FAQ
This page answers common, repository-confirmed questions about ChemDraft 1.0.0.
Yes. The stable 1.0.0 release ships for macOS and 64-bit Windows from the same version. The Windows installer is per-user and currently unsigned, so SmartScreen may warn before the first installation. See Installation.
No account is required for ordinary local documents. Optional engine installation and update checks are separate, explicit workflows. The local CLI, MCP server, and agent skill run from a source checkout rather than the downloaded desktop application.
ChemDraft’s native editable document extension is .chemdraft. On Windows that is the only extension registered by the installer. CDXML support is covered separately because compatibility is feature- and fixture-driven, not a blanket promise. See File Formats and Compatibility.
Yes. Documents open as tabs in one document window. Each tab retains its own selection, history, file state, warnings, and viewport. The tab strip has a + button for a new document. See Documents, Pages, and Tabs.
It must not silently change represented chemistry. A conversion that cannot preserve identity warns or fails. Analysis can use a clearly named derived interpretation, but it does not pretend that form is what you drew. See Chemistry Guarantees.
No. The optional NMR predictor produces estimates from an OCL-native HOSE-fragment lookup over NMRShiftDB2 experimental assignments. Proton multiplicities and J values are first-order estimates. Unmatched environments produce warnings rather than invented shifts. See NMR Prediction.
No. The optional MolScribe OCSR workflow is experimental, local, and proposal-only. It carries warnings and requires review before a recognized structure is inserted. See Structure Recognition.
A plugin receives only permissions it declares. Direct insertions are limited to a plugin command and become a labelled undo entry; recognition output is proposal reviewed. See Plugin Permissions and Plugins Overview.
Yes. ChemDraft provides a local chemdraft CLI, chemdraft-mcp MCP server, and agent skill. Their results are machine-readable and use shared document logic. See Agent Tools Overview.
