What's new

The headline change: 02-build-resolute.sh now defaults to BRANCH=current (mainline ~6.18 kernel) instead of BRANCH=vendor, which gives working Mali-G610 GPU acceleration via the panthor + Mesa panvk drivers.

This lands the recommendations from issue #1 — specifically:

  • Default branch flipped to current.
  • README has a new GPU acceleration / kernel branch choice section explaining the tradeoffs and known limits (OpenGL Core capped at 3.1 in Mesa 26.0.3 panthor; OpenGL ES 3.1 + Vulkan 1.4 work).
  • New troubleshooting entry pointing users at this if they end up on llvmpipe.
  • Bonus: current-branch builds usually pull a prebuilt kernel deb from Armbian's ghcr.io cache, so the resolute build drops from 4-6 h to ~8-15 min total.

Asset summary

File What it is
Armbian-unofficial_..._resolute_current_6.18.26_minimal.img.xz Recommended — Ubuntu 26.04 with mainline kernel + working GPU acceleration
Armbian-unofficial_..._resolute_current_6.18.26_minimal.img.xz.sha SHA-256 of the resolute image
Older vendor-kernel images from v1.0.0 Still available on the v1.0.0 release page if you specifically need vendor BSP (NPU access, vendor MPP video accel)

Flash the resolute image with balenaEtcher (the only writer that's reliably worked through this whole project). Insert microSD into the OPi 5 Pro and power-cycle.

Verified state

  • Kernel: 6.18.26-current-rockchip64
  • Mesa: 26.0.3
  • Panthor 1.5.0 binds to Mali-G610 (fb000000.gpu)
  • EGL/Wayland renderer: Mali-G610 MC4 (Panfrost)
  • Vulkan: real panvk HW driver + llvmpipe fallback, API 1.4.335
  • KWin Wayland with XWayland — Plasma session HW-accelerated
  • All three patches (uutils deploy, restore, rk3588 boot-delay) verified in the resulting image

Known limits

  • OpenGL Core profile maxes out at 3.1 — Mesa's panthor driver still maturing toward 4.x.
  • HW video decode (rkvdec2) not yet validated end-to-end in this release.
  • 5 Pro is community-tier (CSC) in Armbian — no upstream maintainer.

See issue #1 for full diagnosis.
