Work Day with God for Android 1.0.1

Android 1.0.1 is a focused reading-interface update for Work Day with God. It remains completely free, Christ-centred, offline-first, account-free, and device-local.

This Android release is separate from Windows 1.4.3 and does not replace Windows as the repository's Latest release.

  • Work-Day-with-God-Android-1.0.1.apk — signed APK for Android 7.0 and newer
  • Work-Day-with-God-Android-1.0.1.apk.sha256 — SHA-256 checksum sidecar
  • APK SHA-256: 7E45BC5EE1FE85EEA72B018F3FA38CA6913EA11D69AB8E287D2447E55F43A45F

The APK uses the same dedicated Work Day with God Android signing identity as Android 1.0.0, allowing it to update the existing installation while preserving device-local settings, favourites, completion history, and reading positions.

Reading-interface enhancements

  • The devotional header now uses a compact title area and menu so the reflection receives substantially more of the screen.
  • Completion, favourite, full-chapter, text-size, auto-scroll, restart, adjacent-reading, Verse Card, and reading-settings controls are consolidated inside the devotional menu.
  • Today, Future, and History remain in the main navigation instead of being duplicated in the menu.
  • Devotional reading mode hides navigation and surrounding controls so the reflection can use the full phone screen.
  • The Verse Card clock is larger, centered within the right side of the header, and positioned for a more balanced layout.
  • The Work Day with God wordmark is larger and clearer on Android phones.
  • Reader spacing, touch targets, safe-area behavior, typography, and menu contrast were refined for phone-sized displays.

Privacy and compatibility

  • No account, subscription, advertising, analytics, cloud database, or background content download was added.
  • Existing Android 1.0.0 installations can be updated directly with the signed 1.0.1 APK.
  • Personal reading activity remains in private application storage unless the user explicitly exports a backup.
  • Uninstalling removes private local state; install this update over the current app to preserve it.

Verification completed

  • All 42 Android-release source tests passed.
  • Vite production compilation and Capacitor Android synchronization passed.
  • Signed Gradle release assembly passed.
  • APK zip alignment and APK Signature Scheme v2 verification passed.
  • The signing certificate matches the Android 1.0.0 release identity.
  • Production dependency audit reported zero known runtime vulnerabilities.
  • The updated layout was installed and visually checked on a physical Samsung SM-G781W running Android 13.

This APK is distributed directly through GitHub, not Google Play. Android may ask you to allow Install unknown apps for the browser or file manager used to open it. The APK is signed with Work Day with God’s dedicated private Android release key so future official APKs can update the same installation.

Highlights

  • Complete offline catalogue of 366 Christ-centred devotionals, including February 29
  • Nine bundled historical Bible translations and full-chapter reading
  • Responsive, touch-first Verse Card, devotional reader, Settings, History, and Future Devotionals screens
  • Device-local favourites, completed readings, streaks, reading positions, appearance, and reminder preferences
  • JSON backup export through Android’s share sheet and restore through Android’s file picker
  • Automatic sunrise-to-sunset appearance using optional approximate location, with an offline local-time fallback
  • Branded Android launcher icon, adaptive icon, splash screen, notification icon, status bar, safe-area layout, and system back-button behavior
  • No account, subscription, advertising, analytics, cloud database, or background content download

Android reminder system

  • Daily reading: Scheduled at one or more selected local times and opens today’s full devotional.
  • Remind me later: Requested from the Verse Card in 10-minute increments from 10 to 90 minutes and reopens the compact Verse Card.
  • Devotional timer: Repeats from 1 to 120 whole minutes and reopens the compact Verse Card.
  • Separate audible and silent Android notification channels for every reminder type
  • Three independent Settings test buttons
  • Active-weekday, quiet-hour, pause, disabled-notification, and empty-schedule safeguards
  • Optional Alarms & reminders access for precise timing, with allowWhileIdle scheduling and automatic queue refresh

Mobile interface work

  • Rebuilt the desktop-shaped Settings panel as a vertically scrolling, phone-width screen with larger rows and controls.
  • Resized calendar navigation, weekday labels, date cells, completion/favourite indicators, legends, and devotional list cards for narrow displays.
  • Added touch-sized targets, bottom navigation, safe-area insets, mobile typography, and responsive reader spacing.
  • Preserved smooth view transitions while respecting the existing Reduced motion preference.

Privacy and permissions

  • Personal state remains in private Android application storage unless the user explicitly exports a backup.
  • Android cloud backup and cleartext network traffic are disabled.
  • Notification permission is requested only for reminder functionality.
  • Approximate location is optional and used locally only to determine sunrise and sunset for Auto appearance.
  • Alarms & reminders access is optional; without it, Android may delay inexact notifications to conserve battery.
  • The app does not request contacts, microphone, camera, phone, SMS, or account access.

Verification completed

  • Full automated Node test suite passed, including Android notification definitions, channel routing, scheduling limits, weekday handling, and quiet-hour boundaries.
  • Vite production build and Capacitor Android synchronization passed.
  • Signed Gradle release assembly passed.
  • APK zip alignment and signing certificate verification passed.
  • Physical-device testing completed on a Samsung SM-G781W running Android 13.
  • All three notification types were delivered and opened the intended destination.
  • Exact alarm permission and 128 exact future alarm entries were confirmed during device testing.
  • Final app-specific Android log review found zero errors.
  • The published APK and checksum sidecar were downloaded from GitHub after publication and compared byte-for-byte with the local release artifacts.

Known Android behavior

  • Direct GitHub installation requires sideloading permission and does not provide Google Play automatic updates.
  • Android or manufacturer battery-management settings can still affect background delivery; precise timing access reduces broad delivery windows but cannot override every device policy.
  • Android notification-channel settings can override the app’s sound choice after a channel has been customized in system Settings.
  • Uninstalling the app removes private local data. Export a JSON backup before uninstalling if reading history or preferences should be retained.

For step-by-step installation, permission details, backups, build instructions, and troubleshooting, read the Android guide. For support and feedback, join the Work Day with God Discord server.

Work Day with God 1.4.3 — Permanent Windows Taskbar Icon Fix

This Windows patch prevents development Electron sessions from replacing the installed application's taskbar artwork with Electron's default atom icon.

Fixed

  • Assigned the installed Windows application a fresh stable AppUserModelID: com.mcographics.workdaywithgod.windows.
  • Assigned development Electron sessions a separate identity: com.mcographics.workdaywithgod.development.
  • Prevented npm run dev and electron . from contaminating the Windows shell association used by the installed application.
  • Preserved the branded multi-resolution .ico, embedded executable icon, native window icon, relaunch metadata, and standalone packaged shell icon.

What caused the regression

The icon artwork and packaged executable remained correct in 1.4.2. The regression occurred because development Electron and the installed application shared one AppUserModelID. Windows could therefore associate the production taskbar group with the electron.exe atom after a development session. Version 1.4.3 permanently separates those two identities.

Verification

  • All 37 automated tests pass.
  • The production renderer build and Windows NSIS packaging complete successfully.
  • The exact release installer was installed over 1.4.2 and reports version 1.4.3.
  • The installed Start Menu shortcut exposes the new production-only AppUserModelID.
  • The installed executable, packaged .ico, and native window class all contain the Work Day with God artwork.
  • The live Windows taskbar pixels were captured and visually inspected: the running v1.4.3 button displays the Work Day with God icon instead of Electron's atom.

Installation

Download Work-Day-with-God-Setup-1.4.3.exe below and run it. This is a per-user Windows x64 installer and can be installed directly over 1.4.2.

The installer is currently unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may show an Unknown publisher warning. Review the downloaded file and choose More info, then Run anyway, if you trust this release.

@mcographics mcographics released this 03 Aug 01:05

Work Day with God 1.4.2 — Automatic Update Checks

This release adds a device-local update checker so Windows users can discover new Work Day with God releases without leaving the app.

Added

  • Added an Updates section in Settings with Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Never automatic-check preferences.
  • Added a manual Check now action that remains available even when automatic checks are disabled.
  • Added clear status for the installed version, last successful check, next scheduled check, and whether a newer release is available.
  • Added a safe View update on GitHub action when a newer version is found.
  • Added a Windows notification for each newly discovered release; selecting it opens the validated GitHub release page.

Privacy and security

  • Update preferences and check history remain device-local and require no account.
  • The app checks only the fixed public GitHub Releases endpoint for this project.
  • Release data is size-limited and validated in the protected Electron main process before the renderer can display or open it.
  • The existing context isolation, sandboxing, and narrow preload API remain in place.

Scheduling details

  • Weekly checks are the default for existing and new installations.
  • Monthly checks use a 30-day interval.
  • Automatic checks occur only when the selected interval has elapsed; the app re-evaluates periodically while it remains open.
  • A failed automatic check is eligible to retry later and does not overwrite the last successful-check time.

Verification

  • All 37 automated tests pass, including update-version comparison, schedule calculations, release-response validation, persistence migration, and Electron security-boundary checks.
  • The production renderer build and Windows NSIS packaging complete successfully.
  • The installed application and public release downloads are verified before release handoff.

Installation

Download Work-Day-with-God-Setup-1.4.2.exe below and run it. This is a per-user Windows x64 installer and can be installed over 1.4.1a.

The installer is currently unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may show an Unknown publisher warning. Review the downloaded file and choose More info, then Run anyway, if you trust this release.

@mcographics mcographics released this 03 Aug 00:28

Work Day with God 1.4.1a

This Windows hotfix completes the taskbar-branding correction begun in 1.4.1.

Fixed

  • Replaced Electron's remaining default taskbar identity with Work Day with God.
  • Added the complete Windows relaunch command and display-name metadata required by the taskbar shell, and reapplied it after the native window is shown so Windows cannot replace it during taskbar-button creation.
  • Assigned a fresh, stable Work Day with God application identity so Windows does not reuse the taskbar association contaminated by the earlier Electron identity.
  • Added a standalone shell-readable .ico beside the packaged resources and bound the taskbar group directly to it.
  • Preserved the existing multi-resolution Windows icon, including native 20 px and 40 px taskbar sizes for common display scaling levels.

Verification

  • All 31 automated tests pass.
  • The production renderer build completes successfully.
  • The packaged application is smoke-tested against the actual Windows taskbar, including the shell-visible application name and icon.
  • The installer executable and public download are verified by SHA-256 after upload.

Installation

Download Work-Day-with-God-Setup-1.4.1a.exe below and run it. This is a per-user Windows x64 installer and can be installed over 1.4.1.

The installer is currently unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may show an Unknown publisher warning. Review the downloaded file and choose More info, then Run anyway, if you trust this release.

Work Day with God v1.4.1 — Windows taskbar icon fix

@mcographics mcographics released this 02 Aug 23:46

Work Day with God v1.4.1 — Windows taskbar icon fix

Version 1.4.1 is a focused Windows patch that replaces Electron’s default atom icon on the live taskbar button with the Work Day with God application artwork.

This release includes every feature and fix from v1.4.0, including safer reminder scheduling, timer dropdowns, Auto sunrise-to-sunset colour mode, smooth navigation transitions, and isolated development caches.

Fixed

  • Changed the live Windows BrowserWindow from the large source PNG to the generated multi-resolution Windows .ico.
  • Explicitly bound the taskbar window to com.mcographics.workdaywithgod and the packaged executable’s embedded icon resource.
  • Reapplied the branded icon when the frameless application window becomes ready, preventing Electron’s default icon from remaining during startup.
  • Added native 20×20 and 40×40 icon representations for Windows taskbars at 125% and common high-DPI scaling levels.
  • The generated Windows icon now contains 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 48, 64, 128, and 256 px 32-bit representations.
  • Added regression tests that parse the ICO directory and verify the dimensions, bit depth, offsets, and PNG signature of every embedded icon image.
  • Added source-level checks for the taskbar AppUserModelID and packaged executable icon binding.

Packaged verification

  • 31 automated tests passed.
  • The production Vite build completed successfully.
  • A fresh Windows x64 NSIS installer was produced with Electron 43.2.0.
  • Installer product version: 1.4.1.
  • Packaged executable product version: 1.4.1.0.
  • The packaged application launched with an isolated local test profile and created a responsive native window.
  • At the test machine’s 125% Windows scaling, the live native window exposed a 40×40 large/taskbar icon and a 20×20 small icon.
  • The packaged executable exposed the matching 40×40 embedded Work Day with God icon.
  • The extracted native icon was visually inspected and confirmed to contain the Work Day with God artwork rather than Electron’s atom logo.

Windows download

Download Work-Day-with-God-Setup-1.4.1.exe below.

  • Platform: Windows x64
  • Installer type: per-user NSIS installer
  • Installer size: 189,537,213 bytes (about 180.76 MiB)
  • SHA-256: 0AA55CE7DCB10AE616C97C6DE18A551BD9842F893D01BA242DB31DC799F004A4

Before installing, fully quit any running Work Day with God instance from its system-tray menu. If the application was pinned to the taskbar before installing v1.4.1 and Windows continues showing a cached icon, unpin the old shortcut and pin Work Day with God again after launching the updated application.

The installer is currently unsigned. Windows SmartScreen may display Unknown publisher. If you trust this release, choose More info, then Run anyway.

Work Day with God v1.4.0 — Smarter schedules and smoother navigation

Work Day with God v1.4.0 — Smarter schedules and smoother navigation

Version 1.4.0 makes reminder scheduling clearer and safer, adds a sunrise-to-sunset appearance, and replaces abrupt navigation with a clean fade-dissolve throughout the application.

Highlights

Safer reminder scheduling

  • The Verse Card clock is now disabled when no schedule days are selected.
  • Its tooltip explains that a day must be selected under Schedule style in Settings before the timer can start.
  • Clearing the final active day immediately cancels any pending one-off reminder and snooze state.
  • The scheduler will not deliver an old stored timer while the schedule has no active days.
  • The trusted Electron handler also rejects Remind me later requests when notifications are disabled or no schedule day is active.
  • Settings now displays a clear warning whenever every reminder day is unselected.

Dropdown-based timer controls

  • Reminder interval is now a dropdown with every whole-minute option from 1 through 120 minutes.
  • Remind me later is now a dropdown with 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 minutes.
  • Stored values are normalized safely: repeating intervals are rounded and constrained to 1–120 minutes, while Remind me later values are rounded to the nearest 10-minute option and constrained to 10–90 minutes.

Auto colour mode

  • The new Auto · sunrise to sunset option uses light mode during local daylight and dark mode overnight.
  • Sunrise and sunset are calculated locally from the current date and location.
  • If location is unavailable or permission is declined, the app uses an offline 6:00 AM–6:00 PM local-time fallback.
  • Work Day with God does not store the coordinates it receives or add an account, cloud service, or remote database for this feature.
  • Electron permits only geolocation requested by the trusted application window; all other renderer permissions remain denied.

Smooth navigation without corner artifacts

  • Reader-tab changes now fade the clipped content layer while the header and rounded window frame remain continuously rendered.
  • This removes the four-corner graphics flash and the possible blank frame produced by full-window snapshots.
  • Switching between the compact Verse Card and expanded reader now fades out completely, performs the native window resize while hidden, and fades back in cleanly.
  • Reduced motion continues to bypass these effects and navigate immediately.

More reliable development startup

  • Development user data, Chromium session data, and disk caches are isolated from the installed application profile.
  • This prevents npm run dev from colliding with an installed or already-running copy and avoids the Windows Chromium cache access-denied failure seen during development.
  • The existing dedicated strict Vite port 5183 remains unchanged.

Privacy and compatibility

  • Work Day with God remains free, account-free, and offline-first.
  • Existing local settings, favourites, completed readings, streaks, and reading positions remain compatible with this release.
  • Linux packages are not included in v1.4.0; the earlier v1.2.2 Linux testing preview remains available separately.

Verification

  • 29 automated tests passed.
  • The production Vite bundle completed successfully.
  • The packaged application was inspected to confirm the new schedule, timer-dropdown, Auto colour-mode, transition, and development-profile code is present in app.asar.
  • The packaged Windows executable launched from an isolated profile, created a real window, remained responsive, and shut down cleanly after the smoke test.
  • Installer product version: 1.4.0.
  • Unpacked executable product version: 1.4.0.0.

Windows download

Download Work-Day-with-God-Setup-1.4.0.exe below.

Work Day with God v1.3.0 — Fixed devotionals Issue and Discord support added.

Choose a tag to compare

@mcographics mcographics released this 02 Aug 08:52

What’s new in Work Day with God 1.3.0

This release refreshes the complete devotional experience with more consistently Christ-centred, encouraging daily content and moves official application support to Discord.

Christ-centred devotional refresh

  • Rebuilt all 366 daily devotionals around an explicitly Christ-centred, encouraging pastoral content policy.
  • Refined daily Scripture anchors so roughly three quarters come from the New Testament.
  • Limited Old Testament Verse Card anchors to hope-filled pastoral passages appropriate for daily encouragement.
  • Updated reflections, practical questions, closing thoughts, and prayers so every devotional explicitly points readers to Jesus or Christ.

Safer and more consistent daily Scripture

  • Prevented isolated verses focused on judgment, violence, condemnation, distress, or other context-dependent subjects from appearing as stand-alone daily encouragement.
  • Added automated content-policy tests to stop unsuitable Verse Card anchors or generic reflections from returning in future catalogue rebuilds.
  • Preserved full offline access to all devotionals, bundled Bible translations, reading history, favourites, reminders, and scenic artwork.

Discord support

  • Replaced the support email displayed in Settings with the official Work Day with God Discord support server.
  • The Discord community is available for application support, feedback, and bug reports: https://discord.gg/2UvdpY4JSW

Development reliability

  • Assigned Work Day with God a dedicated strict development port so another local Vite application cannot accidentally appear inside the Verse Card window.
  • Added a regression test covering the dedicated development-server configuration.

Windows installation

  1. Download Work-Day-with-God-Setup-1.3.0.exe below.
  2. Run the installer and select the installation location if desired.
  3. Work Day with God installs for the current Windows user and can create Start Menu and desktop shortcuts.

Work Day with God remains completely free, works offline, requires no account or subscription, and stores settings and reading activity locally on the device.
