UFO CLI 1.7.1 is one local tool for every file an AI agent touches: find what is hidden or risky in incoming files, read them, change them without breaking them and hand back clean copies. This release converts PDFs to Office files and sharpens what inspection reports.

  • PDF to Office: ufo convert --to docx writes editable Word paragraphs from a PDF's complete visible text; --to xlsx writes an Excel table from a reviewed region and explicit column edges; --to pptx writes page pictures. Unmapped glyphs, ambiguous tables and protected raw PDFs refuse instead of guessing. Word and Excel conversion run in the restricted container; page pictures and Office to PDF need the application archive or Debian package.
  • Programs and trailing data: inspection reads Windows, Linux and Apple program headers, and reports bytes after a PDF's final %%EOF or a ZIP's end record.
  • Metadata: document dates and properties are structured metadata, whole values are published without the old 400-character cut, an image's EXIF Artist or PNG Author raises has_author, and every finding carries the catalog flag its code raises.
  • PDF: properties and the text layer inside compressed object streams are read, many-page PDFs no longer rescan the document per page, and annotations work on PDFs whose stream data runs straight into endstream.
  • Calibration: personal-data and PDF findings are calibrated for ordinary documents; list replies and stray hidden glyphs rate low; emoji joiners no longer count as hidden characters; forwarded emails and RFC 2231 attachment names are read; a workbook's clean copy says how many hidden sheets are marked very hidden.

Native installation supports Linux x86_64 with glibc 2.35 or newer. Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 12 installation, offline evaluation and removal passed, and a 10-minute four-worker mixed workload completed 2,367 of 2,367 commands without memory growth or stranded workers. The restricted container processes documents with networking disabled.

The engine binaries use the UFO business use license. They are free for individuals and eligible small organizations; larger organizations need the published organization license. Android and Windows Pro purchases are separate.
