v1.5.5: Copy Name and French
New: Copy Name
Copy Name copies the current folder's name, like my-project, or the names of the selected items, one per line. File names keep their extensions. It's off by default, so turn it on in Finder Menu's settings. (#40, thanks @ZeroP27 for the suggestion in #37)
New: French
🇫🇷 The right-click menu, dialogs and settings window are now translated into French. (#36, thanks @GullmeVrn)
Fixed
In the settings window, "No templates yet." now lines up with the other labels instead of sitting against the right edge. (#41)
Upgrade
brew update && brew upgrade finder-menu
finder-menu enableFrom source: git pull && ./install.sh.
v1.5.4: Persian
New: Persian
🇮🇷 The right-click menu, dialogs and settings window are now translated into Persian. (#33, thanks @aliafshany)
macOS itself isn't available in Persian, so Finder Menu switches to Persian when Persian is first in your preferred languages, under System Settings → General → Language & Region.
Upgrade
brew update && brew upgrade finder-menu
finder-menu enableFrom source: git pull && ./install.sh.
v1.5.3: About Finder Menu
New: About Finder Menu
About Finder Menu in the app menu shows the version you have, and the settings window now links to this repository under the version, so the docs, issues and source are one click away. (#30, thanks @gerardp for the suggestion)
Cloud folders
Finder Menu's items don't appear in OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or iCloud Drive folders. That's a macOS limitation: these apps sync through Apple's File Provider, and Finder doesn't show other apps' extension menus in their folders. The README's Troubleshooting section explains it, and ideas for a way around it are welcome in #29.
Upgrade
brew update && brew upgrade finder-menu
finder-menu enableFrom source: git pull && ./install.sh.
v1.5.2: Simplified Chinese
New: Simplified Chinese
🇨🇳 The right-click menu, dialogs and settings window are now translated into Simplified Chinese. (#26, thanks @yunyv)
The version number in the settings window is now translated too, in every language. It was the one part left in English.
Upgrade
brew update && brew upgrade finder-menu
finder-menu enableFrom source: git pull && ./install.sh.
v1.5.1: Spanish and Show icons
New: Spanish
🇪🇸 The right-click menu, dialogs and settings window are now translated into Spanish. (#17, thanks @LuigimonSoft)
Icons that match Finder
On macOS 13 to 15, Finder's own right-click items have no icons, so Finder Menu's items now go without them too. On macOS 26 and later they keep their icons, like Finder's. The new Show icons checkbox in settings turns them on or off either way, and the app icons in Open Folder With stay, as in Finder's own Open With. (#19, thanks @whiplashoo for the suggestion)
For contributors
scripts/test.sh runs a set of tests, including one that checks a translation has every key, every %@ and its language code. CI runs them and a full build on every pull request. (#21)

v1.5.0: VSCodium
v1.4.0: New File templates and external drives
New: New File templates
Tick Save as template in the New File dialog, and New File becomes a submenu: pick a saved name to create that file in one click. If the name is taken, you get the next free one, the way Finder does (notes.md → notes 2.md). Manage Templates… at the bottom of the submenu opens the settings window, where you can remove them. (#12, thanks @artemartemenko)
New: external drives and network shares
Finder Menu's items now show up on SMB shares, USB and exFAT drives, disk images and FUSE mounts, not just your Mac's own disk. Some macOS versions then show Finder Menu's icon next to those drives in Finder's sidebar. If that bothers you, untick Also on external and network drives in settings. (#2, thanks @mbarszcz-pcb for reporting it and @skwiz0d for confirming it on USB and exFAT drives)
New: Ukrainian
🇺🇦 The right-click menu, dialogs and settings window are now translated into Ukrainian. (#12, thanks @artemartemenko)
Fixes
- Paste works in the New File dialog. ⌘V, ⌘C, ⌘X, ⌘A and ⌘Z did nothing in the file name field.
- You can type the name right away. The New File dialog now takes keyboard focus when it opens, instead of leaving your typing in Finder until you click it.

v1.3.0: German, Russian and Italian
New: German, Russian and Italian
Finder Menu now follows your Mac's language. The right-click menu, the New File and Open With dialogs, and the settings window are translated into:
- 🇩🇪 German (#10, thanks @9trzj5nztr-design)
- 🇷🇺 Russian
- 🇮🇹 Italian
Every other language stays in English. Want Finder Menu in yours? See Languages: it's one text file to translate.
Fixes
finder-menu enableno longer deletes the installed app when you point it at the installed app itself, or at a path ending in/, which Tab completion adds. (#4, thanks @MikeeI)- No more false "didn't restart cleanly" warning after installing. Open and Save dialogs in other apps run their own copy of the Finder extension, and the check counted those too. It now counts only Finder's.
Upgrade
brew update && brew upgrade finder-menu
finder-menu enableFrom source: git pull && ./install.sh.
v1.2.1
Fixes
- Menu items no longer show up twice, or go missing, after installing or upgrading. Right after
finder-menu enable, Finder could start the extension twice or not at all. It now restarts into exactly one copy. - New File never overwrites a file, even one another app creates at the same instant. (#3, thanks @MikeeI)
- Go to Parent Folder no longer confuses folders whose names differ only in capitalization, on case-sensitive drives. (#6, thanks @MikeeI)
Upgrade
brew update && brew upgrade finder-menu
finder-menu enableFrom source: git pull && ./install.sh.
v1.2.0: settings window
New: settings window
Open Finder Menu from Spotlight or your Applications folder, or run finder-menu settings, to:
- choose which items appear in the right-click menu
- pick the terminal for Open Terminal Here: Automatic, any terminal you have installed, or any other app
Changes apply the next time you right-click.
To make this work, the Finder extension now has read-only access to Finder Menu's own settings, so it knows which items to skip. It still can't read your files.
