Beacon 1.4.1
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.4.1 is now available!
✨ New
- You can now pick a colour for value, volume, device card, CPU core, heading,
divider and clock blocks on Canvas pages. - Canvas pages now use a finer grid, so blocks can be made smaller and more of
them fit side by side.
🐛 Fixed
- Changing the metric of a gauge or value block now changes its title too.
- Resizing a block in the Canvas editor no longer makes it jump around or slide
off the edge of the page.
Beacon 1.4.0
A new major update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.4.0 is now available!
🖼️ Introducing Beacon Canvas!
- You can now build your own pages under Canvas in the sidebar and share
them with people who have no account. - Pages are made of blocks that you drag onto a grid, place anywhere and
resize: charts, big numbers, gauges, status, system info, uptime bars,
alerts, device cards, text and more. - Every metric from a device's Overview tab can go on a page, for one device,
as a total or average across several, or as one line per device. - Text blocks come with a full editor for headings, lists, links and colours,
and charts and gauges can take any colour you pick. - New pages can start from a template: a server overview, a status page or a
fleet wall for a TV.
🔗 Sharing
- Every page gets its own address and can be public, behind a secret link,
protected with a password or open to Beacon accounts only. - Other websites can embed a whole page or a single block, and value, gauge
and status blocks are also available as live badge images. - Published pages update live, fit any screen down to a phone, and change for
every visitor as soon as you publish again. - Visitors only ever receive what a page shows, never hostnames, addresses or
process lists.
Beacon 1.3.2
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.3.2 is now available!
✨ New
- You can now give a device any colour in its settings, with a colour picker,
a hex field and a copy button. - Adding a device now lets you pick its colour right away.
- The sidebar can now be collapsed to its icons with the button next to the
logo.
🔄 Changed
- The Updates tab now shows only the latest runs, and the full history opens in
a popup. - The process list is now sorted by clicking its column headers instead of the
By CPU and By memory buttons. - Pausing the process list now stops it completely until you switch it back to
live.
Beacon 1.3.1
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.3.1 is now available!
🐛 Fixed
- The Updates tab could ask to restart a Linux device that did not need one.
- Fixed some layout flaws on the Overview tab that left gaps between the
panels.
🔄 Changed
- Opening more charts on the Overview tab now keeps the panel in its own column
instead of stretching it across the page. - The restart notice in the Updates tab now says why a restart is needed, such
as a newly installed kernel.
Beacon 1.3.0
A new major update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.3.0 is now available!
✨ New
- Every device now has an Updates tab where you can check for and install
Windows, macOS and Linux updates and restart the device. - Running updates show their live progress and log, and every run is kept in a
history with its outcome. - The CPU chart now offers the load average, a per core heatmap, user and
system time and the clock speed. - Disks now show their busy time, reads and writes per second, temperature and
the space used over time. - You can now pick a single network interface, see how much was transferred in
the selected range and follow the latency to the hub. - GPUs now show their temperature and power draw.
- The battery chart now shows when the device was charging, along with the
battery health and charge cycles. - You can now follow the process count and your containers' CPU and memory over
time. - The Overview tab has new Network, GPU and Temperature tiles.
🐛 Fixed
- The popup when hovering over a chart no longer covers the line and now moves
smoothly between points.
🔄 Changed
- Revamped the Overview tab of a device, with further charts opening from a
button under each chart.
Beacon 1.2.3
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.2.3 is now available!
🐛 Fixed
- Fixed a bug where an alert stayed active forever when its rule was edited
while it was firing. - Fixed some design flaws regarding the scrolling and the edges around the
dropdown arrow.
🔄 Changed
- A device that has gone offline now greys out in the device list.
Beacon 1.2.2
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.2.2 is now available!
✨ New
- Disk activity is now charted per drive, with a dropdown to choose one on a
machine that has more than one. - The Volumes panel groups each filesystem under the drive it sits on, together
with that drive's size, type and temperature. - The overview list has GPU and Battery columns.
🐛 Fixed
- Windows devices now show Disk activity, which never appeared on them before.
- Onboard graphics now report the memory they have borrowed from the system,
where the GPU panel showed them using none at all. - An alert now counts up while it is active and says how long it ran for once it
is resolved, instead of freezing the duration at the moment it fired. - The overview list scrolls sideways on a narrower screen instead of dropping
columns off the right with no way to reach them, and the button that opens a
device's charts stays in reach while you scroll. - A device's Disk tile counted firmware partitions, and counted a filesystem
mounted at two paths twice, which made a machine look fuller than it is.
🔄 Changed
- Firmware and other system filesystems are left out of the Volumes panel. A
switch in the device's Panels settings brings them back.
Beacon 1.2.1
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.2.1 is now available!
✨ New
- A device with more than one GPU now lets you choose which card the GPU usage
chart draws, and the dashboard remembers the card you picked. - The Panels tab in a device's settings can now hide a GPU, the same way it
already hides a volume or a network interface. - The Alerts page now groups rules under the device they belong to and filters them by
what they measure.
🐛 Fixed
- The GPU usage panel was missing on devices that have a graphics card, and drew
an empty chart where it did appear. It now shows how hard the card is working
and how much of its memory is in use. - Changing the size units in Settings did not change the numbers on the charts
on the Overview page. - The database size on the Settings page and the thresholds in the alert rule
summaries stayed in binary units whichever size units you had chosen.
Beacon 1.2.0
A new major update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.2.0 is now available!
updating your Windows agents, make sure to restart the device once so the agent
starts to report again. This is not needed for future updates anymore.
✨ New
- Every alert rule now has a Test button that sends a test alert through your
notification channels. - The sidebar now shows unacknowledged and unread alerts by turning red, pulsing
or showing the unread count. - Alerts sent to ntfy, Discord and webhooks now link straight to the device that
raised them. - You can now edit a notification channel instead of deleting it and adding it
again. - Removing an enrollment token now asks you to confirm.
🐛 Fixed
- When updating the agent on a Windows device, it now restarts itself instead of
staying offline until someone restarts the machine. - ntfy channels refused every alert with an error about a character that could
not be sent. - Enrollment tokens stayed in the list long after they had expired.
- The headings on the Users page did not line up with the columns under them.
🔄 Changed
- Alerts now say what happened in plain words, such as "PC is back online"
instead of "Device offline on PC recovered (0s)". - Revamped a device's Settings tab with a danger zone and repositioned buttons.
- Added a description to every setting that was unclear.
Beacon 1.1.2
A new minor update for Beacon just dropped. Version 1.1.2 is now available!
✨ New
- Devices whose agent has an update available now show a blue arrow next to
their name in the device list. - The command for updating the hub now has a copy button, in Settings and in the
new version popup. - On phones, the device list now shows network, temperature, uptime and agent
version for every device, and can be sorted by every column.
🐛 Fixed
- Pressing Check now in Settings could show the check as several minutes old
when the hub's clock was off.
🔄 Changed
- The device list no longer has a Status column. A green or red dot next to each
device's name shows whether it is online. - A device's colour now shows as a bar along the left of its row instead of a
dot. - The sort arrows in the device list header are now always visible.
- On phones, the sort buttons now sit in a slim row at the top of the device
list, like the column headers on a computer. - The dashboard no longer checks for a new version every time an admin opens it.
The hub checks every six hours and when an admin signs in, and Check now in
Settings checks right away.
