v0.6.0 - BrowserThing

The project is now BrowserThing (previously playwright-distributed).

New releases use these container images:

ghcr.io/mbroton/browserthing/server:0.6.0
ghcr.io/mbroton/browserthing/worker:0.6.0

Both images also have a latest tag and support linux/amd64 and linux/arm64. Existing images under ghcr.io/mbroton/playwright-distributed/ remain available, but that namespace will receive no new releases.

Update image references in existing deployments. Keep your .env file and Compose project name to continue using the same database volume. Database names, API key formats, and worker headers are unchanged. Playwright stays at 1.63.0.

Upgrade notes

• The worker image now uses Playwright 1.63.0. Update clients to 1.63.x before connecting to these workers. Clients on another minor version need workers with that version.
• pgx 5.11 follows PostgreSQL's connection URI rules: encode spaces in query values as %20. A + is now a literal plus sign. The documented database URLs need no change.
• No environment variables or application database migrations changed.

Changes

• Update the Playwright worker, benchmark client, and browser image together to 1.63.0 (#121, includes #119).
• Update pgx to 5.11.0 and correct the scheduler test's connection URI encoding (#120).
• Update goose to 3.28.0 (#118).
• Add the guide for workers on multiple machines (#117).
• Check that release images match the images deployed by Docker Compose (#116).

Verification

Worker tests, TypeScript checks, Playwright version checks, server tests with race detection, generated-code checks, server vulnerability checks, Docker builds, and Chromium/Firefox/WebKit integration tests passed. The release workflow also checks both image architectures and smoke-tests the deployment before publishing.

v0.3.0

This maintenance release hardens the documented deployment and updates all dependencies. Two changes are important for existing users:

• Deployment defaults changed: the Compose files now bind the proxy to 127.0.0.1, and workers run as a non-root user with a seccomp profile (#93). Review your deployment if you exposed the proxy differently.

• Playwright is now 1.62.1: remote clients must use a matching Playwright version to connect.
