XFB records what goes on air, answers to the network when you switch it on,
and comes with a control page so a phone can drive the station.

Recording what goes on air

The programme can be recorded as it airs — the mix, what goes on air, or the
source coming into the desk — as MP3, Ogg or Opus. There are keys to start and
stop it, so a link can be captured without reaching for the mouse, and the
stream has keys of its own.

Control over the network

XFB answers to the network once that is switched on, and not before. It has its
own port and its own keys, nothing shared with the phone sync: a key here can
take the station off air, so it is a separate switch with a separate list.
Keys are shown once and kept only as a digest, and a key can be read-only.

A control page that comes with it

The API alone is for programs, so XFB serves a page of its own at the same
address. Sign in on a phone or a laptop with the same key a script would use,
and the station is there — what is on air with its cover and a playhead to
drag, the transport, the volume, Auto Mode, the recording, the stream, the
running order, and a library search.

It is one document that fetches nothing from the internet, not a font and not a
framework, so it works in a studio with no internet at all. A read-only key
gets the whole page with every control disabled and a line saying why.

Two more ways to install on Linux

XFB now installs as a flatpak or runs as a single AppImage file, for a
distribution XFB has no package for or a machine without root. The flatpak
comes from a repository of its own, so every release after this one arrives
through flatpak update:

flatpak install https://netpack.github.io/XFB/flatpak/xfb.flatpakref

Fixes

The first flatpak would not start on a Wayland desk: Qt asked for X11 after the
sandbox had already taken it away, and the app aborted before it drew anything.
It now asks for Wayland first and falls back to X11, and it says in its log
which one it got.

XFB also says so plainly when it is started with no display server at all,
instead of leaving Qt to suggest reinstalling.

Windows

There is no Windows installer for 4.01. Windows users should stay on
4.0
— it is the current
release for that platform, and the next one will carry Windows again.

If XFB on Windows offers you this update, it will send you to this page; there
is nothing here to install yet, and nothing is wrong with your copy.
