  • A sender that disconnects is no longer reported as a storage failure. When a sending device dropped the connection partway through, the receiver answered as if the disk had failed (507). It now logs the disconnect and moves on, in both the Python receiver (#39) and omdrop-core (#95).
  • Uploads from older iOS are accepted. Some older iPhones send their upload as application/x-cpio; the receiver now accepts it (#40).
  • Intel MacBooks: the README lists omdrop-bcm4360 as their radio backend (#91).
  • omdrop-core 0.1.6, with the disconnect fix.
  • Driver unchanged: omdrop install-driver builds omdrop-awdl 0.10.0.

To upgrade:

omarchy plugin update netmojo.omdrop --yes
omarchy-restart-shell
omdrop doctor

If omdrop doctor suggests omdrop install-core, run it: that installs omdrop-core, or updates an omdrop-core older than the one this plugin carries.

  • A package for Omarchy is coming. This release carries the recipe for an omdrop package, which installs the plugin and omdrop-core together and updates both with the rest of the system. It goes to Omarchy's package repository next; until it's there, install and update Omdrop as before. The README's "From the omdrop package" section has the steps for when it arrives (#85).
  • omdrop-core runs only with a radio backend that ships its hooks. The plugin hands commands to omdrop-core only when the radio backend provides omdrop-core's hooks, as omdrop-awdl does from 0.10.0. With other backends, including omdrop-owl today, the bash and Python programs run. On a Mac with an older driver, omdrop doctor says to update it with omdrop install-driver. OMDROP_IMPLEMENTATION=rust without hooks is an error (#85).
  • omdrop setup adds a packaged Omdrop to the bar. Run from the package, setup links the plugin into ~/.config/omarchy/plugins and adds its widget. If Omdrop is already installed with omarchy plugin add, it asks before replacing that copy, and moves it aside rather than deleting it (#85).
  • omdrop-core 0.1.5, with the above.
  • Driver unchanged: omdrop install-driver builds omdrop-awdl 0.10.0.

To upgrade:

omarchy plugin update netmojo.omdrop --yes
omarchy-restart-shell
omdrop install-core # if your radio backend supports omdrop-core
omdrop install-driver # on a Mac, rebuild the driver if needed

  • iPhone photos get a thumbnail in their notification. A HEIC, HEIF or AVIF arrival is decoded into a small JPEG preview, kept in $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/omdrop/previews. Only the newest 10 are kept, and each decode has 10 seconds. If decoding fails, the notification still appears, without an image (#57, @1emes; core: #83).
  • Clicking a file with no app shows it in Files. Clicking a notification still opens the file with its default app. When no app is registered for the type, such as .heic on a stock Omarchy, the file is shown in Files (nautilus --select) instead of opening in the browser (#57, @1emes; core: #83).
  • A notification is never lost when Omdrop turns off. Each arrival is announced from its own short-lived systemd unit, so a one-file window closing, or omdrop off, can't cut short a notification still decoding its preview (#57).
  • omdrop-core 0.1.4, with the above. The plugin hands commands only to omdrop-core 0.1.4 or newer; with an older one, omdrop doctor says to update it with omdrop install-core.
  • Upgrade instructions use omarchy plugin update netmojo.omdrop --yes, which skips the pager that shows the whole diff (#82).
  • Driver unchanged: omdrop install-driver builds omdrop-awdl 0.10.0.

To upgrade:

omarchy plugin update netmojo.omdrop --yes
omarchy-restart-shell
omdrop install-core # if your radio backend supports omdrop-core
omdrop install-driver # on a Mac, rebuild the driver if needed

  • omdrop-core by default, wherever the radio backend supports it. Omdrop runs as omdrop-core, its Rust version, with a supported radio backend, and as its bash and Python programs with others. Today omdrop-core supports omdrop-awdl; omdrop-owl follows once it ships core's hooks (#73). With a supported backend, omdrop setup and omdrop doctor offer omdrop-core, and list it under "To do:", because the Python version is going away. omdrop install-core installs it: from your package repositories when they carry this version, and otherwise built from the plugin's core/. Once it is installed, the plugin hands every command to it, including the panel's (#74, #76).
  • Only a core this release can use gets commands. omdrop-core's omdrop now sits at /usr/lib/omdrop-core/omdrop, off PATH, so the plugin's omdrop is the one command and decides whether core runs. An omdrop-core older than 0.1.3 gets none: the bash and Python programs run instead, and omdrop doctor says how to update it. OMDROP_IMPLEMENTATION=python keeps the bash and Python programs; OMDROP_IMPLEMENTATION=rust refuses to run without a usable core (#79). The command moves to /usr/bin/omdrop once the Python version is superseded (#73, step 8).
  • omdrop-core drives omdrop-awdl's hooks, and keeps the driver current. omdrop-awdl 0.10.0 installs hooks in /usr/lib/omdrop/radio/, which core drives directly. omdrop doctor reports a driver older than the release needs, and omdrop install-driver updates it (#78).
  • Driver 0.10.0. omdrop install-driver builds omdrop-awdl 0.10.0.
  • Receiver readiness on Debian and Ubuntu. The readiness checks work there (#53, @wuharu999), compare versions without vercmp, and check the receiver's libraries with the interpreter the receiver runs (#77).
  • Tests: the test_send name-lookup tests no longer race bash's whole-second clock (#76).

To upgrade:

omarchy plugin update netmojo.omdrop --yes # skips the pager that shows the whole diff
omarchy-restart-shell
omdrop install-core # if your radio backend supports omdrop-core
omdrop install-driver # on a Mac, rebuild the driver if needed

  • iPhones show "Sent" when a transfer finishes. After a completed upload, the receiver kept the connection open, so the iPhone stayed on "Sending" until the receiver's 30-second idle limit closed it. The file had already been saved. The receiver now answers a completed upload with Connection: close and closes the connection straight away. Discover and Ask answers are unchanged (#51, #69, @shaecodes-wilde).
  • Contacts Only works with OpenSSL 3.0. On Debian 12 and Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, the receiver couldn't read the Apple account from a sender's verified certificate, because OpenSSL 3.0 formats the certificate subject differently. Every sender was refused, including known contacts. The account is now read the same way on every OpenSSL version (#67, @MrSco).
  • Driver unchanged. omdrop install-driver still builds omdrop-awdl 0.9.3.

  • Received iPhone photos are on the clipboard as images again. Since 0.16.0 photos arrive in their original HEIC format, and Omdrop put them on the clipboard as a file path. A received .heic, .heif or .avif is now decoded once to a JPEG, which goes on the clipboard as image/jpeg. The decode has a 10-second limit, the temporary JPEG is removed afterwards, and the received file is never changed. Without heif-convert (from libheif), or if the decode fails, Omdrop copies the path as before (#62, #63).
  • Python 3.10. Omdrop falls back to the tomli package where Python's built-in tomllib is missing, so it runs with Ubuntu 22.04's Python. There, install python3-tomli (#60, @FerdinaKusumah; README in #64).
  • Driver 0.9.3. omdrop install-driver builds omdrop-awdl 0.9.3. Sends from Omdrop are unchanged.

  • Uploads that never send their closing chunk are stored. An iPhone can deliver a whole upload and then never send the chunked encoding's final 0 chunk, so the transfer hung and ended in a 408. The receiver now checks whether the archive is complete, stores it, and answers (#41, @nicolasfalesy). It then reads what the sender still has in flight before closing, so a Mac's sharingd records the transfer as finished rather than reset (#47, @bxshi).
  • Receiving restarts right after a transfer. Starting the receiver again soon after a completed transfer could fail because the port was still held; it now reuses the address. A receiver that is already running still keeps the port to itself (#50, @Jakeelamb).
  • Driver 0.9.2. omdrop install-driver builds omdrop-awdl 0.9.2, in which turning Omdrop off and straight back on works. Run it to update an older driver.
  • New home. The repository moved to netmojo-systems/omdrop-plugin, and install-driver clones the driver from netmojo-systems (#59). Old links redirect; the plugin ID netmojo.omdrop is unchanged.
  • Contributing. CONTRIBUTING.md says what a pull request needs: setup, hardware evidence and tests (#46).

  • The agent skill is opt-in. omdrop setup and omdrop on no longer link the skill that tells AI agents how to use omdrop. Run omdrop skill install to add it; omdrop setup says so when an agent is set up. A skill you remove with omdrop skill remove stays removed. Existing links are left as they are. Raised in the marketplace review (#45).

  • PCs with other Wi-Fi cards. A radio backend other than omdrop-awdl can now describe itself to Omdrop, so it runs on PCs through omdrop-owl as well as on Apple Silicon Macs. The probe is time-limited, every backend must meet a minimum contract version, and messages name the backend's own package. Nothing changes on a Mac. See docs/radio-backend.md. Thanks @t4t5 (#25).
  • Photos arrive as the original HEIC. The receiver now advertises the media capabilities a MacBook Pro does, so a photo shared from Photos arrives as the original HEIC, edits applied, instead of a converted JPEG. A ProRes video arrives unconverted. Discover and Ask answers also carry IsAirDropable. Thanks @aleckloiselle (#20).
  • Longer wait for an Upload. After you accept a file, the receiver waits up to 60 seconds for the sender to start uploading. Every other read keeps its 30-second limit (#33).
  • Qt 6.12. The panel, icon and radar draw in the theme's colours on Qt 6.12, where a new QtQuick Color type hid the shell palette. Older Qt versions are unaffected (#42).
  • AirDrop for Omarchy, on Macs and PCs. The marketplace name is now "Omdrop - AirDrop for Omarchy". The README, poster, description and agent skill describe both radio backends (#43).

  • Driver 0.9.1. omdrop install-driver now builds omdrop-awdl 0.9.1, which tightens the root helper's input checks, and rebuilds any older installed driver (#38).
