Series and collections

• Show a cleaner Hardcover reading order with English main-book representatives, while keeping supplements and other catalog entries available separately.
• Improve series metadata loading and separate list-building from series requests.
• Detect collection contents from MAM descriptions, series ranges, release details, and torrent file and folder names. Match the included books to Hardcover without assuming a pack contains an author's entire bibliography.
• Present matched collection books with covers and select supported matches by default. Allow individual book/file selection and catalog-match corrections before downloading.
• Share verified collection transfers across selected books and validate individual book and recording identities during import.

Automatic requests and downloads

• Select missing ebooks and audiobooks using personal format defaults, and recalculate missing-format counts when the requested format changes.
• Default series requests to automatic acquisition with a simpler request panel and clearer progress.
• Preserve catalog metadata through collection requests and reconcile selected downloads automatically.
• Retry an unsuccessful automatic search immediately with an author-qualified query before applying the normal backoff. Existing eligible waiting series requests receive this recovery once after upgrade.
• Open source searches in the requested ebook or audiobook format and retry temporary cover-image failures.

Upgrade

This patch simplifies library setup, fixes imports when individual downloads cannot be hardlinked, improves automatic Usenet selection, and removes request and transfer caps.

Library connections and imports

• Check the access an import actually needs: readable downloads and writable library/staging folders. Setup no longer rehearses publication locks, collision handling, and recovery operations on shared media storage.
• Copy an individual file when its hardlink fails because of permissions, filesystem support, mount boundaries, or link-count limits. Downloader ownership and write access are not required for copying, and source files remain untouched.
• Reserve space before a fallback copy starts, wait when space is unavailable, and preserve the transfer choice across retries and cancellation. Completed copies do not reserve their bytes twice.
• Use the same mount and journal-storage validation in the folder picker and background verification, preventing routes from appearing ready when imports would reject their storage configuration.
• Place new Audiobookshelf staging inside the library's reserved hidden folder so setup does not need write access to the library's parent. Grimmory uses this placement when its watcher is disabled. Keep existing valid staging and journal locations.
• Report failed folder operations with the affected path and worker identity. Shared media staging keeps ordinary share permissions; new routes keep private journals in application storage.

Automatic downloads

• Treat NZB article names as transport metadata rather than the final book files. Eligible single-book Usenet releases can proceed through selection while completed, extracted media is validated before import. Collections still require coverage review.
• Recognize format labels separated by spaces at the end of release titles, improving Prowlarr format detection and title matching.
• Remove daily, concurrent-transfer, transfer-size, automatic candidate-inspection, and replacement-attempt caps. Disk-space reservations, source constraints, file validation, and provider rate limits continue to apply.

Requests and interface

• Remove request quotas, pending-request caps, quota settings, and usage summaries. Previously saved quota policies no longer restrict requests; permissions and approval requirements still apply. Historical records remain available, and legacy endpoints report unlimited usage.
• Simplify capacity settings around actual free disk space.
• Show compact status on book-cover quick actions and link to the corresponding request or source review. Distinguish queued downloads from active transfers and show why a queued transfer is waiting.

Upgrade

Pull ghcr.io/logabell/dewarr:v0.3.6 or ghcr.io/logabell/dewarr:latest, then recreate Dewarr. Stable images support linux/amd64 and linux/arm64.

This patch adds no database migrations. For a previously failed library route, run Save & verify folder again. Custom legacy staging that still stores journals must retain private permissions; this release does not move existing journals or change permissions on arbitrary media folders.

Behavior change: previously configured request quotas and download caps are no longer enforced. Configure transfer concurrency in the download client if your installation needs it.

This patch brings a redesigned Following page, more reliable downloads and imports, simpler library setup, and explicit linking for existing OIDC accounts.

Following and book pages

• Browse followed authors and series with catalog totals, books in your library, upcoming releases, and latest books. Search, filter, sort, and expand their book lists, or browse releases grouped by month.
• Follow an author directly from their page or a book's details. Co-authored books offer individual author controls. Following remains separate from download-policy approval.
• Refresh release shelves and expanded books when catalog updates complete, including follows hidden by filters or pagination. Shared books use the newest eligible saved publication date before being classified as upcoming or recently published.
• Place Follow author beside Add to reading list. Long titles and subtitles remain fully visible without a Show full title toggle.

Downloads and import review

• Resolve validated Prowlarr HTTP(S) download redirects for NZB and torrent files, preserving artifact inspection, credential isolation, and network validation. Sources now explain when no eligible torrent indexers are available. This addresses the confirmed acquisition failure in #32 and improves diagnostics for #34.
• Recognize parenthesized release formats and catalog subtitles, allow eligible automatic NZB dispatch, and reconcile completed SABnzbd/NZBGet jobs across queue and history. Import inspected Usenet output without applying a torrent-manifest comparison to NZB archive names.
• Explain uncertain download states and simplify book matching and import review, reusing the selected book's metadata and keeping ebook/audiobook actions consistent.
• Fix Deluge 2.x connection testing by using its supported version RPC (#35).
• Improve AudiobookBay searches that redirect capitalized queries to the homepage, match corroborated series/volume postings, and import completed releases with matching title and author evidence (#39, #40, #41). Wrong-volume and ambiguous files continue to require review.

Library setup and native workflows

• Preserve library access during display-only connection edits and provide sync/recovery controls when saved audiobook folders disappear (#36).
• Retire unreferenced legacy download mappings and secure newly created or empty Dewarr-owned legacy staging directories despite inherited permissions, addressing the NAS follow-ups in #29. Existing files, operator-managed folders, and mappings still needed by inspected work are preserved.
• Remove the remote marker challenge that could reject valid mounts because of backend permissions or filesystem caches (#45). Setup checks local access and backend configuration; actual book detection still determines whether an import completes.
• Add native Audiobookshelf/Grimmory workflow checks, recover direct Grimmory metadata publication after interrupted responses, and support an administrator-owned single-EPUB Bookdrop review handoff. Bookdrop delivery stays pending until the actual imported library copy is linked; it does not automatically approve Grimmory review.

Account sign-in

• Link an existing local account, including the first administrator, to OIDC after verifying the local password and authenticating with the provider. Unlinking retains local password access.
• Administrators can rename accounts, change display names, and disable accounts while retaining history. Disabling revokes sessions and protects the current and last active administrator. These changes address the username/OIDC setup path reported in #37. Account removal and administrator-managed Plex unlinking are not included.

Upgrade

Back up PostgreSQL and the config directory first: this release includes native-import and OIDC-linking database migrations, applied at startup. For a previously failed library route, run Save & verify folder again. Existing successful route receipts remain usable while their configuration is current. Incorrect mount mappings can pass local setup checks but will remain unconfirmed when the backend cannot detect the actual book.

The limited search-result reports in #32/#34, the Soulseek follow-up in #31, and the reverse-proxy report in #27 still need installation-specific confirmation. This release does not claim those reports are completely resolved.

This patch improves shared ebook/audiobook libraries, mounted-folder setup, and import recovery. It follows up on #29 / NOR-66.

Library folders

• Point ebooks and audiobooks at the same mounted library folder. Setup offers “Use the same folder” and labels both formats as shared.
• Folder names are unrestricted. Dewarr follows the selected paths and mount boundaries, including library folders mounted directly beneath / and different paths reported by Audiobookshelf.
• Shared destinations reuse their staging route. Invalid saved automatic staging choices are reselected; existing recovery journal locations are preserved.
• Overlap errors now identify and log the conflicting paths and configuration keys, including previously configured download roots.
• Read-only downloads remain supported through verified copy routes, with source files preserved.

Import stability and setup clarity

• New imports into shared roots use separate folders labeled Ebook or Audiobook. Naming previews, manual imports, automatic imports, and audiobook part combining use the actual destination. Unrelated libraries and pending plans keep their existing names.
• Manual review retains the selected destination through publication and can refresh stale destination settings after a configuration change.
• Shared-folder badges, expandable staging details, and the folder shortcut follow the existing dark design and responsive layout, including long paths on mobile and keyboard access.

Existing book folders are not renamed or merged. Automatically appending a second format to an existing book folder is not included.

NOR-66 diagnostic note

The reported /library and /downloads paths pass validation in the equivalent tested setup. The exact 422 on the reporter's NAS remains unconfirmed without its effective configuration. If it persists after upgrading, the new error and warning log show which paths conflict; include that message in #29 rather than moving the existing library or guessing at folder names.

Upgrade

No new database migration is included. Pull ghcr.io/logabell/dewarr:v0.3.4 or ghcr.io/logabell/dewarr:latest, then recreate the Dewarr container. Stable images support linux/amd64 and linux/arm64.

Dewarr 0.3.3 brings all changes from dev into the production release, with more reliable downloads and imports, broader source searches, and improved NAS and large-library support.

Downloads, searches, and imports

• Show immediate Quick Add progress, saved requests, queue status, and actionable failures. Retire the status banner once every requested format is confirmed in the library.
• Use the same short-title search for Quick Add and manual Sources searches. Ordinary subtitles no longer narrow the primary query; author and catalog metadata still determine whether a result matches. Custom searches remain intact.
• Recognize explicit file formats and matching title/author pairs in Prowlarr release names when structured metadata is missing. Keep uncertain or conflicting identity evidence subject to review.
• Fix automatic client selection and linked imports when catalog editions are missing, language labels are equivalent, or release metadata omits the subtitle.
• Let an unconstrained Soulseek request use a compatible result without inheriting another request's language restriction. Preserve explicit language and edition requirements for other requests. Resolves #28.
• Simplify completed-download review and recovery, improve request activity, and hide recovery actions once imports are complete. Existing local files and folders can be inspected, linked to a book, and imported from Downloads.

Libraries and storage

• Support library-only mounts such as /library, separate ebook/audiobook shares, and per-destination staging with protected application journals. Library-only staging requires compatible backend watcher/scan settings. Resolves #29.
• Close probe child-file handles before directory publication on Windows SMB. Test native no-replace support on the actual mount, preserve unrelated files, and report genuine access failures. Resolves #30.
• Allow readable-only download folders to qualify for copy imports. Source-mutating seeding routes still require write access.
• Automatically verify configured download folders, show each library route, and improve missing-path and cleanup diagnostics. Includes further fixes for #22, whose reporter confirmed that library saving works.
• Add normal Settings editors for member library grants, including Plex-created accounts, with atomic account/role/access saves, conflict handling, and clear member guidance. Administrators must explicitly grant member access. Resolves #25.
• Split oversized Audiobookshelf metadata batches, isolate oversized items, reuse unchanged inventory details, and reduce database work for large libraries. Improve catalog paging and cover loading. Resolves #26.

Connections and administration

• Add connection-health feedback and reorganize MAM account, automation, and Freeleech controls.
• Add strict public-URL validation, request-correlated origin diagnostics, an operator configuration diagnostic, and optional trusted proxy IP/CIDR handling for client attribution. HTTPS reverse-proxy requests continue to use the configured public origin; forwarded headers do not authorize extra origins. The reporter-specific KeenDNS issue (#27) remains open pending runtime confirmation.
• Retain confirmed configuration deletion for libraries, download clients, and sources, with dependency checks and stale-edit protection.

Release verification and CI

• Run mocked UI and live browser journeys independently, preserving the required combined browser check and separate failure evidence. Full backend paths and four integration shards remain explicit.
• Update obsolete expectations for broader queries, metadata normalization, and receipt formats. Adapt request-history navigation and the disposable recovery worker to the current UI and queue layout; preserve concurrency, permission, and recovery coverage.
• Fix disk-capacity aggregation to include pending reservation changes in the current transaction.
• Correct migration comparison of literal regex expression indexes, with coverage that still detects real index drift.

Dewarr 0.3.2 simplifies downloading a selected release and reuses the clients and library folders already configured during setup.

Downloads and requests

• Show clear source-row feedback with error and success icons, actionable failure reasons, progress, and links to the request or relevant settings.
• Retain release status across refreshes, including queued, downloading, downloaded awaiting import, and imported states; prevent duplicate downloads for active or completed releases.
• Surface selection failures in Requests so unsuccessful attempts are easier to diagnose.
• Automatically use the sole enabled torrent or Usenet client independently. When several clients share a type, select a default in Settings. Soulseek retains its own search/download connection.

Dewarr 0.3.1 makes library setup clearer, improves mounted-storage verification, and adds controls for removing saved connections and folder configurations.

Library folders and imports

• Choose a library separately from its access path. A single library appears as a summary; multiple libraries use a dropdown. Default and custom mount paths are the only radio choices.
• Save library folders before a download client is ready, with a visible next step for connecting a client or verifying file access.
• Default new folder setups to import on completion after successful verification. Explicitly disabled preferences stay off; an unverified route cannot start imports.
• Accept NFS server-side ownership mapping instead of requiring staging ownership to match the container's numeric uid. Private staging permissions and actual filesystem checks still apply.
• Fix a probe cleanup bug that can cause the error reported in #22: close verified temporary-file handles before deletion so NFS deferred unlink does not leave the probe folder non-empty. Preserve the actual operation, path, and error code for genuine cleanup failures. The reproduced cause is fixed; confirmation on the reporter's installation remains pending.

Connections and settings

• Remove saved library servers, download clients, sources, and library folder configurations from Settings. Existing files and history are retained; configurations with unfinished work cannot be removed (#19).
• Improve MAM proxy diagnostics, including DNS, connection, HTTPS tunnel, TLS, and route failures, with a dedicated proxy setup guide.
• Improve reading-account status and recognize a successfully loaded Hardcover list as a verified connection.
• Reorganize request quotas and download recovery into focused settings groups with clearer summaries and navigation.
• Enable download dispatch by default once clients, routes, and policies are configured. An explicit BOOK_DOWNLOAD_DISPATCH_ENABLED=false override is still honored. Existing request, source, and automation policies continue to govern downloads.

Upgrade

Back up PostgreSQL and the configuration directory containing the encryption key. This release adds migration 0068_configuration_deletion; the container applies migrations at startup. Backup bundles remain tied to their schema revision, so restore an older bundle using its matching application version before upgrading.

Dewarr 0.3.0 adds notifications, author and series follows, request quotas, more torrent clients, and automatic recovery for failed downloads. It also improves connection setup and fixes the mounted-library and SABnzbd problems reported in 0.2.3.

New features

• Notifications: Discord, ntfy, JSON webhooks, and administrator-managed Apprise channels, with event preferences, discovery digests, and delivery history.
• Author and series follows: monitor future books, review back-catalog selections, apply filters and exclusions, and wait until release day before acquiring upcoming books.
• Transmission and Deluge: connect these torrent clients, map their download folders, and use them in download routes. Client capabilities are shown explicitly; seeding-copy rename remains qBittorrent-only.
• Request quotas: rolling book and size limits, pending-approval caps, installation/role/user policies, remaining-quota displays, and automatic requests that wait for capacity.
• Failed-download recovery: detect stalled or failed transfers, blocklist rejected releases, and try eligible replacements within the original request constraints and attempt limit. Requests show their attempt history, and users can report bad content.

Fixes and setup improvements

• Fix SABnzbd 5 connection tests, authenticate through POST form fields, resolve relative completion folders, and validate category settings. Track sanitized attempt names and look up completed history entries by job ID (#8, #16).
• Fix mounted-library probes when directory identities change after a rename. Settle SMB writer timestamps before recording the source identity, and allow bounded backend folder-visibility delays (#12, #13, #14).
• Fix setup probes on mounts whose open directory handles retain the old path after rename. Preserve copy fallback when hardlinks are unavailable, and report the failing operation and original filesystem error (#15).
• Improve Soulseek/slskd download-folder detection and mapping. Browse mounted folders directly and see clearer connection and folder status throughout settings (#17).
• Accept same-origin requests through the browser's direct address as well as the configured public URL, while retaining origin validation (#20).
• Add configurable direct fallback when a MyAnonamouse proxy fails. Review this setting if your installation requires all MAM traffic to use a proxy.
• Harden personal notification destinations against DNS changes and restrict Apprise's plugin transports to administrators.

Dewarr v0.2.3

Dewarr 0.2.3 fixes library folder setup on mounted and network-share libraries, keeps library sync going when some Audiobookshelf items can't be read, and combines audiobooks released in parts into one book.

0.2.2 was tagged but its container image was never published, so this release includes every 0.2.2 change as well.

New features

• Combine books released in parts. When every "(Part N of M)" item of an audiobook is in an Audiobookshelf library, Dewarr combines them into one Audiobookshelf book with a Disc N folder per part. The folder is named by your naming template. It's on by default and can be turned off in Metadata settings. The book page and Library review show each part set's status, with Combine and Separate buttons.
  • Dewarr won't combine a book that your connected Audiobookshelf account has started listening to, since combining would reset that progress. It also needs the library and staging folders on the same filesystem, because it uses hard links.
  • Separate undoes a combine and brings back the original part folders and items.
• Better Hardcover matching for library items. Dramatized and full-cast recordings, "(N of M)" parts, and items with unreadable years now match the right Hardcover book. Library review gains a Missing details tab and links to the most common problems.
• Requests are shown as status rows, and every page uses the same review tabs.
• Onboarding was tidied up: app logo, one way out, help next to each title, and cleaner Hardcover, folder, and reading-account steps.

Bug fixes

• Fix "No compatible folders found" and folder probe failures on mounted libraries (#4, #6):
  • Choosing a library folder now checks it against the container's real mounts. It reports a path missing from the container, a library folder mounted on its own, an unwritable staging folder, and libraries on different filesystems.
  • The staging folder now follows the chosen library folder instead of reusing the one saved from the first attempt, so fixing a mount takes effect.
  • Libraries on NFS and SMB shares pass the destination check and import.
  • Groups added with Compose group_add are kept when Dewarr drops root, so media shared through a group other than PGID stays readable.
  • Route test failures explain permission, missing-path, cross-filesystem, read-only, symlink and full-disk errors.
• Fix Audiobookshelf library sync failing with "Audiobookshelf item metadata or file evidence is incomplete" (#7). One unreadable item no longer fails the whole sync; items with bad metadata go to Library review for an admin.
• Say why Dewarr can't reach PostgreSQL at startup instead of blaming the host or password.
• In Settings → Logs, list activity now opens that list in Discover instead of the list overview, and an opened entry stays open after following its link and coming back.

Docker

Pull ghcr.io/logabell/dewarr:v0.2.3 (or latest) and recreate your Dewarr container. Images are available for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64.

This release adds three database migrations since 0.2.1. Back up PostgreSQL and the encryption key first. The container runs migrations on startup and won't start if one fails.

Dewarr 0.2.1 fixes the Audiobookshelf folder picker for libraries created before newer library settings were introduced.

Bug fixes

• Fix “No compatible folders found. Check the library settings” when connecting an older Audiobookshelf library. Missing saved settings now use Audiobookshelf’s defaults, so compatible libraries appear without having to edit and resave them in Audiobookshelf.
• Show the specific reason when an Audiobookshelf library or folder path cannot be used, instead of only a generic error.

Release reliability

• Run backend integration checks across four isolated shards and enforce time limits so a stalled test cannot hold up a release indefinitely.
• Validate database migrations explicitly and require application checks to pass before publishing a container.
