I'm no engineer, but I ended up getting into the self-hosting hobby with Home Assistant, and things grew from there. However, I got as far as knowing how to set up open-source projects using Docker Compose.

I saw this project being featured on https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted and got super interested, but the "get started" options to install are a bit beyond my knowledge.

Is there any way to spin a container image using docker?

Thank you for contacting me, I'm glad to hear about your interest in YAFFA. At the moment, there's no Docker image available as an installation option, but it is on the to-do list. I'll provide you with an update, when it becomes available. In the meantime, is there any specific part of the installation guide, which could be enhanced to help you get started?

Hey @kantorge, I've tried to setup but without success so far. I've tried to run on my intel nuc where I usually have my services running.

First issue happened right away after starting from the compose and .env files available. I got the following error:

I was able to progress by specifying a subnet for the yaffa network:

and specifically setting a IP for the db:

To allow me to directly set DB_HOST=172.18.0.102 in the env file.

With those changes I was able to a fully initiate the app, but when accessing through the browser I received a 500 server error from the application.

The UI leads me to believe the app is running but is refusing my connection. The logs only show a connection request going to the app, but nothing else to explain what is going wrong.

Thank you for reporting all these details, I'm sorry to hear that it was not straightforward to launch the application. If you can set the APP_DEBUG setting in the .env file temporarily to TRUE, it can provide further insights into the issues.

There are two settings I suggest checking, which can also prevent running the application at first.

• Do you have the APP_KEY variable properly set in the .env file? I updated the Docker installation guide with an example how this can be easily set.
• Is the log file folder writable? I added one way of setting this in the installation guide.

You're right on the money, after changing the logs those were the two errors I was getting.

The first one about the APP_KEY, I had generated a random password on 1Pass but once I ran the commands you specified , it worked.

The second one was also right, but now I need to run every time I startup the container. Any ideas to what I can do?

Once both things were addressed I was able to open the application in my browser, create a user and login.

However, some things were weird.

Some resources loaded correctly, others were refused because of permissions. Regardless, I added a bank account and tried to add a transaction, but the account didn't load on the add transaction page. So I couldn't select it, and this error appeared.

Thank you for reporting further details. Let me investigate and come back with a response and recommendation about the folder-permissions. In the meantime, would this suggestion resolve your issue with the missing content, adopting it to the IP and port settings you use? #265 (comment)
