Rectangle 0.99 + halves preserve the other axis, build 111 (unofficial test build)
Pre-releaseUnofficial test build of Rectangle 0.99 (upstream 64a9186) plus the two commits from rxhanson#1824 and one extra commit (629690d, branch halves-center-third): an opt-in mode in which Left/Right/Top/Bottom Half only change their own axis and keep the window's size on the other one — Windows / KDE style keyboard tiling: Left Half then Top Half lands in the top left quarter, Bottom Half from there expands back to Left Half, Right Half then Left Half fills the screen.
Build 111 supersedes build 109 (v0.99-halvesPreserveOtherAxis-b109; build 110 was the same code re-signed). New in 111, not part of rxhanson#1824 yet: windows can tile in three columns. When a window is docked to an edge at exactly two thirds of the screen, the action for the opposite edge now shrinks it to the middle third instead of filling the screen — Left Half, Left Half, Right Half parks the window in the center column, and Right Half again docks it to the right edge where the usual cycling takes over. Any other width (½, ⅓, ¾) still expands as before. Top/Bottom Half keep a center column (⅓ wide × ½ high) like any other column, and windows placed with the built-in Center Third action count as a center column too. The same applies to rows.
The feature is off by default. After installing, enable it in Settings → General → Extras button → bottom of the popover: Half actions preserve the window's size on the other axis, or:
defaults write com.knollsoft.Rectangle halvesPreserveOtherAxisSize -bool true
Untiled windows and repeated executions of a plain half behave exactly as in the official app.
Build notes
Rectangle-0.99-halvesPreserveOtherAxis-b111.dmg— Apple silicon only (arm64), build 111, signed with my Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Not an official Rectangle release.- Because the signature differs from the official app, macOS may ask you to grant Accessibility permission again (if the checkbox in System Settings won't stick:
tccutil reset Accessibility com.knollsoft.Rectangle, then re-enable it). - Sparkle still points at the official update feed: once an official release with a higher build number ships, you will be offered that update, which removes this feature.
