Ledge 0.1.6

Choose a tag to compare

@danhstevens danhstevens released this 02 Oct 02:26
v0.1.6
b4e0868

Ledge is a Markdown notebook that runs the code in your notes.

New in 0.1.6

  • A changed settings.jsonc applies on the next launch. The server restarts once the last app disconnects, and a window that opened on the old settings says what will apply the new ones.
  • On Windows, closing one window no longer restarts the server under the others, which lost their runs and shells. Opening Ledge a second time now raises the running copy instead of starting another, and two server installs at once no longer undo each other (#12).
  • A run's output stays when its panel scrolls out of view or the window narrows, and a finished run no longer holds the note wide after a resize. On phones this arrives with the next iPhone and Android app updates.
  • About Ledge shows the app's version and the connected server's, with a Copy button, and ledge version prints the same line.
  • On Linux and Windows, the menus (Ledge, File, Edit, Note, View, Help) are in the window's header (#11).

Install

Mac, for Apple Silicon: the DMG below. Drag Ledge to Applications and open it from there.

Linux: linux-x64-Ledge-Setup.tar.gz or linux-arm64-Ledge-Setup.tar.gz below. Extract it and run ./installer. It needs GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 38 or newer).

Windows: win-x64-Ledge-Setup.zip below. Right-click it, choose Extract All, and run Ledge-Setup.exe from the extracted folder. It needs WSL: if Ledge says it is missing, run wsl --install in an administrator PowerShell and restart. Windows may say it protected your PC while the installer is new: choose More info, then Run anyway.

iPhone and iPad: Ledge Notebook on the App Store.

Android: the Google Play beta, through ledge.sh/android.

Every desktop app updates itself.

A server, signed in as the account Ledge should use:

curl -fsSL https://ledge.sh/server.sh | sh

Then ~/.ledge/.server/bin/ledge pair prints a code to scan with Ledge on a phone, or to paste into the desktop app's Add Server form.

The manual is at ledge.sh/docs, and inside the app behind the help button.

Ledge 0.1.5

@danhstevens danhstevens released this 01 Oct 05:52
v0.1.5

Ledge is a Markdown notebook that runs the code in your notes.

New in 0.1.5

  • Every device connected to a server shows the same workspaces, under the same names and icons. A workspace created, renamed, given an icon, or deleted on one device changes on the others straight away. Each device still keeps its own arrangement: the order of the workspaces, the split panes and the open tabs. Update the server and the apps to get this.
  • On phones, the profile button, frontmatter tags and greyed-out run buttons now respond to a tap, and notices show under the header while the sidebar is shut. These arrive with the next iPhone and Android app updates.
  • ⌘N while a sidebar row has focus puts the caret in the new note's title, so typing names the note.

The manual is at ledge.sh/docs, and inside the app behind the help button.

v0.1.4

Ledge is a Markdown notebook that runs the code in your notes.

New in 0.1.4

  • Ledge for Android is in an open beta on Google Play, and anyone can join: ledge.sh/android has the three steps. It pairs with a server the same way the iPhone app does.
  • The manual inside the app and on every server now covers Android: pairing, where the app keeps its key and passwords, sharing, and the keyboard.

Ledge 0.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@danhstevens danhstevens released this 26 Sep 23:21
v0.1.3
99a340f

Ledge is a Markdown notebook that runs the code in your notes.

New in 0.1.3

  • Ledge for Linux, on x64 and arm64. The same notebook, with Ctrl in place of ⌘, installed under your home folder with no root.
  • Ledge for Windows, on Windows 11 x64. Your notes live in WSL and every block runs there, as a Linux command. The app installs its own server into WSL and keeps it at the app's version. The installer is signed.

Fixed in 0.1.3

  • The note browser's error strip can be dismissed, and a notice replaces an error that is still showing (#6).
  • A window whose connection drops while it is still opening now reconnects, instead of staying on "Connecting… No answer yet." (#7).
  • A block that finishes while the connection is down shows how long it really ran once the window reconnects.

Every desktop app updates itself from here on.

Ledge 0.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@danhstevens danhstevens released this 23 Sep 05:01
v0.1.2
f89e794

Ledge is a Markdown notebook that runs the code in your notes.

Ledge comes in three parts that ship together:

  • Ledge for Mac. The notebook: write Markdown, run its code blocks and shell commands in place, and keep a terminal beside each note.
  • Ledge for iPhone and iPad. A window onto your notes on a server, over ssh, with a Secure Enclave key that never leaves the device. Ledge Notebook on the App Store.
  • The Ledge server. Keeps your notes and runs their blocks on a Linux machine or a Mac, reached over the ssh you already have. It opens no port and runs no service.

Fixed in 0.1.2

  • Copy and paste in Ledge opened from the Dock no longer garbles curly quotes, accents and emoji (a copied ’ used to paste as ‚Äô).
  • On a Mac, note shells get a UTF-8 LANG when the login environment sets no locale, the way Terminal does, so pbcopy in a block and non-ASCII output work the same as in a terminal.

Install

The Mac app is the DMG below, for Apple Silicon Macs: drag Ledge to Applications and open it from there. It updates itself from here on.

A server, signed in as the account Ledge should use:

curl -fsSL https://ledge.sh/server.sh | sh

Then ~/.ledge/.server/bin/ledge pair prints a code to scan with Ledge on a phone, or to paste into the Mac app's Add Server form.

The manual is at ledge.sh/docs, and inside the app behind the help button.

Ledge 0.0.3 Pre-release

@danhstevens danhstevens released this 16 Sep 23:20
v0.0.3
b9cb120

Third pre-release. Backups, and one editor fix.

Backups

ledge backup setup --existing no longer takes a backup when it joins a repository. It used to back up the machine it was joining from, which on a machine being rebuilt meant backing up an empty disk and then thinning old snapshots, deleting the newest snapshot minutes before the restore asked for it. It now opens the repository, writes the profile, and prints the newest snapshot with the restore command to run.

The retention policy keeps the ten newest snapshots whatever times they were taken at, on top of the hourly, daily, weekly and monthly rules. Every one of those rules keeps a single snapshot per period, so before this a backup taken beside a recent one thinned that one away.

A machine thins nothing in a repository until it has a snapshot of its own in it.

ledge backup setup opens or creates the repository before it writes the backup profile. A setup that fails, on a mistyped password or a --replace that should have been --existing, now leaves a working machine backing up exactly as it was.

Editor

A click in the blank space beside a link places the caret there instead of opening the link.

Install

The Mac app is the DMG below: drag Ledge to Applications and open it from there.

A server:

curl -fsSL https://github.com/ledgesh/ledge/releases/download/v0.0.3/server.sh | sh
