exe now updates itself from the desktop. Software Update, in the Apple menu, names the newest release, shows what changed in it, and installs it; this is the first release that has it, and the last one you need a shell to get.
Install
Linux, and macOS 13 or later; x86-64 and ARM64 (Intel and Apple silicon):
curl -fsSL https://exe.v2core.com/install.sh | shWindows 11 on x86-64, in PowerShell:

New
- Software Update, in the Apple menu. The Apple wears a diamond when a newer release is out. The window says what is installed and what is newest, lists what changed, and Update Now installs it and restarts exe. The update runs in the daemon, so the window, or the browser, can be closed meanwhile; afterwards it says how each VM that was running came back. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/updating
- Welcome…, in the Help menu, is exe in six cards, and a new install opens on it. Extras… on its Apps card turns the extra apps on and off.
- Join a Hub…, in the Hub app: four steps, from a hub's address to your profile. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/the-hub
- Node Sync…, in the Special menu, is the old Join…: it pairs this exe with another.
- Mac OS X, in the Special menu: an emulated Power Mac G4 running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, beside the Mac OS 9 app. The first launch fetches the emulator and Apple's install DVD, a 2.6 GiB download, and walks through the installation. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/mac-os-x
- Search, beside New in the Claude Code window, finds any conversation, archived ones too.
- View → as Icons / as List for a Workspace window: right-click its empty part. Each folder remembers its view, and a folder in a list opens under its triangle. Text files, CD images, classic Mac archives and checksums have icons of their own. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/workspace-and-files
- Save a Screenshot: right-click a window's title bar, and a PNG of the window lands in Workspace/Screenshots.
- The manual opens on its contents, reads a chapter at a time, and has a search bar. Every chapter now says what its feature is for before how it works. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using
Fixed
- On a Mac, a restart shuts the VMs down before exe goes. 2026.10.10 and 2026.10.10.2 cut their power instead, and a VM could stay stopped afterwards.
- The installer no longer stops at
version?: unbound variableon a Mac. - Space types in a Terminal window on an iPad with a keyboard.
- The wheel scrolls a Codex window's transcript again.
The files

Good to know
- 2026.10.10 and 2026.10.10.2 have no Software Update window: move them here once with
exe updatein a shell. From this release on, the Apple menu does it. - On a Mac that runs one of those two, stop the VMs before updating. The exe that restarts is still the old one, which cuts the power of a running VM. From this release on a restart shuts them down first.
- Tried before publishing: a new install on Linux (ARM64) and on a Mac (Apple silicon), each with its questions answered at a terminal;
exe updatefrom 2026.10.10.2 on Linux (x86-64 and ARM64), on a Mac and on Windows; Software Update's window on a Linux PC and on a Windows PC, each with a VM running and the browser tab closed during the download; a restart with a VM running on a Mac. In each case the guest was shut down, not cut off, and came back. - Not tried for this release: a new install on Windows, which the PC under test no longer needed (it was updated); a real sign-out on Windows; Windows 10.
- The Windows build is not signed, as before.
- The Intel Mac build was only started under Rosetta, on an Apple silicon Mac. Its VMs have still not been tried on an Intel Mac.
