v1.24.0 — Decision Log, Principles, Axioms & Local Git Safety Net
Decisions, Principles & Axioms
A new knowledge layer in 03-Resources/, built for how AI agents actually reason — not just search:
Decisions/— log hard-to-reverse choices with a mandatory Alternatives Rejected section. This is the single most valuable part: it stops an agent from re-proposing an idea you already considered and rejected months ago.Principles/— standing behavioral rules distilled from repeated decisions ('we always do X', not just 'we chose X on this date').Axioms.md— the small set of foundational beliefs everything else derives from. Ships empty on purpose — these should be yours, not generic filler.
All three link into 03-Resources/README.md and reference each other (derived_from, evidenced_by frontmatter fields) so an agent can traverse why a rule exists, not just that it exists.
Local Git Safety Net
New _System/Scripts/session_git_snapshot.py:
- Auto-commits a snapshot of the vault at session end — local history only, never pushes or fetches
- Secret-scanning gate: refuses to commit if it detects anything that looks like an API key (OpenAI/Anthropic/GitHub/AWS/Slack patterns), a generic
password=/token=, or a private key block — logs only the file path (never the content) tocron-errors.log - Auto-initializes a local repo if none exists; never touches an existing repo's remote config
- Logs every run to
04-Archives/Cron/git-snapshot.log
Wire it in as a Hermes hook on on_session_end for a cheap undo button against bad multi-file agent edits.

v1.23.1 — Fix: cron sessions were still leaking into Daily/
🐛 Fix
Closes #10.
v1.23.0 ("separate cron metadata from session content") only moved the cron lock file and logs into 04-Archives/Cron/. The cron-run session notes themselves (cron_<jobid>_<timestamp>-<slug>.md) kept landing in 04-Archives/Daily/, mixed in with real chat sessions — one real vault had 749 of these files inflating Dataview queries and vault_audit.py's orphan count.
What changed
hermes_session_sync.pynow routes cron-run session notes to04-Archives/Cron/sessions/YYYY/MM/DD/instead ofDaily/, going forward- Wrapped
os.path.getmtime()in a new_safe_getmtime()helper to tolerate aFileNotFoundErrorrace condition on OneDrive-synced vaults (reported in the issue) vault_audit.pyno longer counts dated session notes as orphaned files — nothing is expected to wikilink into an individual session note- New
migrate_cron_sessions.py— one-off migration for anyone upgrading from v1.23.0: moves existingcron_*.mdfiles out ofDaily/intoCron/sessions/and updatesmanifest.jsonlpaths. Safe to re-run.
Upgrading from v1.23.0?
python _System/Scripts/migrate_cron_sessions.py --vault "<vault-path>" --verbose
New installs on v1.23.1+ never need this — it's handled automatically going forward.
Verified against a real vault
749 affected cron files found and migrated, 0 left in Daily/ afterward, manifest.jsonl paths updated for all of them, real chat sessions (197 of them) untouched.

v1.23.0 — Cron Separation, Install Verification & Feature Packs
🆕 What's New
Separated cron metadata from session content
Cron lock files and run logs no longer mix with your daily session notes. Everything operational now lives in 04-Archives/Cron/:
cron-runs.log— timestamped history of every hourly archive run (status, duration, sessions processed, tokens)cron-errors.log— full tracebacks when a cron run fails- Lock file moved out of
Daily/so your knowledge timeline stays clean
Post-install verification
install.sh/install.ps1 now run verify_install automatically after setup, checking:
- Vault folder structure (01-Projects → 04-Archives)
- Required Obsidian plugins (dataview, kanban, obsidian-local-rest-api)
- MCP server status
- Memory promotion pipeline
- User-Profile.md integrity
Opt-in feature packs
New _System/Scripts/features/ directory lets you grow into the template instead of being overwhelmed on day one:
- beginner/ — core archiving + memory promotion (default)
- analyst/ — semantic search, session tagging, performance dashboards
- poweruser/ — skill forecasting, vault audit, template drift checker
- experimental/ — bleeding-edge integrations
Template drift checker
New template_drift.py compares your vault against the latest template release via SHA256 hashing, classifying every file as safe-to-update, customized (preserve), outdated, or missing — so template upgrades never clobber your personal work.
Plugin cleanup
Removed smart-connections and brain-atlas from the default community plugin set.
Also included
generate_changelog.pyfix for breaking-change (!) commit markers and the 'Other Changes' changelog section, plus CI lint coverage- README.md improvements: 60-second quickstart, outcomes table, trust/verification checklist (from the previous release)
promote_memory.py --reviewinteractive mode (from the previous release)
