Card Studio
Card Studio is where you write a character. It is one page in chapters, with the character beside it, instead of a form of settings. Everything you write is saved in the same card file SillyTavern uses, so a card made here opens in stock SillyTavern and the other way round.
- To write a new character, choose Create character in the library.
- To change one you have, choose Edit card (the pencil) on its card in the library.
For the Sprites and Pictures parts of a card, see Sprites and Pictures.
The top of the page has:
- Simple and Advanced. Simple shows what most cards need. Advanced shows every field. Kotatsu remembers your choice.
- A token count, such as 163 tokens always in the story. Choose it to see what the card costs on every turn, what is sent once to open the chat, what is kept while there is room, and what only comes up when it is mentioned.
- The eye button, Hide spoilers. It blurs the description, the openings and the example lines, which helps when you stream or share your screen. Choose it again to show them.
- The Card menu: Export…, Duplicate, Use as a persona and Delete. Delete asks first and lets you keep or delete the chats.
- Done on an existing card, or Create character on a new one. An existing card saves as you type, and the page says Autosaves.
Under the top bar, a row of chapters follows you as you scroll. Choose a chapter to jump to it. The chapter names use the character's name, such as Who Hana is or How Hana talks.
Beside the chapters, the character stays in view. You can switch between the Sprite and the Card art, flip through the feelings with the arrows, and choose Replace card art (or Add card art). Below it are the Name (an existing card has Rename…, which moves its chats along), a Tagline that shows on the library card, and Tags. Tags are yours, in this library.
A strip near the top says what to write next, such as "Next: write the first message", with a Take me there button. It runs through the name, the description, the scenario, the first message, another opening, example lines, and any of the main nine faces that are missing. When everything is there, it says so.
Description and In a few words. Both travel with every message. Write them the way you would introduce the character to a friend. The short field is a back-cover blurb, not a second description.
- Where we are: the scenario. It is always in the story.
-
The first message: sent once, to open every new chat. It shows the way the chat will show it, in your theme and your message look, with the character's name and picture, and your own name and persona filled in where the text uses
{{char}}and{{user}}. Choose Edit to write in it, and Done editing when you are finished. The preview follows your typing. If the character has more than one opening, arrows flip between them. - Other openings: a new chat can begin in another way, and players swipe between the openings before they reply. Choose + Another opening to add one. A tile for each opening lets you look at it.
The sprites for the Sprite look, and the card's picture look. The Simple view shows large tiles you can page through and an easy way to fill the gaps. The Advanced view shows all 28 feelings, the framing and the picture look. See Sprites in Card Studio and LoRAs.
-
Example lines: kept while there is room. Begin each scene with
<START>. Two short scenes teach the voice better than a paragraph of rules. - In a group scene, Hana speaks up…: a Shy to Chatty slider, used only when the character shares a scene.
Lore that comes up when the chat mentions it. An entry costs tokens only on the turns it triggers. This chapter is in the Advanced view. In Simple, the chapter bar shows it greyed, tagged in Advanced.
The Lorebook button opens the linked lorebook. Import the card's own lore turns lore carried inside the card file into a lorebook and links it.
Also Advanced only. These are levers for people who steer the prompt, and all of them are optional. An empty one means your preset decides.
- Character's note, with Messages from the newest and Speaks as: read close to the newest message, so it never drifts far.
-
Main prompt, just for Hana: replaces your preset's main prompt for this character.
{{original}}inserts the preset's. -
A last word, after the chat: instructions that go after the history.
{{original}}inserts your preset's. - Pictures from the web in Hana's messages: your default, always, or never.
- Who you are with Hana: a persona that switches on with this character.
- Made by, Version and Notes for whoever gets the card. The notes are never sent to the model.
- Just for the current chat: a different scenario, example lines or main prompt in one chat, with the card untouched. Set overrides… opens it.
The Simple view never hides a setting that is steering the model. If the card has a character's note, a main prompt, post-history instructions or a linked lorebook, the page says Set in Advanced and steering the model, names them, and offers Show me.
