TheoryCashing is a macro-enabled Excel workbook for forecasting personal or household cash flow.
TheoryCashing was formerly known as CashCast. The product name has changed, but the forecasting model and its compatibility-sensitive worksheet, table, and macro identifiers remain intact.
Instead of asking only:
"On average, do I make more than I spend?"
TheoryCashing also asks:
"When the bill is due, will the money actually be in the account?"
TheoryCashing builds a day-by-day cash-flow forecast from your income schedule, recurring obligations, and a known bank balance. It shows when money is expected to arrive, when it is expected to leave, and how the projected balance changes along the way.

TheoryCashing requires Microsoft Excel with VBA macro support.
Important
TheoryCashing contains VBA macros. Excel or Windows may block macros in files downloaded from the Internet. Only enable macros after confirming that you trust the source of the workbook.
- Open
TheoryCashing.xlsmin Microsoft Excel. - Enable macros if you trust the downloaded workbook.
- Configure recurring income on Income Setup.
- Configure recurring expenses on Obligations.
- Select Create Annual Budget.
- Enter the requested starting balance and forecast information.
- Review the generated yearly forecast.
Do not save TheoryCashing as .xlsx; doing so removes the VBA project required for forecast generation.
TheoryCashing generates calendar-year worksheets such as 2026, 2027, and 2028.
Each forecast applies scheduled income and obligations to actual calendar dates and calculates the resulting projected balance over time.
Generated TheoryCashing annual forecast using synthetic data.
The most useful number is not necessarily the annual surplus. It is often the lowest projected balance between now and the next paycheck.
TheoryCashing intentionally distinguishes between planning averages and calendar forecasts.
Normalized monthly and annual figures help answer:
"Does my budget work overall?"
Generated forecasts help answer:
"Will the money be there when I need it?"
Those figures may legitimately differ because forecasts use actual calendar occurrences. For example, a weekly expense can occur five times in some months even though its normalized monthly amount is based on an average.
