TidyTV 0.9.0: Apps tile, editable home screen, Block ads fix

Fixes Block ads and the remote helper turn-on, which could hang, and adds an Apps tile to turn off or uninstall any app.

• Apps tile: tap an app to turn it off or uninstall it for this TV, with a backup first and the right warning
• The Apple-style home screen lets you move, remove and add apps from the TV remote
• Touch and hold an app to see its package ID; the similar-model note names the list's model
• A simpler first screen: saved TVs show if they are on, and Connect sits right under them

TidyTV 0.8.1: fixes the crash on launch

Fixes the app closing right after it opens on some phones (0.8.0 crashed on launch). Everything else is the same as 0.8.0.

Fixes the new home screen not sticking on TCL Google TVs, and keeps the remote's voice and shortcut buttons working.

TidyTV 0.7.0: on Google Play, 252 TVs, a simpler design

What's new

• On Google Play. Play now keeps TidyTV up to date. Copies installed from this page still get a small update notice.
• 252 TV models, up from 232, with safety fixes from real TVs: the Sankey SMART2KTVSE keeps its Live TV service (without it every input shows "No Signal").
• A simpler, calmer design. Cards, chips and drawn icons instead of long text; details sit behind a small (i).
• Show more apps. If the list for your TV finds only a few apps, you can look at ones seen on other TVs. They're all off until you pick them.
• TCL "Smart TV" sets get the right TCL list (fixed in 0.6.1).
• The Apple TV style home screen is updated to 2.7 (fixes an Android 8.0 crash, and TCL key helpers survive a restart).
• Honest about what can't be done: TVs whose home screen TidyTV hasn't tested get a short note instead of nothing, and the TiVo Stream 4K (whose firmware blocks turning apps off) isn't offered a clean-up.

TidyTV 0.6.1: the right list for TCL Smart TVs

Fixed

• TCL TVs that call themselves "Smart TV" got the wrong list. In 0.6.0 a TCL Google TV that reports its model as just "Smart TV" (many do) could be matched to an Amazon Fire TV list, and Tidy up then offered only Print services. Generic names like "Smart TV" or "Android TV" no longer count as a match. When there's no list for your exact model, TidyTV now picks the same-brand list that best fits the apps actually on your TV. On a TCL G06 that means the TCL G07 list, with about 20 apps to choose from.

Smaller

• The download is about 20 MB, down from 26 MB: it no longer carries libraries that only emulators use.

TidyTV 0.6.0: 232 TVs, looks and your own photo

What's new

• 232 TVs, up from 93. TidyTV now has tested clean-up lists for 232 models from 68 brands, from cleanyourtv. Every list goes through TidyTV's safety rules before you see it.
• Pick a look. The Apple TV style home screen now comes in four looks: Classic, Aurora, Glass and Scenes (14 painted landscapes, a new one every hour). Or use your own photo: pick one on your phone and TidyTV crops it to fit the TV and shrinks it before sending, usually to a few hundred KB.
• TV on Ethernet? (#1) Setup now explains that on many TVs Wireless debugging stays greyed out until the TV's Wi-Fi is on. Turn Wi-Fi on, join the same network as your phone, and turn on Wireless debugging. You can switch Wi-Fi off again afterwards.
• Wireless debugging pairing is more reliable on newer phones. The download is bigger (26 MB) because TidyTV now carries its own copy of the secure-connection library this needs.

Safer

• Lists fixed upstream now keep apps that turned out to matter:
  • NVIDIA SHIELD keeps the recommendations service, which the SHIELD TV phone remote needs.
  • The onn 4K box keeps ambient mode, so Google Photos screensavers keep working.
  • The Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd gen keeps the parts its remote's mic needs.
  • The Xiaomi TV A Pro keeps Chromecast built-in, which Stremio plays through.
• More apps are never turned off: Android's core modules (a TV once failed to boot without them), its content providers, the phone service and CVTE boards' own launcher.
• The Apple TV style home screen is updated to 2.6. It uses about half the memory and returns to Home instantly. TidyTV now writes its settings in a way Android 14 TVs can read.
• Check my TV now counts apps the same way as the rest of the app.

TidyTV 0.5.0: My TV, remote, send files, Check my TV

This release includes everything planned for 0.4.0. TidyTV is no longer only a one-time clean-up: once you connect, it opens My TV, a home for everything it can do with your TV.

What's new

• My TV. After you connect, pick what to do: Tidy up, Remote, Send files, Home screen, Check my TV or Restore. TVs you've used before show on the first screen and reconnect in one tap.
• Remote. Use your phone as the TV remote: D-pad, OK, Back, Home, volume, power, play/pause, and typing into the TV's search boxes. Apps lists what's on the TV and opens any of them. It works on Fire TV too.
• Send files. Pick photos, videos or any file on your phone and send them to the TV. They land in the TV's Downloads folder, in a folder called TidyTV. Big videos stream without filling your phone's memory, and TidyTV checks there's room first.
• Check my TV. TV updates sometimes switch apps back on. Check my TV compares the TV with what TidyTV turned off and lists what came back. Turn these off again fixes it, after a fresh backup as always. Restart the TV and check reboots the TV and makes sure everything stays off.
• TV stuck after a change? Find this under your saved TVs on the first screen. TidyTV keeps trying to reach the TV for up to 10 minutes, and as soon as it answers, it turns everything it changed back on.
• Projectivy Launcher is now a home-screen choice. TidyTV opens its page in the Play Store on your TV; press Install with the remote and TidyTV does the rest. Restore puts your old home screen back and leaves Projectivy installed.

The remote, file transfer and checks only talk to your TV over your home network. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

What's new

• Turn one app back on by itself (#2). Turned off Netflix by mistake? The Done screen now lists every app TidyTV turned off, each with its own Turn on. It's also there after Restore a TV, so you can come back any time. Restore everything still works as before.
• Wi-Fi or Ethernet (#1). Setup now explains that the TV's Wireless debugging only appears when the TV is on Wi-Fi, while Network debugging works on Ethernet. Your phone just needs to be on the same home network.
• Update notice. Once a day TidyTV asks GitHub whether a newer version is out and shows a small banner when there is one. Nothing about you or your TV is sent.
