Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.

exe hands work to its coding agents. Projects, a new extra, sends an issue to Claude Code or Codex from its menu, and Welcome now sets up both CLIs. The Claude Code window shows each session's prompts and details, and on a phone you can copy and paste in a terminal.

Install

Linux, and macOS 13 or later; x86-64 and ARM64 (Intel and Apple silicon):

curl -fsSL https://exe.v2core.com/install.sh | sh

Windows 11 on x86-64, in PowerShell:

irm https://exe.v2core.com/install.ps1 | iex

An exe that is already installed moves to this release with Software Update in the Apple menu, or with exe update.

New

  • Projects, the fourth extra in Welcome's Extras…: an issue tracker for the desktop. Right-click an issue and choose Send to Claude Code or Send to Codex to start a session on it in the project's folder. A project's menu has Open in Claude Code. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/apps
  • Set Up… on Welcome's Claude Code and Codex card: the version of each CLI, and how to install one that is missing.
  • The Claude Code window: the latest prompt of a session stands over its terminal, and a click lists every prompt. Get Info on a session gives its summary, its first and last prompts, its turns and its tokens. Archive… says how much memory the session gave back. Search finds a session by its name too. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/claude-code-codex-and-terminal
  • Agent, on the Mac OS X window: a Chat that works inside the Tiger Mac and can upload Workspace files to it. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/mac-os-x
  • Stickies: press the pushpin at a note's foot in Notes, and the note stands on the desk in a window of its own, as Mac OS 9's Stickies did.
  • Show Desktop, the button left of Show All Windows in the menu bar, slides every open window off to the edge, and back. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/the-desktop
  • Notes and Projects can be read while exe does not answer. The alert that takes the desktop's place has a button for each, and the app shows the copy it kept, read-only, with its age.
  • On a phone: pinch or double-tap a picture to zoom it, and swipe sideways through an issue's pictures. Press and hold a terminal for Copy, Paste and Select All.
  • On an iPhone or iPad, the Home Screen app checks for a new desktop when it is reopened, and, where the browser supports it, notifications arrive even when its service worker cannot run. An installed app keeps the screen awake while a Claude Code or Codex window is in front.
  • exe expose <host> -dir <folder> serves a folder on this machine at a public address. https://exe.v2core.com/docs/using/publishing-to-the-web
  • What every release changed is a page of the manual: https://exe.v2core.com/docs/changelog

Fixed

  • On Windows, exe ssh reaches a VM again on a PC where Codex has run. Codex's sandbox could read the VM's key, and OpenSSH refuses such a key. The key is now kept to its user.
  • The green dot of a Claude Code session goes out when a turn is interrupted with Escape.
  • Between joined desks, a Workspace file over 10 MB that was moved to another folder stays on its node. Before, the nodes tried to send it every 30 seconds, and every try failed.

The files

  • exe-linux-amd64.tar.gz, exe-linux-arm64.tar.gz: static binaries, with the network helper.
  • exe-darwin-amd64.tar.gz, exe-darwin-arm64.tar.gz: signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
  • exe-windows-amd64.tar.gz: exe.exe, static, not signed.
  • exe-apps.tar.gz: Notes, Paint, Tides, Todo, Weather and World Clock, from exe-apps.
  • install.sh and install.ps1, the installers as https://exe.v2core.com serves them, and SHA256SUMS.
  • NOTES.md: what changed, as Software Update shows it.

Good to know

  • Projects, Planet and Easel install from their own repositories: exe-projects, exe-planet, exe-easel. Projects shows Send to Claude Code and Send to Codex only with this release of exe or a later one.
  • Tried before publishing: the update that Software Update starts, from 2026.10.12, on Linux (x86-64), on Windows and on a Mac (Apple silicon), each with a VM running. Each guest was shut down, not cut off, and came back. Also exe update in a shell on Linux (ARM64), and a new install on Linux (ARM64) and on a Mac (Apple silicon), each with its questions answered at a terminal.
  • Not tried for this release: pressing Update Now in a browser (the window has not changed since 2026.10.12, where it was tried), a new install on Windows, and Windows 10.
  • The iPhone and iPad changes were tried in Chromium and WebKit, not yet on a device.
  • The Windows build is not signed, as before.
  • The Intel Mac build was only started under Rosetta, on an Apple silicon Mac. Its VMs have still not been tried on an Intel Mac.
