Getting Started
everwrite is one folder, skills/everwrite, holding SKILL.md, a references/ page of examples and the checker in scripts/. Each install route below puts that folder where an agent looks for skills. The checker needs Python 3.9 or later and nothing else.
- An agent that reads
SKILL.mdskills: Claude Code, GitHub Copilot (VS Code and CLI), Codex, Cursor and others. - Python 3.9 or later on the PATH, as
pythonorpython3. The examples on this wiki ran on Windows 11 with Python 3.14.6 and 3.9.25, and printed the same output on both. macOS and Linux were not tested here; the repository's CI runs the self-test on Ubuntu, macOS and Windows with Python 3.9 and 3.13. - No packages, no network and no account. The checker reads only the files you name.
Type these in a Claude Code session:
/plugin marketplace add m4bwav/everwrite
/plugin install everwrite@everwrite
The marketplace and the plugin are both named everwrite, as .claude-plugin/marketplace.json declares, so the install name is everwrite@everwrite. The same two steps from a terminal, run on 2026-10-03 with Claude Code 2.1.281 in an empty config folder (the last lines of each command's output):
$ claude plugin marketplace add https://github.com/m4bwav/everwrite.git
Clone complete, validating marketplace…
Cleaning up old marketplace cache…
✔ Successfully added marketplace: everwrite (declared in user settings)
$ claude plugin install everwrite@everwrite
Installing plugin "everwrite@everwrite"...✔ Successfully installed plugin: everwrite@everwrite (scope: user)
$ claude plugin list
❯ everwrite@everwrite
Version: 1.0.0
Scope: user
Status: ✔ enabledThat run used the HTTPS URL because the short form m4bwav/everwrite cloned over SSH on that machine and failed. The FAQ has the error and the fix.
everwrite has been submitted to Anthropic's Claude plugin directory and is waiting for review. Once listed, it can be installed from the directory like any other plugin, without adding the marketplace first. Until then, use the marketplace route above.
Clone the repository and copy (or link) skills/everwrite into the agent's skills folder:
git clone https://github.com/m4bwav/everwrite.git
cp -r everwrite/skills/everwrite ~/.copilot/skills/everwriteThe README names three such folders: ~/.claude/skills/everwrite, ~/.agents/skills/everwrite and ~/.copilot/skills/everwrite. Use the one your agent reads. A link instead of a copy picks up a git pull without copying again. Loading the skill in Copilot, Codex and Cursor was not tested for this wiki. For a hosted skill store, zip the skills/everwrite folder and upload it.
GitHub CLI 2.90 and later have a gh skill command group, still in preview. Run gh skill install m4bwav/everwrite and pick the skill and your agent at the prompts. Without a terminal to prompt in, name the skill:
gh skill install m4bwav/everwrite everwrite --agent github-copilot --scope userOn 2026-10-03, gh 2.100.0 installed the skill into a scratch folder with --dir and printed ✓ Installed everwrite (from m4bwav/everwrite@master). The --agent and --scope form above was not run. gh adds a metadata block to the frontmatter of the installed SKILL.md (the repository, path, ref and tree SHA), which gh skill update uses to find newer versions. The other files are copied unchanged.
Any install leaves the checker at scripts/tells.py inside the skill folder. From a clone of the repository:
$ python skills/everwrite/scripts/tells.py --list | head -3
Rules (category, severity, hint):
dash strong use a period, comma, colon or parentheses
dash strong use a period, comma, colon or parenthesesUse python3 where python is missing. Then ask the agent for something to read, such as release notes for your last change, and it will run the checker on its draft. How the skill works says when the skill loads.
- Claude Code:
/plugin uninstall everwrite@everwrite, and/plugin marketplace remove everwriteto drop the marketplace (not tested). - A copied or linked folder: delete it.
- gh: delete the folder it installed into (not tested).
