• A settings description is a label, not a lecture. It renders in a sidebar
  211 pixels wide, so it is capped at 72 characters (two lines) by a debug
  assertion on the builder. The reference system's own run 27 to 90 characters,
  median 53; the discovery plugin's ran 80 to 130, every one longer than that
  maximum and three to four lines deep in a narrow column. SettingsItem::hint
  is the new home for anything longer: a note at the top of the screen itself,
  uncapped, since the reader has chosen to open it. It supersedes the
  description there, so the two never print together.
