Katanas

Katanas are fast precision weapons built around timing. Their main mechanic is Sheath Strike: if the katana has not landed a hit for 3 seconds, the next hit becomes a primed strike.

The old screenshot crafting examples have been removed because katana crafting now uses hilt, guard, and blade components instead of direct sword-style recipes.

Katana List

Katana Main-hand attack damage modifier Main-hand attack speed modifier Durability Special tier effect
Iron Katana +3 -2.0 450 None beyond Sheath Strike.
Golden Katana +2 -1.6 128 Faster handling, lower durability.
Diamond Katana +4 -1.8 1561 25% chance to inflict Weakness I for 2 seconds on hit.
Netherite Katana +5 -1.7 2031 Fire resistant; 33% chance to inflict Weakness I for 3 seconds on hit.

Sheath Strike

After 3 seconds without landing a hit, the next katana hit becomes Sheath Strike.

Effects:

  • Adds burst damage on the primed hit.
  • Dashes the attacker forward toward the target.
  • Creates sweep/trail particles.
  • Shows a blue readiness bar while recharging.
  • Gives the attacker a short 8 tick dash protection window:
    • Projectiles are blocked completely.
    • Direct melee damage is reduced by half.
    • Knockback is ignored.

Shield Pressure

Primed Sheath Strike attacks bypass shields through a custom damage type.

When the target is blocking with a shield:

  • The hit can connect through the block.
  • A player target's shield is disabled for 5 seconds, matching the vanilla axe-style disable duration.

Air Combo Behavior

Katanas have extra synergy with launched or airborne targets.

When Sheath Strike hits a target that is already airborne:

  • The target is popped upward.
  • Player targets receive a smaller vertical boost than non-player targets.
  • The attacker still dashes, but with reduced forward distance so the target remains easier to track.

This pairs especially well with the Wind Staff's target launch.

Enchanting

Katanas are tagged as melee, sharp, weapon, fire aspect, durability, and vanishing enchantable items.

This means they are intended to work with normal weapon enchantments such as Sharpness, Looting, Fire Aspect, Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing where the current Minecraft enchantment rules allow them.
