VibeSync 0.3.0

Sync that survives a wrong passphrase — and explains itself.

One unreadable file used to abort an entire sync. Four files encrypted under a stale passphrase silently blocked every session, project and sidebar entry across two machines, with nothing in the logs to say why. This release makes that class of failure visible, survivable and self-repairing.

Fixed

  • A bad file costs one file, not the sync. Anything that can't be read or written is skipped, counted and retried next sync — everything else still syncs.
  • Setup checks your passphrase against the storage before you finish, in about a second, and tells you plainly whether it's the right one. Continue stays disabled while it checks.
  • Clear diagnosis in the log. A sync that hits unreadable files prints a block naming the machine that wrote them and which computer to fix it on — and says nothing is lost.
  • Self-healing. After you correct a passphrase, that machine re-uploads its own unreadable files automatically. No manual repair, and it never touches another machine's files.
  • No pointless re-uploads. Content the store already holds is adopted rather than re-uploaded; identical bytes were changing object ETags and stalling every other machine's sync.

Also

  • README reorganised around a quick start and a real troubleshooting section, including what each log message means.
  • Windows: the tray popover no longer closes itself; a second launch focuses the running app.

Install

macOS: VibeSync_0.3.0_universal.dmg (signed and notarized). Windows: .exe or .msi — Windows will warn about an unknown publisher, which is explained in the README. Existing installs can update from Settings → Check for updates.

You can now see where each project lives on every computer, and updates install without needing a manual restart.

New — Projects view

Settings → Projects shows one card per project and one line per computer, so "why didn't this project's sessions arrive?" is answerable by looking instead of guessing. Computers missing a project are dimmed rather than hidden — that absence is usually the answer.

When a project isn't on this computer, Locate… points it at the folder. It records the repository's own identity, not a manual name, so the other computers keep matching it the way they already do. The folder is checked to be that repository before anything is saved.

Fixed

"Update and restart" never restarted (macOS). The app relaunched the program file the updater had just replaced, so it quit and stayed shut — you had to start it yourself. It now hands the relaunch to macOS properly.

Updates were missed on computers that start automatically. The check ran once, at launch, often before Wi-Fi or a VPN had connected — and never tried again. It now retries a few times before giving up.

Long folder paths overflowed their row, hiding the Remove button next to a code folder. Paths now shorten in the middle (/Volumes/…/_projekt/homeserver), keeping the part that identifies the folder.

Settings → Log file → Show opens debug.log in Finder or Explorer.

VibeSync v0.2.5

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Aug 19:10

Sessions now arrive on a new machine when you expect them to, and a first sync tells you what it's doing.

Fixed

Sessions could stop syncing to a machine, permanently. git_roots.json was written non-atomically and every read error fell back to an empty map — so a torn write silently re-keyed every transcript, which then read as "the user deleted all of these". That flag is one-way. Writes are now atomic, an unreadable map is distinguished from an absent one, and deletion marking is suppressed when it can't be trusted.

A project could take six or more syncs to appear. Newly discovered clone locations weren't republished to the fleet until the next sync, and discovery only searched one level out per run. Both fixed: discovery now runs to a fixed point and publishes what it finds in the same sync.

Repos cloned somewhere unusual were never found. An external drive, or a tree unlike anything on your other machines — VibeSync had no way to reach it, so those sessions waited until you opened the project in a tool. Point Settings → Code folders at where you keep repositories and they're found before you start working. Not needed if your repos live under your home folder.

Claude Code could be misdetected. The setup assistant and the syncer used different probes, and both mistook VibeSync's own synced files for an installation.

Improved

  • A first sync against cloud storage no longer sits on a blank spinner — it now reports Connecting, Scanning, Reading storage, Uploading, Downloading
  • debug.log is bounded continuously at 5 MB with one previous file kept, instead of only being checked when a sync started
  • Folder pickers work from the menu bar popover (the popover was dismissing itself and taking the dialog with it)
  • No browser context menu on right-click, except in text fields
  • Storage line no longer repeats "(encrypted)"
