TextWren 2.1.0

TinyAI is now TextWren, with a new origami wren icon. Updating keeps your settings, API keys and downloaded models.

What's changed

  • New name and icon. TextWren has an origami wren in the Dock and a matching wren in the menu bar.
  • Talk with fn⌃. Voice shortcuts can be modifiers alone. New installs dictate with fn⌃: hold fn and Control to talk. Your current shortcut is kept.
  • Faster default for GPT-6 Luna. Low is now the default reasoning level. Actions where you chose a level keep it.
  • On-device text model. Qwen3.5 4B runs locally with llama.cpp for translation, grammar or any action, with no API key needed.
  • Models in one place. Settings → API lists API providers, on-device text models and on-device voice models, and lets you download or delete them.
  • Voice setup. A new install with no OpenAI key and no local model offers to download Nemotron for local dictation.
  • Polish.
    • The divider between the result panels is easier to drag and no longer jumps.
    • The toolbar uses the standard macOS style.
    • The Accessibility and Microphone status now turns green when they work.
    • Replace in the popup puts the result back in place of your selection again.
  • Open source. TextWren is MIT licensed.

Updating from TinyAI

  1. Download TextWren.zip, open it and move TextWren.app to Applications.
  2. Quit and delete the old TinyAI.app.
  3. If the shortcuts do not work, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Device Control and Data Access (called Accessibility on older macOS versions). Remove the TinyAI entry, add /Applications/TextWren.app with +, enable it, and relaunch TextWren.

Install

  1. Download TextWren.zip and open it.
  2. Move TextWren.app to Applications.
  3. The app is ad hoc signed and not notarized. If macOS blocks the first launch, Control-click TextWren.app and choose Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

For setup and usage details, see the README.

TinyAI v2.0.1

This release improves permission setup and changes the default voice dictation shortcut.

What's new

  • Direct permission settings: Settings → Hotkeys now has a separate Open Settings button for Accessibility and Input Monitoring. Each opens its own Privacy & Security section, and TinyAI refreshes the displayed status when you return.
  • Dictation shortcut: New configurations use ⌃V (Control+V) by default. Existing saved shortcuts remain as set; change yours in Settings → Voice if needed.

Requirements

  • macOS 14.6 or later on Apple silicon or Intel Macs.
  • An OpenAI or Google Gemini API key for text actions. Voice dictation can use a local model or OpenAI.

Install

  1. Download TinyAI.zip and open it. This build is unsigned.
  2. Move TinyAI.app to Applications.
  3. If macOS blocks the first launch, Control-click TinyAI.app and choose Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

For setup and usage details, see the README.

v2.0

@itoropitsin itoropitsin released this 27 Sep 12:14

TinyAI v2.0

TinyAI 2.0 adds voice dictation and introduces remote agents and live conversation as optional beta features. It also improves rich-text handling, clipboard behavior, and the menu bar voice experience.

What's new

  • Voice dictation: Hold or tap a shortcut to dictate into the active app. Choose local speech recognition models powered by transcribe.cpp, or OpenAI transcription. Local audio stays on the Mac.
  • Live transcription feedback: A menu bar popup shows recording status, microphone level, recognized text, and errors. The menu keeps the five most recent transcripts for quick copying.
  • Remote agents (Beta): Connect voice shortcuts to HTTP APIs or MCP servers, and display, paste, copy, or speak their responses. MCP connections support browser-based sign-in.
  • Live conversation (Beta): Start a full-duplex voice conversation with GPT-Live-1. It can use configured MCP tools and agents on the Mac.
  • Richer text handling: Improved preservation of lists, links, emphasis, and code through translation and custom actions, with fixes for clipboard and formatting edge cases.
  • Safer beta controls: Agents and live conversation stay hidden until enabled from Help → Agents and live conversation (Beta).

Requirements

  • macOS 14.6 or later on Apple silicon or Intel Macs.
  • An OpenAI or Google Gemini API key for text actions. OpenAI voice services use the OpenAI key; local speech models can be downloaded separately in Settings → Voice.
  • Allow Microphone, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring access when prompted for the features that need them.

Install

  1. Download TinyAI.zip and open it. This build is unsigned.
  2. Move TinyAI.app to Applications.
  3. On first launch, macOS may show an unidentified developer warning. Control-click TinyAI.app and choose Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

For setup and usage details, see the README.
