8-step walkthrough

A simple walkthrough, from picking a song to Export.

1. Your First Obstacle

  1. Pick Star Fever from the music picker at the top.
  2. Select Start blank from the list of options.
  3. Click Beat 9 on the beat grid.
  4. Click Add Obstacle, then from the right panel choose Type: Bullet.
  5. Select the first tile on the grid, set Direction to Down, then click Save.
  6. Check Game Preview at the bottom of the UI. It will show the warning indicator for Bullet on Beat 9, then the obstacle on Beat 10.

2. Your First Obstacle Template

There are numerous templates that can generate 'sets' of obstacles automatically as well.

  1. Click Beat 9 on the beat grid.
  2. Select the Bullet we created above.
  3. Click Delete on the right sidebar.
  4. Click Add Obstacle, then from the right panel choose Type: T-Cascadefire.
  5. Set Direction to Down, then click Save.
  6. Check Game Preview. It will show an automatically generated row of bullets where each bullet appears once every 2 beats.

Tip: You can always press Play beneath the music picker to listen to the music with Game Preview.

3. Your First Fever Time

Using Select, you can designate areas of the music to trigger Fever Time.

  1. Click Beat 17.
  2. Click Select beneath the music picker.
  3. Oops, that's the wrong beat. Press Esc, or click Reset Start Point on the right sidebar.
  4. Click Beat 33, then click Select again.
  5. Click Beat 56, then click Set Range.
  6. On the right sidebar, select Fever Time, then click Set.
  7. Let's trim it: click Beat 49, then click Select. Click Beat 56, then click Set Range. Select Fever Time from the sidebar menu again.
  8. Click Remove.

4. Your First Countdown Obstacle

  1. Click Beat 17.
  2. Click Add Obstacle, then from the right panel choose Type: Line.
  3. Add a Horizontal Line on the 2nd row, then click Save.
  4. Note that the Line obstacle's warning indicator appears on the beat we selected.
  5. Every obstacle's default is warning indicator first, then obstacle. As a result, the actual obstacle appears on the beat it was added to, plus its Countdown value. In our example, the Line obstacle has a Countdown of 2, so it appears on Beat 19.

5. Your First Anchor Mode

While it is recommended to design your chart around warning indicators and their Countdown values, it might not align with your workflow. To handle this, we have Anchor mode.

  1. Click Anchor next to Select.
  2. Anchor mode makes it so the beat you select to add the obstacle is the beat the obstacle appears.
  3. Click Beat 23 and add another Horizontal Line on the 4th row, then click Save.
  4. For the purpose of the walkthrough, let's turn off Anchor mode for now by clicking Anchor again.

6. Your First Charge and Rush Drive

Charge Drive and Rush Drive can be added just like any other obstacle. The only difference is that they have a Duration value that defines how long they last.

  1. Click Beat 21, then click Add Obstacle.
  2. Choose Type: Charge Drive, do not change anything, then click Save.
  3. Click Beat 25, then click Add Obstacle.
  4. Choose Type: Rush Drive, do not change anything, then click Save.

7. Your First Repeat

There will be times when you might want to 'repeat' a section of a chart that you've created.

  1. Click Beat 9, then click Select.
  2. Click Beat 25, then click Set Range.
  3. Click Beat 33, then on the right sidebar, scroll down to Repeat and click it.
  4. Click Add Repeat.
  5. You can also add other obstacles or templates on top of a repeated range to add variety.

8. Your First Test

Lastly, it's time to test your custom chart.

  1. Click the big Test button at the bottom of the Creator to play the game. Once you're happy, click × to close the Test window.
  2. To export, click Export Chart.
  3. The file name of the chart is the Title of the custom chart that will appear in the UI, so choose carefully.
  4. Use Export Chart to share or back up your custom chart. Charts can always be opened again in the Creator.

What to do next

A small sequence of obstacles is not really a complete chart. Add more, spread across the song, and keep testing as you go! Browse the wiki to learn more about the Creator tool in detail.
