How you can help MapSwipe
Aside from using the app... What follows assumes you're familiar enough with the app, so you've probably used it for about an hour or more. If not, we suggest you take some time to map a few more sessions, so you have a better understanding of what it's about.
MapSwipe is built and maintained by a small team of volunteers, and there is always more work than we can deal with. If you like what we're doing and feel like doing a bit more than mapping, here are a few ideas, depending on how much time you have.
In any case, it's probably a good idea to join our Slack group where we coordinate our work. Just join, say hi and tell us a little bit about yourself, and that you're looking to help out.
The list below is by no means comprehensive, if you have any other ideas, let us know on Slack, and we can figure out the best way to do it with you.
We are constantly improving the app, and testing the latest and greatest on variety of phones is the best way to make sure that the next release will work for most of our users. This page explains how to do it.
This can be done in small increments, you only need a few minutes to get started. This page tells you how to do it.
Write a blog post, share your thoughts on the project on your favourite social network, record a short video explaining how you use the app...
This presentation has some extra information to give you some background on the bigger goals of MapSwipe, and how to get started.
Help us manage the info@mapswipe.org inbox
Yes, we just told you to write to it, but we do need help with replying to emails, as we get quite a lot of them. This is a great way to get to know the project, the team and plenty of other stuff. Just ping us on Slack if you're interested.
If you can write code in Javascript or python, you can probably help with the issues listed under the app repo or the backend repo.
We do not have the capacity to do this properly, unfortunately, in part because MapSwipe is not a legal entity, but mostly because we're very short of time. You might want to check with MissingMaps as they might be able to take on volunteers in a more formal manner.
