Things MCP 1.0.2

This maintenance release brings the documentation, capability descriptions and maintained wiki up to date with the shipped twenty-tool server. Mutation behavior is unchanged from 1.0.1.

• Updated architecture, permissions, setup, capability inventory, limits and release procedures in the maintainer wiki.
• Clarified populated-project move verification, supported restoration, unavailable permanent deletion and optional remote access.
• Made remote permission labels client-neutral. Existing setting keys, defaults and grants are preserved.
• Updated the README, roadmap, full-scope reference and repository description.

Project moves continue to return descendant counts and observed field changes. Counts include every task returned by successful reads; the detail list contains up to twenty changed task IDs. Unchanged exposed fields do not establish that inherited effects were unchanged. See project move results.

Validation passed: 82 tests, typecheck, lint, builds, stdio and packaged-extension checks, native health, dependency audit with zero vulnerabilities, wiki validation and documentation links. Secret scans covered source, reachable history, the new package and all four previously published extension assets. Verification separates this run from the earlier live mutation evidence and remaining environment limits.

To install or update:

1. Download things-mcp-1.0.2.mcpb and its checksum below.
2. Keep Things running and use your desktop client's native extension installer. New installations start read-only.
3. For the optional browser connection, update the local runtime and reinstall the existing tunnel using the connection guide. Updating the extension alone does not update the tunnel runtime.
4. Refresh stale tool catalogues and start a new conversation for a health check.

Things MCP 1.0.1

Project moves now report the tasks beneath the project in the same receipt. Version 1.0.0 returned only the project move receipt.

• descendantImpact includes before/after task counts and compared, changed and unchanged counts.
• Changed-task details include up to 20 IDs and field names. Counts cover every task returned by successful native reads, including logged children.
• Saved request status and replay retain the summary without another move.
• The summary distinguishes unchanged exposed fields from inherited effects that Things does not expose.

The release passed 82 tests, build/package checks, native project-move checks with open and completed children, connected MCP receipt verification and secret scans. Verification details record the exact coverage and environment limits.

To update the local extension, download things-mcp-1.0.1.mcpb and open it in the client's native extension installer. For the optional browser connection, update the checkout and local runtime, then reinstall the existing tunnel as described in ChatGPT setup. Installation and project move results explain setup and receipt fields.

Things 3 on macOS is required. Native repeat-rule editing and complete checklist/heading read-back remain unavailable. Descendant summaries describe exposed task fields, and do not certify every inherited effect. Large native reads can still exceed time or output limits.

Things MCP 1.0

Things MCP 1.0 connects compatible MCP clients to Things 3 on your Mac through supported automation. It provides twenty tools and is free under the MIT license.

What's new

• Richer task, project, area and tag editing, including tag assignment/hierarchy, supported timestamps, text increments and populated-project verification.
• Checklist creation, replacement, clearing, append and prepend; project templates with headings; heading placement; reminder and Evening scheduling; task and project duplication.
• Selection, counts, existence checks, date/tag filters and resumable searches beyond 5,000 objects.
• Open-item restoration and separately authorized project, area and tag deletion with scope previews.
• Updated installation and daily-use guides, shared permissions across clients, and a standalone installed tunnel launcher.

Install or update

1. Download things-mcp-1.0.0.mcpb below. The .sha256 file provides its checksum.
2. Open Things, then install the package through your desktop client's extension installer. New installations start read-only. Enable ordinary changes in the extension settings when ready.
3. Start a new conversation and request a health check. If an updated client only loads some tools, disable/re-enable the extension and start a new conversation.
4. For checklist/reminder edits and duplication, follow the one-time Things URL setup. Tokens stay in your Mac's Keychain.
5. For browser ChatGPT or its desktop plugin, follow tunnel setup and update. First-time browser setup currently requires developer commands and an eligible account. The Mac must remain awake, online and signed in.

Verification and limits

75 automated tests passed, alongside typechecking, lint, builds, package checksum/extraction/discovery/read-only/restart checks, native health and dependency audit. The audit reported zero vulnerabilities. Native fixture tests covered the new operations. Both the native desktop client and browser Chat passed create/read/edit/read; Work and the desktop plugin passed health checks. Source, reachable history and the extracted release package passed secret scans.

URL tools explicitly report “Sent to Things; result not verified.” Their receipts confirm dispatch, because Things does not expose complete checklist, heading or reminder read-back. They do not return newly created IDs. Inspect Things before another change and never retry an uncertain write with a new ID.

Native repeat-rule editing, individual existing checklist-row editing by ID and in-place heading editing are not exposed. Whole-library maintenance and native operations that failed verification remain disabled. Fresh-account macOS consent, physical sleep/wake and actual logout/login are not certified. Things MCP 0.83 is an early release, distributed as package version 0.83.0.

Typecheck, lint, all 42 tests, runtime and extension builds, smoke checks, extracted-package native health, and dependency audit passed. Things MCP 0.1.0 preview

First preview of Things MCP for macOS. Ten tools connect a conversation to Things 3 through supported local automation.

Create and find tasks, edit titles and notes, set deadlines, schedule dates, move items to supported lists or parents, and complete or reopen tasks. Areas and tags can be created and renamed. Individual to-do Trash requires a separate permission. New installations start read-only.

Install and use

Download the .mcpb asset and open it with a supported desktop extension host. The host supplies the runtime. The .sha256 file records the archive checksum. GitHub's source ZIP is for developers and does not install the extension.

Limits and validation

Browser access requires an eligible account and an optional private tunnel. First-time tunnel installation requires developer tools. The Mac must remain awake, online, signed in, and running Things.

Project Anytime and direct Logbook moves are excluded after failed native verification. Full checklists, headings, repeat-rule editing, tag assignment, container deletion, permanent deletion, and general undo are not included. Some are supported by Things but remain outside this server. The full-scope guide explains each reason.

Validation includes 42 synthetic tests, typecheck, lint, build, stdio and packaged-extension checks, live packaged health, and 41 successful individual native mutations with read-back on Things 3.23.4. The dependency audit found no vulnerabilities. Fresh-Mac consent, sleep/wake, populated-project cascades, and every MCP host are not verified. See the verification record.
