ChemDraft

ChemDraft is an open-source, local-file-first chemical drawing application for macOS and Windows.

Six rendered molecular structures A structure grid rendered with ChemDraft.

Version 1.0.0 is available for macOS and 64-bit Windows. It is for students, researchers, and anyone who needs editable chemical structures, reaction schemes, figures, or machine-readable chemical files without sending a drawing to a web service.

Highlights

  • Draw molecules, rings, labels, stereochemical bonds, charges, mechanism arrows, and text on a paged document. Several documents can remain open as tabs in one window.
  • Keep chemical information editable. Copy structures as SMILES, InChI, MOL, CDXML, SVG, or PNG; save native documents and work with supported interchange formats.
  • Inspect a selected molecule with calculated properties and named interpretations. Results carry method and status information; a result that cannot be honestly computed is declined rather than guessed.
  • Add optional tools through permission-declared plugins, including NMR prediction, naming, and experimental structure recognition.
  • Automate local work through the chemdraft command-line interface, the chemdraft-mcp local MCP server, and the bundled agent skill.
