Release list
Mailcal 1.0.0
First full release of Mailcal: a mailbox.org calendar for the Light Phone III, black and white like LightOS.
Mailbox calendar (CalDAV)
- Signs in to mailbox.org directly (an app password if you use two-factor sign-in). No DAVx5 and no phone calendar: mailbox.org stays the only real copy, with an offline copy on the phone for reading.
- Agenda list and month view, with start and end times.
- Add, edit and delete events; repeating events ask "this one" or "all". Edits keep everything else in the event (attendees, etc.).
- Reminders (at the time of the event up to 2 weeks before) saved in the event, with phone notifications, including reminders set in mailbox.org's web calendar.
- Show or hide calendars, and pick where new events go.
Feeds (from SubcalScriber)
- Subscribed .ics / webcal calendars, read-only, added by typing or pasting a link (Google share links work for public calendars).
- Switch with the MAILBOX · FEEDS tabs, or tap the selected day again in month view.
Everything is a tap: no swipe gestures. PREV/NEXT change months, LIST/MONTH switch views.
Refreshes when you open the app and in the background about every 30 minutes (feeds hourly).
Permissions: internet; notifications, exact alarms and start at boot for reminders.
Install: adb install -r mailcal-1.0.0.apk (updates any beta in place; you stay signed in).
Mailcal 1.0.0 beta 4.1.0
No more swiping. Everything is a tap:
- MAILBOX · FEEDS tabs switch source; in month view, tapping the selected day again also switches.
- PREV / NEXT change months.
- LIST / MONTH switch views.
Sideways swipes are ignored everywhere, so they don't open an event by accident. Scrolling up and down is unchanged.
No new permissions. Install: adb install -r mailcal-1.0.0-beta.4.1.0.apk (updates in place; you stay signed in and keep your feeds).
Going back to beta 3 still works as described in the beta 4 notes (uninstall first; code on the pre-feeds branch).
Mailcal 1.0.0 beta 4
Fourth beta: SubcalScriber's subscribed feeds, built into Mailcal.
New: feeds
- A MAILBOX · FEEDS switch under the top bar. Switch by tapping it, swiping sideways on the agenda, or (in month view) tapping the selected day again. Swiping on the month grid still changes months.
- Feeds are read-only .ics / webcal calendars. Add them from MENU → FEEDS by typing or pasting a link; Google share links work for public calendars, and a feed names itself from the calendar.
- Tap a feed to rename it, hide it from the agenda, refresh it or remove it.
- Feeds refresh hourly: when the app opens and in the background.
- List and month views work for both.
Changed
- Update errors show as a short "Couldn't update" next to the tabs (tap for details), so the screen doesn't shift.
No new permissions. Install: adb install -r mailcal-1.0.0-beta.4.apk (updates in place; you stay signed in).
Going back to beta 3: Android won't install an older version over a newer one, so uninstall Mailcal first (this signs you out and removes added feeds; nothing on mailbox.org changes), then install mailcal-1.0.0-beta.3.apk from the beta 3 release. Beta 3's code is kept on the pre-feeds branch.
Mailcal 1.0.0 beta 3
Third beta.
New: month view
- Tap MONTH next to TODAY for a month grid; LIST goes back. The app remembers which view you used last.
- Each day gets a dot per event (up to three); events spanning several days show on each day.
- Tap a day to list its events under the grid. Swipe or use PREV/NEXT to change months.
- NEW starts the event on the selected day.
No new permissions. Install: adb install -r mailcal-1.0.0-beta.3.apk (updates in place; you stay signed in).
Mailcal 1.0.0 beta 2
Second beta.
New
- Reminders: pick one when adding or editing an event (at the time of the event, 30 min, 1 hour, 12 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week or 2 weeks before). Saved in the event on mailbox.org, and the phone shows a notification with the default sound when it's due, including reminders set in mailbox.org's web calendar.
- Background refresh about every 30 minutes when online, so events added elsewhere arrive without opening the app. Only calendars that changed are downloaded.
- The agenda shows end times.
- Menus no longer bring the keyboard back up.
Permissions added: notifications (asked the first time you pick a reminder), exact alarms and start at boot, for reminders.
Install: adb install -r mailcal-1.0.0-beta.2.apk (updates the first beta in place; you stay signed in).
