v0.2.3
Two fixes for things that went wrong quietly.
- Window Fan (and Deck, the switchers, Undo) could now and then find no
windows at all: for one moment macOS answers "no such app" for every
running app, and Hammerdeck took that at its word. Fan showed a brief
"No windows to fan" and did nothing. Windows are now listed whatever
that lookup says, and every time Fan or Deck declines to start, the
daily log says why. - Undo after a Window Grid placement puts the window back where it was
before Grid. It used to stop at the first cell you pressed. - When a window refuses to move back, Undo says so -- "Couldn't move 1
window back -- press again to retry" -- and pressing again retries.
It used to report "Nothing to undo" and lose the step.
v0.2.2
Rules can run a command, and a rule that misfires switches itself off.
- Run a command: a new rule action runs a command line through your login
shell, so tools installed with Homebrew are found. Its exit code and any
error go to the daily log. The command runs without Hammerdeck's privacy
permissions: it cannot reach what Full Disk Access, Accessibility or
Automation let Hammerdeck reach. - Risky actions -- locking the screen, emptying the Trash, running a command
-- are marked, and adding one asks first. If a risky rule fires on its own
5 times within 2 minutes, it is switched off before the fifth run and a
notification says why. Hold Option while Hammerdeck starts to pause every
rule for that session. - Building a rule walks you through it: each pick opens the next field.
- The window panels -- Window Grid, Window Mode, and Window Deck's and Window
Fan's controls and pickers -- are sized to the screen they are on, so they
read at a glance on a big display.
Also:
- App Launcher says why macOS refused to open an app (for example, an Xcode
too old for this macOS) instead of calling it gone. - A crash report counts your features instead of saying "0 enabled of 0".
v0.2.1
When something goes wrong, sending it to me is one click, and it is always your
choice.
- If Hammerdeck quit unexpectedly, the next launch asks once whether to send a
report. It shows what macOS recorded about the crash -- the version, the
error, the top of the stack -- with your paths removed. Nothing leaves your
Mac unless you press Send, and the same crash is never asked about twice. - Report a Problem offers a GitHub issue beside email. Both start from the same
diagnostics, which are also copied to the clipboard so nothing is lost when a
long report has to be shortened to fit. - Every background update check writes one line to the daily log: found, up to
date, too new for this Mac, feed unreachable, or signature rejected. A failed
check used to be silent.
Also: Hammerdeck installs with Homebrew
(brew install --cask kouxing2000/tap/hammerdeck). It still updates itself, so
brew upgrade leaves it alone.
v0.2.0
A fresh install now does something out of the box, and the app tells you what
it just did.
- Hammerdeck ships as a disk image. Open it and drag Hammerdeck to
Applications, the way a Mac app is meant to arrive. - The window suite ships enabled. A first launch used to boot with almost every
feature switched off, so a new install did nothing until you configured it.
The curated spine -- the six window features, Pointer Follows, and the two
that show what fired -- is on from the start. - First run walks a golden path: an empty deck offers one button to refill it,
the Accessibility ask explains why it is needed before asking, and the last
step names a shortcut to try. - Hammerdeck has a menu bar. About, the version, Settings, Check for Updates,
Quit -- and, because AppKit delivers them nowhere else, working Cmd-X / Cmd-C
/ Cmd-V / Cmd-A in every text field in the app. - Open at login, off by default, in Settings > General.
- Receive beta updates, also off by default and in the same place. Every
release is offered there first, before it goes out to everyone; turn it off
at any time to go back to the general releases. - Reload Features and the extensions folder report what happened. An empty
folder, a wrong layout, and a folder whose extensions were all rejected used
to render as the same nothing. - One window mode per screen. Entering Window Fan over Window Deck used to
record the deck's grid as your "original layout" and left the real one
unrecoverable. - The Window Fan switcher card is resizable and remembers its size.
- A copy pointed at a test update feed says so, and offers the way back.
- The update dialog carries release notes. Earlier versions showed an empty
panel at the moment you decide whether to trust an update. - A failed launch names the error, copies it to the clipboard, and writes it to
the log -- and restores the Caps Lock remap it used to leave in place until
the next reboot.
Also: a repository-wide audit and the fixes it found, across the rules engine,
window membership, the extension capability gate, and the seam.
