Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.

exe is a personal VM cloud on a machine of your own: one Go binary that runs persistent Linux VMs, a coding agent inside them, an SSH gate, and a reverse proxy that publishes any VM port to a real HTTPS address, with a Mac OS 9 Platinum desktop in the browser to drive it all. https://exe.v2core.com

This is the first release. Until now exe was built from a checkout.

Install

Linux, and macOS 13 or later; x86-64 and ARM64 (Intel and Apple silicon):

curl -fsSL https://exe.v2core.com/install.sh | sh

The installer asks where exe should listen, whether to require an API token and whether to add the extra desktop apps, and writes nothing until the last answer. On Linux it offers one more step, with sudo, that sets a KVM machine up for VMs and lists its commands first. What it asks and where it puts things: https://exe.v2core.com/docs/getting-started#installing

exe update moves an installed exe to the next release. exe uninstall removes it and keeps your data.

The files

  • exe-linux-amd64.tar.gz, exe-linux-arm64.tar.gz: static binaries, with the network helper.
  • exe-darwin-amd64.tar.gz, exe-darwin-arm64.tar.gz: signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
  • exe-apps.tar.gz: Notes, Paint, Tides, Todo, Weather and World Clock, from exe-apps.
  • install.sh, the installer as https://exe.v2core.com/install.sh serves it, and SHA256SUMS.

Good to know

  • On a Mac, the first VM brings a macOS alert asking to let exe reach devices on your local network. Its VMs are there: choose Allow.
  • The Intel Mac build was run for its installer and desktop only. Its VMs have not been tried on an Intel Mac.
  • Windows is built from source: https://exe.v2core.com/docs/getting-started
