Fixes
- Protect existing archives and split volumes when compression is cancelled or fails. Each job now stages its own output before publishing it without overwriting existing files.
- Handle selected filenames containing wildcard characters, leading
@, or leading-literally. macOS metadata exclusions are preserved. - Preserve download quarantine on extracted content, including application bundles, without following archive-provided symbolic links.
- Extract both layers of compressed TAR archives, return the actual first volume for split ZIP/7Z archives, and avoid treating folders named
.zipor.7zas archives. - Clear cancelled preview state when switching to a new selection.
Native macOS behavior
- Remove narrow, hard-coded maximum column widths that stopped divider resizing.
- Use AppKit's first-column-only window resizing and native overflow behavior. The name column stays first; other columns can be reordered.
- Restore saved column widths/order after the table has been fully configured, including repair of older layouts with a displaced name column.
- Use non-blocking native open panels and file-URL-based Finder Services.
Universal Intel and Apple Silicon binaries; minimum macOS 14.
Install
Download CleanZip-2.6.36.pkg below. It installs the app at /Applications/CleanZip.app and the Finder service at /Library/Services/CleanZipService.service.
This public build is ad-hoc signed, not Apple-notarized. Only proceed when you trust this repository and the downloaded package:
- Try opening the PKG once, then dismiss the macOS warning.
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- In the Security section, choose Open Anyway for CleanZip.
- Authenticate and confirm Open.
On newer macOS versions, Finder's right-click Open can show the same warning for a PKG; use Privacy & Security > Open Anyway instead. No system-wide security setting needs to be disabled.
The ZIP asset is available for manual installation. Use SHA256SUMS.txt to verify downloads.
