LocalTeX turns screenshots and handwritten formulas into reusable Markdown or LaTeX, entirely on your device.

Highlights

  • Recognize text, formulas, and tables from screenshots or imported images.
  • Write formulas on the drawing board and convert them to LaTeX.
  • Review and edit results, export to Word, and search your local history.
  • See the application version and Git commit in Settings → System.
  • Built with Rust 2024; source archives also build without Git metadata.

Downloads

All application packages include the OpenDoc and handwriting models for offline recognition.

Platform Download
Windows x86_64 LocalTeX-0.1.0-x86_64-Setup.exe installer, or the portable .zip
Linux x86_64 .deb package, or the .tar.gz archive

Linux builds target Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (glibc 2.39) and require an X11 session. Ubuntu 22.04, Wayland, and macOS are not supported.

SHA256SUMS contains checksums for the four application packages. GitHub's automatically generated source archives do not include model weights.

See the README for an overview and the development guide for building from source.
