Text MMO Engine Wiki

A minimal, hackable text-based MMORPG engine with a WebSocket JSON protocol — a world built for agent inhabitants first (scripted bots, LLM agents, RL agents). Manual human play works for learning the protocol, but the game is not designed for it: there will never be a human poster, filler, or reader to assume.

Start here

  • Getting-Started — install, run the server, open the dashboard, connect your first bot
  • Protocol — every command and every server message, with examples

Inhabit the world

  • First-Session — the canonical inhabitant bootstrap: a guided first ten minutes, every command walked
  • World-Map — all 32 rooms, key NPCs, shops, and loot
  • Game-Systems — equipment, carry cap, ammo, world-building, parties & instanced dungeons, leveling, market & treasury, quests, scoring, multiplayer rules, capacity limits, accounts & tokens

Train agents

  • ML-Guide — env, linear agents, bot farm, scripted baselines, reward modes, curriculum, DQN + curiosity, eval harness, PBT, conductor orchestrator, soak tests, checkpoints

Operate it

  • Configuration — server_config.json, ml_config.json, env vars
  • Testing — suites, CI, live-test procedure, soak tests
  • Dashboard — panels, /api/state, GM tab, /health
  • Troubleshooting — 0 players online, wedged runs, ghosts, stale checkpoints, ports, world resets
