makes the app lag. MapleCompass now remembers the world it has mapped, so search, Distance and routes know every map from the moment it starts. Maps over a week old are refreshed quietly in the background, one every 30 seconds. While maps it has never seen are being fetched, a gauge like the game's own fills as they come in.
- Click the map's title to open its MeowDB page (as Ctrl+Shift+M does). The toolbar's MeowDB button is gone; the title still drags the panel once you move the mouse.
- Hidden Portals and Mobs fold away. Click either heading to collapse that section to its heading, which then says how many it holds. Your choice holds from map to map and the next time you start MapleCompass.
- MapleStory's own typeface. Every window is set in NEXON's Maplestory font, and the overlay's text is drawn as heavy and clear as the game's Quest Helper beside it.
- Mob Cards for mobs whose MeowDB page has no Other Attributes (Pig, Ribbon Pig) no longer say the page has changed.
The first time 0.4.0 starts, it builds its map of the world from the pages earlier versions saved, so the panel may say "Mapping the world: 0 of 422" for a minute; after that it starts knowing every map.

MapleCompass 0.3.0
Mob Cards, a map list and route you can read at a glance, and a panel that stays with the game.
Changes
- Mob Cards. Rest the pointer on a mob's name in the panel and its card appears: its picture, its level and how it moves, a tag for each element it is weak to, resists or is immune to, and its Touch damage, MP, ACC, AVOID, defences and HP per EXP. Click the name to open the mob's MeowDB page. Cards are ready the moment you look: MapleCompass fetches the listed mobs' pages when you arrive on a map, politely and once.
- A map list you can read. After picking a mob, each map shows its full name with its distance beside it, and its street, density, share and tier beneath, in a box that stays readable over any scene. Before, long names were cut to "Tree Dungeon, For…" and several looked the same.
- The route as a minimap path. The way to your Hunting Target is drawn as a line from your yellow dot, through a blue ring for each portal, to the red mob dot, with a tag where it takes a taxi, ship or Teleport Scroll. Streets show only where they change. On arrival it says You're here, with how far you came.
- The panel stays with the game. Wherever it is placed, inside, docked or detached, the panel sits just above the game window: an app you bring in front of the game covers it, and clicking the game never hides it. A detached panel now disappears while the game is minimised, like the others.
- Resizing sticks. Dragging a side or bottom corner to resize the panel no longer snaps back, and the panel no longer shrinks a little at a time. With a lot above it, the route keeps a few stops instead of shrinking to a sliver.
- Clearer wording in setup.

MapleCompass 0.2.1
A small update to MapleCompass 0.2.0: a way to quit, and only one MapleCompass at a time.
Personal use only. MapleCompass reads map data live from NiaMeowDB (meowdb.com) under a personal-use arrangement; it must not be shared publicly until MeowDB gives written permission (ADR 0003). Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk.
Changes
- Tray icon. While MapleCompass runs, the gold compass sits in the notification area. Click it for Help & setup or Quit MapleCompass: the one way to quit, whether or not the game is open. Before, it could only be stopped from Task Manager. Settings not yet saved are saved before it quits.
- One at a time. Starting MapleCompass while it already runs no longer opens a second copy: the running one shows itself instead, with its panel expanded, or setup when there is no game window to show the panel on.

MapleCompass 0.2.0
The first packaged build of MapleCompass, a helper overlay for MapleStory Classic World. It reads the minimap title by ordinary screen capture, shows which map you are on, and never touches the game's memory, files or input (ADR 0001).
Personal use only. MapleCompass reads map data live from NiaMeowDB (meowdb.com) under a personal-use arrangement; it must not be shared publicly until MeowDB gives written permission (ADR 0003). Using any third-party tool with MapleStory is at your own risk; the first run explains how MapleCompass keeps that risk low.

maplecompass-0.2.0-portable.exe |
No install: run it from any folder. Needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime, which Windows 11 already has. |
The files aren't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may say it "protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
Run the game windowed or borderless, with the minimap open. On first run, setup walks you through finding the game window and marking the minimap title.
What's in it
- The map you're on, recognised from the minimap title, with its Hidden Portals first: where each leads and where it is, drawn on a tiny minimap.
- Hunting: the Map Summary (EXP and mobs per hour, solo and 6+ party) and the five most common mobs.
- Mob search: find a mob, see the maps it spawns on ranked by density and distance, and get the route there as your Hunting Target.
- EXP tracking (optional): Time to Level and your EXP rates, from the in-game EXP bar.
- Honest when unsure: maps that share a title, unreadable numerals and offline MeowDB data are shown as such, never guessed.
- Looks like the game's own windows: a Mini Map–style bar with blue buttons, the map title on the Mini Map's sky blue, and a see-through body like the Quest Helper.
- Placement: inside the game window, docked to either side or detached; drag it by its header, resize it by a bottom corner, or collapse it to the compass icon.
- Hotkeys (while the game or MapleCompass is in front): Ctrl+Shift+C collapse, P placement, M MeowDB page, S setup, N next map with the same title, F search, R reset EXP tracking.
Changes in this version
- New look across the overlay, setup and title-marking windows, built from the game's Mini Map and Quest Helper.
- Hidden Portals come first, each with a mini minimap of where it is; the mob list shows the top five with a summary of the rest.
- The panel can be resized by either bottom corner (never narrower than 320 px), and keeps its width.
- The panel's default spot is a third of the way down the game window, and it grows downward instead of re-centring.
- Hotkey warnings say whether a key is taken by another app or isn't a key combination.
- EXP tracking no longer mistakes a level-up barely into the new level for a death.
