Pads — the cart wall

A new Pads tab next to DJ: a grid of labelled, coloured pads that play a
sound the instant you press one, built to be driven with a finger on a touch
screen.

  • Fill a pad by dragging a track onto it from the music, jingles, adverts
    or programs tables — or turn on Edit pads (or right-click) and pick one
    from the database with a searchable browser, or any file on disk
  • Label and colour each pad so the grid reads at a glance
  • Press to play, press again to stop — or set a pad to restart from the top
    instead, which is what a stab or a stinger wants
  • Loop until stopped keeps a bed running under a live link
  • Pads are polyphonic: a stinger over a bed is fine. Stop all cuts everything
  • Eight banks, and a pad playing on one bank keeps playing while you work
    on another
  • Fully keyboard-operable: arrows move around the grid, Enter plays, Esc stops,
    F2 edits. Everything is saved as you go, and the tab can be hidden in Options

Portuguese and French are complete

1369 of 1369 strings in both languages — the first time either has been at
100%. Beyond the new tab this fills in the tutorial for blind operators, the
microphone permission dialogs, the Torrents privacy warning and the 432 Hz
conversion notes, plus most of the French player and options text. Eight
misspellings in the existing French are fixed too.

Menu icons

Every entry in every top menu now has an icon. The Playback menu reuses the
same icons as the transport buttons, and View, Database, Options and Help no
longer have bare items.

Windows: fewer "unknown publisher" warnings

  • XFB.exe and the installer now carry version metadata — publisher, product
    name, description and version, where Windows previously saw blank fields
  • Tor is no longer bundled. It shipped an unsigned tor.exe plus the obfs4
    and conjure pluggable transports to everyone, for a feature that is off by
    default — and that is exactly the payload Defender and Smart App Control
    flag. XFB now installs Tor on first use of the Torrents feature, with your
    consent, the same way it handles every other optional tool. The installers
    are ~22 MB smaller as a result.

Note that the Windows builds are still unsigned, so Smart App Control may
continue to block the installer until code signing is in place.
