Full Changelog: v14.4.1...v15.0.0

This discussion was created from the release v15.0.0 Beta.

[vawaver]

Describe the bug

After upgrading my existing Nextcloud AIO installation to 15.0.0 Beta, the Nextcloud container fails to start.

All other core AIO service containers appear to have started successfully, including PostgreSQL, Redis, Apache, Talk, Collabora and the other services.

However, nextcloud-aio-nextcloud remains in a continuous restart loop, making the Nextcloud instance unavailable.

### Steps to reproduce

1. Run an existing Nextcloud AIO installation using the Beta channel.
2. Upgrade to Nextcloud AIO 15.0.0 Beta.
3. Start the updated containers.
4. Observe that nextcloud-aio-nextcloud fails to start and continuously restarts.

Expected behavior

The Nextcloud container should complete the upgrade process and start normally, allowing the instance to become available again.

Actual behavior

The Nextcloud container repeatedly restarts with the following message:

The last Nextcloud update failed.
Please restore from a backup and try again.
If you do not have a backup, you can delete the update.failed file in the data directory
to allow the container to start again.

The logs also confirm that connections to PostgreSQL and Redis succeed:

Connection to nextcloud-aio-database (172.20.0.8) 5432 port [tcp/postgresql] succeeded!
Connection to nextcloud-aio-redis (172.20.0.9) 6379 port [tcp/redis] succeeded!

Environment

• Nextcloud AIO: 15.0.0 Beta
• Deployment: Docker
• Host OS: Ubuntu 24.04 VM
• Affected container: nextcloud-aio-nextcloud
• Container image: ghcr.io/nextcloud-releases/aio-nextcloud:beta
• Date of occurrence: October 22, 2026

Questions for the maintainers

Could you please help investigate what caused the update to fail?

I would prefer to recover the existing installation rather than restore the entire instance from a backup, if that is safely possible.

I have attached the Nextcloud container logs and a Portainer screenshot showing the container states.

Any guidance on identifying the root cause and safely restoring the instance would be appreciated.

Had the same issue. After restoring a backup AIO is up again.

EDIT: today the same problem as yesterday. Back to restoring I guess.
