Versions and Upgrading

m4bwav edited this page Oct 4, 2026 · 1 revision

everwrite has one published version number, 1.0.0, set in .claude-plugin/plugin.json on 2026-09-25. There are no git tags or GitHub releases. Changes since then went to master without a new number, so an install made on 2026-09-25 and one made on 2026-10-03 both report 1.0.0 and behave differently. The skill's own skills/everwrite/CHANGELOG.md records each change with its reason.

What changed on master after 1.0.0

Date Change (changelog entry) What a user notices
2026-09-25 The change note after an edit is one sentence (C-20260925-7) The agent's note on what it changed is shorter.
2026-09-30 Watermarks section; invisible characters (C-20260928-1, written 2026-09-28) New hidden-char (strong) and odd-space (weak) hits on every line, code included, and the --fix-hidden option. The skill says it does not remove provider watermarks.
2026-09-30 The same thing twice in a row (C-20260930-1) New strong repeated-heading and repeated-text hits, and the --wiki option.
2026-10-03 Directory listing details An icon, a Privacy section in the README, and documentation, support and privacy links in plugin.json. No change to the skill or the checker.

A file that passed the 1.0.0 checker can fail today if it holds an invisible character or repeats a heading or paragraph. Nothing that was flagged in 1.0.0 stopped being flagged.

Updating each kind of install

  • Claude Code plugin: /plugin marketplace update everwrite, then update the plugin from /plugin. Since the version number has not changed, check the plugin's files rather than the number to see whether the update arrived (not tested).
  • A linked folder: git pull in the clone.
  • A copied folder: git pull, then copy skills/everwrite over the old copy.
  • gh: gh skill update everwrite. gh compares the tree SHA it stored in the installed SKILL.md with the repository's, so it sees changes without a new version number (from gh skill update --help; not run).

Local edits to an installed copy are lost on update. The skill asks agents to make its own fixes in the source repository for that reason.

Version history

Version Date Notes
1.0.0 2026-09-25 First public release, with the checker, its self-test, the eval suite and CI.

Before it was published, the skill existed as a single-file skill called write-human (created 2026-08-21) in a hosted skill store. It was renamed everwrite on 2026-09-25. Nothing of write-human was published, so there is nothing to upgrade from.
