UNDERTALE, playable by ear — v1.3. An update to the NVDA accessibility mod, made and tested by a blind player who beat the whole game with it. This one improves the trickiest part of Papyrus's fight, straight from player feedback.

New in v1.3

  • Papyrus's blue "jump" attacks are much more playable. In the blue-soul part your heart stands on a floor and jumps over bones — but it isn't just one kind of jump: some bones need a little hop, some need a big held jump, and some hang from the ceiling so you have to stay down. The old cue used the same beep for all of them, so there was no way to hear the difference.
    • The mod now sets your jump height for you — just press Up in time with the beep and it makes the jump the right size (small hop or big jump) and drops you back down in time for the next one.
    • You can hear what's coming: a high beep is a small bone, a low beep is a tall bone, and a slow low pulse means a bone overhead — stay down.
    • A soft tick when you land tells you you're ready to jump the next one, so a run of bones has a rhythm you can follow.
  • Upgrading is smoother. The installer now upgrades an older version of the mod in place, instead of asking you to uninstall first.

Install / update

  1. Download Undertale-NVDA-Access.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Close UNDERTALE, then run Install (Install.bat).
  3. It auto-finds your game, backs it up, and patches it in seconds. Run Uninstall anytime to revert.

Updating from an earlier version is the same: just run Install again over your current game.

Everything the installer says is spoken by NVDA.

Requirements

  • Windows · UNDERTALE on Steam, v1.08 (the installer checks and refuses safely if your version differs) · NVDA running while you play.

What's covered

All dialogue, menus, walk-by-ear navigation (with auto-walk), battles, the FIGHT timing bar, attack-dodging (with assist/slow/normal modes), the jump and shield soul fights, area puzzles (with a skip option for purely visual ones), shops, elevators, the Mettaton quiz, and the final boss.

See KEYS.txt in the download for the full controls. Feedback from other players is very welcome.

UNDERTALE is by Toby Fox. This is an unofficial fan project and includes no game files — it only patches the copy you already own.
