vivePDF 0.4.0 runs on the Mac, opens Word, Excel and PowerPoint files straight from Open With, and lets you drag tabs out into their own windows. Every file still stays on your machine.

Windows 10/11 (64-bit): download vivePDF_0.4.0_x64-setup.exe below and run it, or let vivePDF update itself. The installer carries LibreOffice, so Office conversions work right after setup without a download. The installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" once: click More info -> Run anyway.

macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple silicon): download vivePDF_0.4.0_aarch64.dmg below, open it and drag vivePDF to Applications, or let vivePDF 0.3.0 update itself. The app is not notarised by Apple, so Gatekeeper blocks the first start: open System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to the vivePDF message, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/vivePDF.app.

Highlights:

  • Word, Excel and PowerPoint files open straight in vivePDF as PDFs, also from Open With in Finder and Explorer; when LibreOffice is missing, vivePDF offers to set it up and opens the file once it is ready
  • Tabs work like a browser's: drag a tab or a whole tab group out to open it in its own window where you drop it, or onto another vivePDF window to move it there
  • vivePDF runs on the Mac: full screen keeps the window buttons beside the logo, Command shortcuts and the menu bar work the macOS way, trackpad pinch zooms smoothly, and updates arrive inside the app
  • The black and white presentation boards have a toolbar with pen, highlighter, shapes and eraser, pick several drawings at once and undo up to 100 steps
  • Smoother and lighter: scrolling a PDF no longer stutters, typing stays quick in long Studio documents, and page previews no longer wait for each other

Known issue: in Edit, after inserting an item (for example a question) and then a second one (for example its answer key), the first item's floating toolbar stays on screen, and a click on that toolbar does not place the second item. Click on a free spot of the page instead.

Linux builds will follow. Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md.
