The false "missing" is fixed. When Contract Review cannot find a clause, it now goes back and checks every document individually before saying so, and a clause that was there all along comes back as Found, with its citation.

Absence verification in Contract Review

• The root cause, fixed in the engine: in a matter with many documents, the most relevant passages matter-wide can crowd out the one document that actually contains a clause. Retrieval can now be hard-scoped to a single document.
• After the checklist pass, every "Not located" row is automatically re-checked against each document in the matter, one at a time. You watch it happen: "Verifying absences in each document (2 of 5)".
• A clause that was wrongly flagged flips to Found with a mechanically verified page citation. A true absence earns a claim the checklist could never make before: "Not located in 5 documents (every document checked individually)."
• Cancelling during verification keeps the finished review. Nothing you waited for is thrown away.

Compare Documents gets the same honesty

• Every negative cell in the comparison grid is re-checked scoped to its own document and upgraded live in the grid.
• The CSV export now carries a "Check scope" column, so a matter-wide check and a per-document check never read the same.

Reviewing one document now means one document

• A single-document review scopes the search itself to that document, not just the labeling afterward. Its "Not located" rows are now per-document claims by construction.
• Reviewing a document that has no readable content fails with a clear message instead of producing a review that looked finished but checked nothing.

Honest to the last label

• Word, Markdown, copy, and on-screen caveats all name the per-document verification when it ran, and say "this document's passages" when you reviewed one document.
• The engine gate held exactly: 63/63 grounded answers, 9/9 correct refusals, 0 rejected claims, byte-identical for every unscoped call.

Scanned documents just work

• The OCR engine now ships inside the app. Scanned PDFs, the bulk of a litigation file, become searchable with zero installs. No Homebrew, no Terminal, ever.
• The release gate now uploads a real scanned page to every build and requires it to come out searchable, so this can never silently break.

Watched folders follow your scanner

• A watched folder now picks up files in its immediate subfolders, so a scanner writing dated folders (Scans/2026-07-12/) lands automatically. Deeper nesting is deliberately not walked, and the panel says exactly that.
• The same filename arriving in two different subfolders stays two documents.

Honest labels in Contract Review

• "Potentially missing" is gone. A clause the checklist could not find now reads "Not located in the passages checked", in the app and in every export, because that is precisely what happened: the most relevant passages were checked and it was not found there. It is not a legal conclusion.
• The badge no longer shouts warning-amber for what is only a maybe. Word reports carry the same honest language.
• The real fix, per-document verification that checks every document individually before calling anything not located, ships next in 0.6.0.

Your Mac is told the truth up front

• docuchat runs its AI entirely on your Mac, and that needs 16 GB of memory. On a smaller Mac the app now explains this in one screen and stops, instead of downloading 10.5 GB and grinding the machine to a halt. Nothing is installed or changed on a refused machine.
• The website now states the requirement next to the download button.

Contract review, reworked

• Results appear as they are found. The checklist renders instantly and rows fill in live, first findings in seconds. No more minutes of blank waiting.
• Reviews are saved. Close the app, come back tomorrow, and the review is still there, with an honest note if documents changed since it ran.
• Cancel works, and clicking Run twice never runs it twice.
• Export what you found: copy with citations, download as Markdown, or download a Word red-flag report. Every export lists each clause's verification status and the scope of the check.
• Review one document or the whole matter, tell it what kind of document it is (it never guesses), and add your own questions to the checklist.
• Compare Documents got faster: the same question is now asked once, not once per document.

Email that tells the truth

• Gmail import no longer stops at your oldest 500 messages. Each pass picks up where the last left off, so a label of any size fully imports.
• Attachments are now searchable. A PDF attached to an email becomes its own document, linked to the message it arrived on.
• Imported documents show where they came from, right on the row.
• Everything imports into Unfiled first. If you picked a matter for a connection, each row gets a one-click "File to" button. You always confirm the filing.

Watched folders you can trust

• Click "Choose a folder" and pick it in the normal Mac dialog. No more typing paths.
• Each folder row shows it is alive: "watching, checked 12s ago, 3 files added".
• A corrected re-scan of the same filename now lands instead of being silently skipped.

Every mention

• "Find in documents" is now "Every mention," at the top of the Document Hub: every place a name or term appears, with a true count, no AI involved.
• /find in chat now opens it directly, and every cited answer links to it.
• Matching now tolerates curly quotes, hyphen line-breaks, and HTML entities, so a passage the answer cites always counts.

What's new in 0.4.2

Updates now restart the app for you. After installing an update the app closes itself and relaunches on the new version. No more waiting on "Restarting". If anything ever prevents the automatic relaunch, the app now tells you plainly to quit and reopen.

Slash commands. Type "/" in the chat box to see quick commands: /deadlines, /overview, /compare, /review, /find, /summarize, and /copy. Commands jump to existing features or fill in a question for you. Nothing is ever sent until you press Ask.

What's new in 0.4.1

Connectors now actually connect. A packaging defect meant the connector adapters were missing from the shipped app, so the catalog showed services you could not connect to. Fixed. All 28 self-serve connectors (Gmail, Zoom, Fireflies, Notion, Nextcloud, and more) accept your API key, import your documents into Unfiled with source details, and let you drag them onto matters. Our release process now refuses to ship a build that cannot prove its connectors work.

Deadlines reach your calendar. Every deadline you confirm gets an "Add to calendar" button that downloads a calendar event with your confirmed date and the source quote in the notes. The Deadlines panel also carries a permanent reminder to verify against the source: it is not a complete docket.

Copy answers with citations. Every answer now has a Copy button that gives you clean plain text with numbered citations (file, page, and the quoted passage).

Chat history fixed. A conversation no longer splits into a separate history row for every message you send.

Polish. The sample matter's suggested questions wait until it finishes preparing instead of erroring; Settings tells you if the app could not exclude its data folder from Time Machine; matter overviews now distinguish "no facts found" from "documents could not be processed."

What's new in 0.4.0

Your matter, at a glance. Opening a matter now shows an instant overview built from your documents: deadlines, a timeline, parties, and amounts. Every row quotes the exact source language and clicks through to the highlighted page. Nothing is generated on the fly; facts are extracted once at import and each one is mechanically verified against the document text before it can appear.

Deadlines you confirm, never dates we compute. Deadline language is surfaced with its source quote. Explicit dates can be confirmed as written; relative deadlines ("within 30 days after service") show the language and wait for the date you calculate. docuchat never does deadline math for you.

Under the hood. Fact extraction runs in the background and never delays your documents becoming searchable. The answer engine is unchanged and passed the full 72-question citation gate with zero fabricated claims before this release.

Fixed: profile photo and document uploads

Uploading a profile photo or a document failed with "The string did not match
the expected pattern." The app's web view rejects a raw file as an upload body;
the app now sends the file's bytes, which works. Photo and document uploads work
again.

New: the app self-heals instead of getting stuck

If the Mac's Keychain key ever changes (after Migration Assistant, an OS
reinstall, or moving to a new Mac), the local data could no longer be unlocked
and the app would fail to start. It now detects this, sets the unreadable data
aside safely, and starts fresh, so a Keychain change can never lock you out.
Your existing data is never deleted.

Fixed: Gmail import now verifies the server certificate

The Gmail connector opened its IMAP connection without validating the server's
TLS certificate. The connection was encrypted, but on a hostile network an
attacker impersonating imap.gmail.com could have captured the Google app
password and read imported mail. The connection now verifies the certificate
and hostname before any credential is sent. No other connector was affected.

Also hardened

• Nextcloud connections are forced to HTTPS so the app password can never be
  sent over plain http.
• Imported-file names are fully sanitized before touching disk.

One-click updates

prompt is cached ahead of your first question, removing the after-idle stall
before answers start.

Document Hub

Drop a whole folder (or click "Upload an entire folder…") and everything
inside files itself into the matter. Supported types now shown accurately.

Reliability fix (important)

Fixed a bug where a failed Keychain read could silently replace the app's
master encryption key, permanently orphaning encrypted data. The app now
refuses to proceed on ambiguous Keychain failures and never overwrites an
existing key. If you use encrypted storage, update.

Honesty pass on the integration catalog

Every listed integration was re-verified against the vendor's current API.
Services that cannot actually deliver your documents were removed instead of
being listed as "coming"; services that need a registered app (Google,
Microsoft, Clio, Read AI) are labeled exactly that.
