MAIL_URL warning

I don't think this is a major issue, but I am getting the error below in my server output:

W20141219-21:50:39.649(-5)? (STDERR) [AccountsTemplates] WARNING: showForgotPasswordLink set to true, but MAIL_URL is not configured!

MAIL_URL is set. I confirmed this with the new meteor shell :)

I am wondering if it has to do with the order Meteor loads the files in. My AT config is in lib/at_config.js and my MAIL_URL is setup in server/smtp.js

I think email is working just fine though. I get the verify email email.

Lets have a look at this line which is were the warning is coming from.

Could you please confirm also that from the brand new shell you can see process.env.MAIL_URL correctly set and that Package["email"] returns a truly value?

ok, so if you have process.env.MAIL_URL correctly set I guess it might be some problem with the loading order as you're also supposing.

The initialization of AT is done inside a Meteor.startup( ... ) so the only reason should be that you're also setting MAIL_URL ad startup inside your server/smtp.js file.
Is this true?

Shrop and I are working on the same project, so I can answer on his behalf and say yes, that is true, process.env.MAIL_URL is being set inside of server/smtp.js. Should we be setting it somewhere else?

Usually you have it as an environment variable on the production machine.

If you use mup for the deploy you can put your smtp address in the setting file. See this example.

..differently I guess what you're doing is the way to go as also suggested in the official docs

Still, if you set it in top level code outside Meteor.startup it is weird you get the warning since when AT initializes (at startup) your setting should be already in place!

I've moved it to our env.sh file and can echo $MAIL_URL from the command line, but if I try to send myself an email verification email, I get this in the server console:

(Mail not sent; to enable sending, set the MAIL_URL environment variable.)

…along with a dump of the email that should have been sent to me. Any thoughts?

I take it back… It was an issue with our randomized password not being URI encoded. Once I addressed that, it ended up working. Thanks!

Might it be a loading order?
Just guessing: auto run of the meteor application at start- up and only later execution of your env.sh?

What if you put a

console.log (process.env.MAIL_URL)

within your server code?

I have a couple of production apps deployed with mup and I never noticed the warning, but I'll try to double check it!

I'm having exactly the same issue. Most probably lib/config/at.js is processed before server/config/smtp.js

@splendido @deetergp and I are sourcing env.sh and then running meteor. That puts things in the right order and works for us. May still be good find a fix when doing smtp config in the JS code. Thanks!

If you think having this warning creates more problems than benefits, we might also think to get rid of it...
What's your view?
