First preview of Things MCP for macOS. Ten tools connect a conversation to Things 3 through supported local automation.

Create and find tasks, edit titles and notes, set deadlines, schedule dates, move items to supported lists or parents, and complete or reopen tasks. Areas and tags can be created and renamed. Individual to-do Trash requires a separate permission. New installations start read-only.

Install and use

Download the .mcpb asset and open it with a supported desktop extension host. The host supplies the runtime. The .sha256 file records the archive checksum. GitHub's source ZIP is for developers and does not install the extension.

Limits and validation

Browser access requires an eligible account and an optional private tunnel. First-time tunnel installation requires developer tools. The Mac must remain awake, online, signed in, and running Things.

Project Anytime and direct Logbook moves are excluded after failed native verification. Full checklists, headings, repeat-rule editing, tag assignment, container deletion, permanent deletion, and general undo are not included. Some are supported by Things but remain outside this server. The full-scope guide explains each reason.

Validation includes 42 synthetic tests, typecheck, lint, build, stdio and packaged-extension checks, live packaged health, and 41 successful individual native mutations with read-back on Things 3.23.4. The dependency audit found no vulnerabilities. Fresh-Mac consent, sleep/wake, populated-project cascades, and every MCP host are not verified. See the verification record.
