MacOS14 Sonoma Support

MacOS Sonoma brought substantial changes to the "long-press-green-button" menu, which required retooling the UI logic. As a result, as of v1.8.0 SplitView now requires MacOS14.1 or later.

For use with earlier versions of MacOS, download and use the v1.7.0 spoon.

New hs.spaces support

The original undocumented spaces modules has been retired, and in its place a new WIP module, hs.spaces has been released. The two are similar, but not compatible. From this version forward, SplitView will work with the new hs.spaces. All other functionally is unchanged.

Note that this version is required to support MacOS versions prior to v14.1 (Sonoma).

Updated, faster version for new HS

Hammerspoon moved hs.axuielement into the core and made many changes to the interface. This new version of SplitView works with the latest Hammerspoon version (v0.9.79 or later required, as is MacOS10.15 or later). It also optimizes a number of the UI element interactions to make the split view even faster. The hold hs._asm.axuielement spoon is no longer required and can be removed.

v1.5.1: Works with Catalina

A small patch to handle the new drop-menu on long zoom button press that Catalina exhibits. Works by searching through the menu for the Tile Left item. By default the selected window when the split view hotkey is invoked is now always tiled on the left.

An all-new SplitView

Major changes in how SplitView functions:

• No more hiding apps, moving windows, or sending them to other spaces: Uses new accessibility-based methods to avoid moving spaces or hiding any apps. Instead it works just like you do: long clicks the green button, finds the target mini-window, and clicks on it. Very large window count and small target windows may slow it down as it has to adaptively tile the screen to search for new windows.
• Works left or right: No windows are moved, so it works for either left side or right side initial window split-view.
• No new Spaces: No longer necessary
• Secondary Screens: Better operation on secondary screen displays
• Fewer delays: Far fewer hard-coded time delays, using accessibility objects where possible to wait until the correct elements appear/disappear.

removeDesktop working

Improvement to removeDesktop to work for multiple screens and when spaces are re-ordered.
