ChatGPT
The extra’s second tab lists the same accounts as Codex CLI. It is called Codex until you turn on desktop switching; a click there switches Codex CLI. With switching on it is the ChatGPT tab described here. Usage bars are Codex usage, not ChatGPT message limits. Switching the ChatGPT app is experimental: OpenSwap quits ChatGPT, swaps the shared login, and relaunches it. You must check Chat, Work, and Codex yourself. Unattended desktop rotation is not implemented.
Desktop switching is off by default.
- Settings → Automation → Enable ChatGPT switching
- Open the ChatGPT tab (it was the Codex tab) and wait until the extra is ready
- Click an OAuth account and confirm
While switching is off, a click offers Enable in Settings. Cards stay visible; add, disable, and remove still work. API-key cards are CLI-only and cannot start a desktop switch.
OpenSwap checks the signed ChatGPT app and its bundled Codex backend. A routine signed update can still switch when that check passes. It does not pin one app version.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Checking ChatGPT… | Probe in progress |
| ChatGPT isn’t installed. | No ChatGPT app |
| ChatGPT switching isn’t available on this Mac. | This Mac cannot switch |
| This ChatGPT build isn’t compatible with switching. | Known-incompatible build |
| ChatGPT couldn’t be verified. | Signature check failed |
| This Codex configuration isn’t supported for switching. | Login storage is not the supported file-backed setup |
| Switch and open ChatGPT | App is stopped; confirm to switch and launch |
| Restart ChatGPT | App is running; confirm to quit, switch, and relaunch |
After ChatGPT reopens, check its profile menu and start a new Chat, Work, and Codex task. OpenSwap does not verify which account the app actually loaded.
Suggest ChatGPT account switches (the ChatGPT tab Auto-switch) is a separate setting. It stays disabled until Enable ChatGPT switching is on. When both are on, OpenSwap picks a replacement from Codex quota, then Review switch — you still confirm before ChatGPT restarts.
That mode cannot run with live Codex CLI rotation. Turn suggestions off to auto-rotate Codex CLI.
Add account on the Codex / ChatGPT tab, or Sign in with ChatGPT on an empty tab. Sign in through your browser, review the account, then Save account. That session is separate: it does not log out or replace your current login. Copy link uses another browser profile; Use a code is device sign-in where enabled. Save current login captures an existing Codex login.
New accounts are enabled when saved. They can be suggested for a confirmed ChatGPT restart, or used by Codex CLI auto-switch — not both at once.
The CLI is not gated by the extra’s Enable ChatGPT switching toggle.
