BC2VR 0.1.12 — Knife and opening text hotfix

Choose a tag to compare

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 20 Oct 22:42

BC2VR 0.1.12 — singleplayer pre-alpha

This update combines knife corrections, opening story-text display and crouch
controls with the 0.1.11 launcher cache fix.

  • Opening encounter: an actual-game check using emulated controller input
    delivered a blade jab and then showed Reach Trenches in the Objectives
    screen during the same encounter, without a restart. This verifies progression
    for that tested path; physical-headset knife handling remains unaccepted.
  • Opening story text: all three cards were reviewed in captured actual-game
    pixels. Their physical-headset presentation remains unverified.
  • Controls: click and release the left thumbstick to toggle crouch. Hold Y
    (the left secondary button) to sprint. Hold both stick clicks for one second
    to recenter; that chord preserves the chosen crouch posture.
  • Installer fix retained: a dedicated launcher folder inside the game
    installation can use its managed cache. Installing directly into the game
    root or stock Dist/Package folders remains unsupported.

Both complete normal builds passed 294/294 automated suites on x86 and x64.
Package validation passed 12 checks; fresh-install, update, settings preservation
and rollback validation passed 18 checks using the actual installer and updater.

Close BC2 and use Check for updates → Install update, or run the new Setup
and select the existing launcher folder containing active.json. The update
preserves settings and retains 0.1.11 for rollback when updating from 0.1.11. There is no
need to reinstall the game. The changed preparation recipe may require a new
local asset cache on the next launch.

This remains an experimental pre-alpha. Physical-headset acceptance and a
complete campaign are unverified. Death/reload crashes have no accepted fix.
Multiplayer is unsupported, and the existing weapon, reload, scope, reconnect
and extended-play limitations remain.

BC2VR 0.1.11 — launcher cache-folder hotfix

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 20 Oct 16:08

BC2VR 0.1.11 — launcher cache-folder hotfix

This update fixes asset preparation failing with “Generated assets must not be written into the game installation” when a dedicated BC2VR-Launcher folder is inside the game installation. Generated files stay in that launcher's managed cache. The game root itself and stock Dist/Package folders remain unsupported launcher destinations.

The native binaries and gameplay payload remain exactly those of 0.1.10. Only the launcher cache-path fix and required package metadata change. All 21 focused cache-path checks and 16 fresh-install, update and rollback checks passed.

Close BC2 and use Check for updates → Install update, or download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.11.zip, run Install.cmd, and choose the existing launcher folder containing active.json. Keep Include pre-alpha hotfixes enabled. Settings and one previous package are retained for rollback. A new local asset cache may be prepared on the next launch. No game reinstall is needed.

Knife interaction has failed current headset testing. Opening-guard/campaign progression and death/reload recovery have not passed acceptance; reported crashes remain unresolved. This release contains no new gameplay fix or headset-acceptance claim.

BC2VR 0.1.10 — Menu startup hotfix

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 20 Oct 12:37

Fixes two startup problems reported on 0.1.9:

  • Missing menu pointer: the laser and controller clicks no longer depend on a 16:9 desktop game resolution. Menu pointing uses BC2's own coordinate conversion.
  • VR closing at the main menu: startup now recognizes a healthy menu connection instead of waiting for gameplay input that does not exist until a level loads.
  • Retry guidance: if BC2 remains open after stopping VR, select Restart BC2 before launch, or close the game normally and launch again. Reinstalling the mod is unnecessary.

Existing users: close BC2, then use Check for updates → Install update with Include pre-alpha hotfixes enabled. New users: download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.10.zip, extract it and run Install.cmd.

The previous knife and install-drive fixes remain included. This is still an experimental singleplayer pre-alpha: death/reload crashes and full-campaign acceptance remain unresolved. Actual EA/VirtualDesktopXR headset acceptance still needs tester confirmation. Use Report feedback → Save diagnostics if a launch fails.

Validation: both full builds passed 293/293 suites; a 45-second actual-game menu check and fresh-install/update/rollback checks passed. Source checkpoint.

BC2VR 0.1.9 — Opening knife hotfix (pre-alpha)

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 19 Oct 16:57

BC2VR 0.1.9 — physical knife hit hotfix

The opening knife can now reach the game's native target acquisition and damage path. This is a pre-alpha gameplay fix, not a claim that the campaign is playable end to end.

  • Fixed two checks that rejected valid physical knife stabs in the opening mission.
  • In a bounded opening-mission test, an emulated tracked-controller stroke acquired a target and produced a native damage callback with a health decrease. A later stroke completed a miss and rearmed. The game then displayed “Two down. About a thousand to go.”
  • Includes the 0.1.8 install-drive audio-cache and startup-error fixes. Settings, prepared assets and the previous installed version remain available when updating.

Known limits: human headset handling has not been retested for this fix. Death/reload crashes remain unresolved; full-campaign progression, all weapons and long-session stability are unverified.

Close BC2, enable Include pre-alpha hotfixes, then use Check for updates → Install update. For a new install or recovery, download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.9.zip, extract it, keep the inner runtime ZIP intact, and run Install.cmd. For an existing install, choose the launcher folder containing active.json.

Both architectures passed 293 C++ suites. The installer reuses the validated launcher/dependency files and exact tested runtime package. No game assets are distributed. Feedback remains local until you choose to share it.

BC2VR 0.1.8 - Install-drive startup hotfix

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 19 Oct 15:18

BC2VR 0.1.8 — install-drive startup hotfix

Campaign still blocked. This update fixes a confirmed VR startup problem. It does not fix the opening knife or the unresolved death/reload crashes, and is not ready for a campaign playthrough.

  • Fixed native audio-cache validation rejecting installations outside the developer's G: drive. This caused the supplied EA tester's X: installation to exit VR with code 20. Valid absolute local install paths are now accepted; audio-content validation remains enabled.
  • The launcher and saved feedback now include the underlying native startup error when available. Reported nonzero native exit codes remain failures even when the game has already closed.
  • Existing folder selection, package repair, settings preservation and rollback remain available.

Close BC2, then use Check for updates → Install update with Include pre-alpha hotfixes enabled. For a fresh install or recovery, download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.8.zip, extract it, keep the inner runtime ZIP intact, and run Install.cmd. To repair an existing installation, choose its launcher folder containing active.json.

Validated with 293 tests on each architecture, 135 affected launcher/setup checks, and 44 exact-package checks plus 51 existing launcher checks. Fresh install, updating from 0.1.7, rollback and repair passed.

The changes are isolated from unfinished gameplay work. Actual EA/Virtual Desktop/VDXR headset rendering and full-campaign compatibility remain unverified. Use Report feedback → Save diagnostics for startup problems; review the report before sharing it. Nothing uploads automatically.

BC2VR 0.1.7 — Package recovery hotfix

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 19 Oct 11:39

BC2VR 0.1.7 — package recovery and asset-preparation hotfix

Campaign blocked — not ready for a campaign playthrough. The opening knife
still fails to deal damage in user testing, preventing first-mission progress.
A subsequent game crash is also under investigation. This release fixes launcher
issues only; it does not fix those gameplay blockers. Versions 0.1.5–0.1.7 use
the same native VR build. No further gameplay release promotion until actual
damage, opening progression and crash recovery are verified.

This pre-alpha hotfix keeps the same checkpoint426 native VR binaries as 0.1.5 and 0.1.6.

  • Feedback and recovery remain available when package identity or a listed file fails verification. Runtime launch stays blocked until integrity is restored.
  • Setup/update can repair a damaged same-version installation after fully verifying its replacement. Interrupted repairs retain recovery information; settings and a verified previous version are preserved.
  • Asset preparation reports its failing stage and checks required resource contents individually. Unrelated archive-index differences no longer automatically reject matching equipment/audio resources.

For recovery, download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.7.zip, extract it, keep the inner runtime ZIP intact, run Install.cmd and choose your existing launcher folder containing active.json. This also bypasses an older launcher's blocked updater.

The exact package passed 44 package checks and 51 launcher checks, including installed-Worker recovery, repair and rollback. Fresh cold preparation passed with packaged Python and a verified local decoder: all six files, including 48 body parts and audio, match the verified previous outputs byte for byte. No game or headset session was started by these checks.

The external identity mismatch and asset failure are not fully diagnosed. Resource compatibility does not certify another executable or EA/store build. Virtual Desktop/VDXR headset gameplay remains unverified.

Gameplay blockers remain: opening-knife damage/repeat attacks may prevent first-mission progress; death/reload crashes remain unresolved; Nambu downstream launch and impact alignment are unverified. Full-campaign/all-weapons acceptance is not claimed; multiplayer is unsupported.

Python is bundled; first asset preparation may fetch a verified FFmpeg decoder (about 77 MB). No game assets or saves are distributed. Review diagnostics before sharing; nothing uploads automatically.

BC2VR 0.1.6 pre-alpha — launcher startup hotfix

Choose a tag to compare

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 18 Oct 21:57

BC2VR 0.1.6 — launcher startup hotfix

This pre-alpha hotfix improves installation and startup while retaining 0.1.5's checkpoint426 native binaries.

  • Choose game folder selects BFBC2Game.exe; the path stays visible. Malformed launcher settings can be recovered with a backup.
  • Install on any local fixed drive, including C:. Space checks reflect the operation; temporary files stay with the installation.
  • Startup checks your selected OpenXR runtime instead of forcing SteamVR. It checks Direct3D 11, uses BC2's actual render size, allows slower menu startup and waits for native VR input telemetry before reporting running.
  • An unverified executable is rejected before attaching the mod, with a fingerprint and local diagnostics for feedback. This does not add blanket EA/store compatibility.

Download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.6.zip, extract it, keep the inner runtime ZIP intact and run Install.cmd. Existing users can update with pre-alpha hotfixes enabled while BC2 is closed. If 0.1.5's free-space check blocks updating, use the new Setup and choose your existing launcher folder. Settings are preserved.

Validation passed 28 package checks and 51 launcher checks, plus focused startup/settings regressions. Fresh equipment/audio preparation and cache validation passed with packaged Python and a verified decoder. No game or headset session was started by these checks. SteamVR remains the tested headset setup; VDXR gameplay is unverified.

Known blockers remain: opening-knife damage/repeat stabbing may prevent first-mission progress; death/reload crashes and Nambu impact alignment remain unresolved. Full-campaign/all-weapons play is unverified; multiplayer is unsupported.

First asset preparation may download a verified FFmpeg decoder (about 77 MB). No game assets or saves are distributed. Review diagnostics before attaching feedback; nothing uploads automatically.

BC2VR 0.1.5 — checkpoint 426 pre-alpha

Choose a tag to compare

@justiceofrip justiceofrip released this 18 Oct 15:52

BC2VR 0.1.5 — checkpoint 426 pre-alpha

An experimental singleplayer VR build with an installer, desktop launcher, updater, rollback and Report feedback button.

Download BC2VR-Setup-0.1.5.zip, extract it on a data drive and run Install.cmd. Keep the inner runtime ZIP intact. Select your BC2 folder in the launcher, connect your headset and launch into the VR main menu.

Includes native stereo, tracked hands and weapons, physical holsters, supported manual reloads, and the headset-confirmed opening cloud fix. This checkpoint adds Nambu100 grip/support data, native magazine-transfer validation, recenter corrections and a fix for the opening knife's stuck automatic-holster request.

Known blockers: opening-knife damage and repeat stabbing remain unverified and may prevent first-mission progress. Death/reload crashes remain unresolved. This is not a verified full-campaign build; unsupported weapons, manual LMG reloads, some scopes and reconnect behavior need work. Multiplayer is unsupported.

The installer passed 25 package checks and 49 launcher checks; both native builds passed 291 suites. These checks do not replace headset or campaign playtesting.

First setup requires internet access. Python is bundled; first asset preparation downloads a verified FFmpeg decoder (about 77 MB). Equipment/audio caches are generated locally from your game. No game assets or saves are distributed.

Use Report feedback to prepare a small local diagnostics ZIP, then review and attach it yourself. Nothing uploads automatically. Include the mission, weapon, headset and reproduction steps.
